        • Mainly a super smooth Xcloud experience, but helps for everything else too.

    • Superloop, Exetel and Mate have 100/40 Mbps plans.

Superloop and Exetel are $80pm for 6 months and Mate is $90pm but unlimited duration.

      • Cheers for the headsup on this. Am on Superloop 100/40 grandfathered plan for $90 a month, but thinking might be worth the risk of trying Exetel out for a cheeky $10 saving. Though a couple months for $2 at Telstra at 100/20 is a little tempting to the little OzBargainer in me

        • +2

I'm also with Superloop now. My plan for now is 2 months of 250/25 with Telstra, 1 month of free 1000/50 with ABB then go with Exetel or back to Superloop.

          • @lorikeet: Yeh I think I might start doing similar. I can only get 100/40mbps speeds with FTTN, but I've hit the node lottery and those speeds are consistent. Haven't noticed any drops at peak times with SL when everything is going well then it's beautiful (duh) as soon as I need SL support though they have been extremely poor. Probably the same across the board these days.

How I dream of 250 or more speeds though.

          • +1

@lorikeet: That's my plan too but I read the ABB free month is only valid until the end of June from here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12060121/redir

Might try to sign up then and schedule it in July or something.

  • +1

FYI - if you are attempting to set a future date for activation, the earliest I could get was 10/5.

    • +2

Had no problem selecting later date like 16th

      • For sure, my free NBN through another provider just runs out earlier than the 10th (so had to select an 'immediate' connection).

  • No good for nbn FW

  • Am I a new customer if I used this offer last time but have been away from Telstra for two months?

    • Yes

    • +2

Yes, I literally cancelled l my Telstra nbn last night and signed up this morning

  • We signed up for this deal via online chat last time it was offered - and asked for a specific start date that was almost a month later (we had pre-paid with Superloop).
They delivered the 'modem' (aka router) quickly.
Superloop stopped the previous service a few mins after midnight, we plugged in the pre-configured 'modem' and were using $1/m Telstra a few mins later.
    Very easy and painless.

Chat sign-up originally offered a slightly different T&C in regard to the cost of the 'modem' (reducing cost of $10/m rather than a flat return fee) which would have been better if we planned to keep the service after the first 2 months.

Were told that we'd need to return the 'modem' to a Telstra shop to terminate the service, if we didn't want to pay for it.

Seems good value to 'swap' NBN providers who offer incentives - usually lasting for 6m - to new (but not existing) clients.

    • Did your plan start from the date of your signup on chat or your deferred connection date? Someone said above that they didn't get the full 2 months.

  • does anyone know if they activate the connection on the next available port? or do they replace the current service? I am on FTTP

    • +2

Not 100% but normally FTTP they connect to next port unless you are on 1000.

  • +4

Anyone know if you can BYO modem to avoid the hassle of returning to the store after the 2 months cancellation?
Edit: I've got a spare Telstra modem

    • +1

I was on Telstra NBN for 2 years with my own router, told them not to send me the Smart Modem. No problems

      • +1

did you talk to the chat before or after you placed your order?

        • +1

          I want to know too

        • +1

"It does not work that way, as we have to wait for the modem delivery for the service to be activated…"

          Hopeless business process there

          • @FutureTech: for the nbn install on my most recent move i had to wait a day for the delivery to be marked as delivered by the courier before they’d turn the service on despite the fact it had already been delivered (and wasn’t required)

        • Order was placed over the phone so I was able to tell them then. Not sure how it works for online orders.

    I am on a FTTP 250mbps download 100mbps uploads connection. Why would a downgrade to 250mbps/25mbps ?

  • Hmm wonder if it would stack with ShopBack.

Also does the "we will arrange a disconnection" mean I don't have to cancel with my current provider?

    • Shopback on $2??

      • +3

        Haha there's a $42 on nbn plans

    • +1

Correct. You don’t have to contact your current RSP. Same as porting a mobile service.

  • +4

So what is the process of cancelling? Just cancel when it is a few days before the next billing?

    • +1

Or port to a new provider and return the modem.

    • Cancel a few days before by calling/chat, I did the november promo last year and churned after I did 2 months. Telstra didnt cancel my service when i connected to a new ISP and the chat lady actually tried to guilt trip me about paying $140 for a new month as it was "upfront" and "youre supposed to tell us to cancel cus otherwise we dont know lol" despite my churn date being before my end of billing cycle. So thats my 2c

  • Do we need to pay freight to send back the Telstra Modem?

    • +1

      return to store

    • No its a reply paid address but they didn't give me any envelopes to send it back, so I just used the same Startrack envelope it was originally sent in and taped it up

  • I'm on an Aussie Broadband 100/20 FTTN plan. The node is under 50m from my house. My neighbour who lives across the road and also accesses the same node is on a Telstra 100/20 FTTN plan. He's a bit closer to the node than me. I live semi-rural in the hills to the east of Perth. I have had very few problems with ABB and those have been sorted out very efficiently and quickly by Victoria-based ABB support. I'm very happy with my NBN connection. It's fairly fast and reliable and basically meets my needs. My neighbour has had constant problems. He's experienced multiple dropouts and his peak evening speed is somewhat patchy. He's had multiple issues with Telstra support, which seems to be a combination of Australian and Asian operations and have often struggled to rectify problems. He's also had to wait ages for support to respond to requests and he pays more than me.

I'd avoid Telstra when it comes to FTTN NBN.

    • +2

Been with superloop for almost a year but had once experienced drop outs then lately been getting bad lag online gaming, support is also just via email.

Switched to ABB and I can make a phone calls to get off CG-Nat, I can talk to real person and get instant results. Happy to pay more for service too.

Do you still get 50,000 points if you leave at the end of 2 months?

    • How much is 50,000 points worth?

      • +4

        Telstra $150 prepaid.

        • like a prepaid visa card?

          • +2

@macr0hard: No, like prepaid phone credit. You can also get a RRP $169 drone, or XBox controller + headphones, or any number of other things 50k points will get you. Check out the rewards store for yourself: https://checkout.telstra.com.au/consumer/rewards

You have to scroll down to browse by category.

    • +2

You usually get the bonus pts within days after your plan becomes active.

  • I had nothing but problems with the router supplied by telstra. I think it might be because I had ios device on the network, but random drop outs and slow speeds was the norm. I had 2 other routers that didn't have issues so I decided the 4G back up wasn't worth it and dumped thier router.

They also continued to charge me for 2 months after I cancelled my connection with them. I called after the 1st time and they told me sorry and that they would refund me. A month later they charged me again.

Good deal, but be aware it might come with some tedious issues.

Cannot choose a connection date so bye

    • +2

worked for me can choose my date

  • +2

I’m getting this message, is it because I’m with belong?

Our upfront plans aren’t available at the address. You can buy a similar plan at the same monthly cost, with the same data inclusions.

  • +1

oo I've been waiting for free NBN, I actually had to pay dodo $85 for this month because my 1 month free ended and I couldn't find another provider to churn to in time.

can we choose not to have a modem??

    • nope free modem included. just dont use it and return?

      • is it easy to return?

        • Sort of. But the chat people arent in touch with what happens in store, I asked if I can return the modem in store and they were like nah it has to go to our address in Chullora. But I'd rather return in store. Chat people also gave me a 2 week deadline to return my modem after I cancelled or "disconnected" from telstra

  • "We may conduct a credit check to confirm your ability to meet the financial commitments associated with this purchase.
We may also give your information to credit reporting organisations to obtain credit reporting information."

Not sure why they want to do that if it is a month to month. Can anyone that has signed up previously confirm if credit check was performed?

    • The credit check with Telstra is standard on any post-paid sign-up, even if it's on a month-to-month basis.

      • +2

isn't all internet services prepaid? Pay before you use?

    • +1

I'd say its viewed a bit differently to a credit check for finance . I wouldn't worry about it.

  • +4

At first, I was keen to go through the hassle to get 2 months of 250Mpbs for free…
But then they reminded me why I ditched Telstra.
"Your password from 3 years ago is not correct"
"Want to reset? No you cannot paste new password from your password manager, please type it. Oh, you used that password before, you cannot use it. Oh no, you have some strange special characters, that's too secure for us. Oh no, your password is longer than 16 characters, too secure. And type it manually again."
"Ok, you logged in but you lost everything in your cart! Now, you clicked on ozbargain's link again, but we do not recall you - please log in again" .
"Yay, you have this sweet $2 deal in your cart, let's proceed! Here is your home address from 3 years ago, check if it's right, it's critical for proceeding with ID check and stuff. You want to change it? No, there is no button for that".
"You think "My Telstra" button would have something to help you with changing your home address? Maybe, maybe not, Something went wrong, Refresh or try again later."

Yeah nah, I'm not going through that dumpster of IT services ever once.

    • You can change the address on the first page where you choose your plan, I had the same problem.

  • Thank you OP signed up.
Hopefully modem is not required and can work with Nest Wifi router (plus NBN NTD).
Going to cancel after 2 months and return modem to store.

  • Anyone knows telstra is ipoe or pppoe if I use my own router??

    Thanks

    • Does it still matter? You just need to plug the cable into the Uni-D post and it will work well, no need to set up user, password, or anything.

      • +5

There are more access types than FTTP on the nbn.

      • +3

There is no NBN NTD on FTTN, FTTB, or FTTC. So no Uni-D port and will require a modem.

IPoE - no login or password required
PPPoE - authentication with login name and password required

    • +5

      ipoe

    • +1

IPoE last time I used them.

  • I am on FTTP. Do I really need to use their crappy modem? or Can I just continue using mine?

    • +1

      you can use your own

    • same here

  • Only just signed up for the dodo one month free, coming from origin 2 months free. Going to see how far ahead I can schedule this for hah

  • +2

I've already got a modem, seems kinda stupid that you can't opt out of getting one sent.

    • same

  • why is there a phone plan with this?

Unlimited calls to standard Australian numbers & 13 numbers

am i getting an nbn service plus a postpaid sim plan?

    • +3

      More likely VOIP

  • Signed up as Origin 2 month is ending soon plus Aussie BB code is not working.

    • Same boat. Do we need to call up Origin to disconnect/cancel or will Telstra take care of that?

      • depends, fttp you can have multiple going at once

      • +2

If you are on FTTP, you should contact the old provider as they can activate on 2nd port.
HFC, Telstra will cancel the service for you

        • +1

What about FTTC? I'm with origin now

      • when i switched from ABB to Origin on the 1000 plan, they had to use another port. On the 100/40 plans the switched the existing port to the new provider. Something to do with bandwidth it seems.

        • With FTTP you can't have a second port active if the first port is on 1 Gbps service.

    • Chat with Aussie BB about code not working and they will be happy to apply the code for you via phone order (chat arrange a rep to call you). Just did it yesterday. They said you are still considered a new customer of Aussie BB even if you were with Origin.

  • Annoying they can’t find my address. All other providers can find it, or can get it sorted within the chat/call session except these guys. Needs 3-5 business days. Then I need to reach out again to get it sorted.

Can you BYO modem? I probably won’t even open their modem if I don’t need it

    • I had the same issue of Telstra not being able to find my address during their 5G home internet promotion. I thought it would have been sorted out by now.

  • Their cheapest plan is $80? I'll stick with ABB $65 a month. 25mbps seems fine for our house

    • +9

I don't think anyone here is intending to stay with Telstra past the 2 months lol

  • +1

I'm on a More NBN plan with BYO modem. Can I churn to Telstra for 2 months with this plan and then move back to More without issues?

  • +1

    no BYO option ?

  • Did anyone had luck signing up with future date after 04/06/22?

    • maybe use 4/6/22 then contact them & change it closer to the time……

    • The order tracking screen has an option to change the connection date so maybe wait a few days then see if you can change the date beyond 4/6/22

  • Thanks, moving to a new place end of the month. Subscribed and will try it out.

  • What's considered a new customer?

    • +2

You currently don't have Telstra NBN at home.

      • +2

Sheet. I was expecting the usual you know 6 months or whatever. Thanks.

        • +3

Telstra is too rich to count. I just left them less than 2 months ago and rejoined fine.

          • @truetypezk: I left last night and returned this morning lol

  • +1

Yeah I'm going to join and churn after 2m
I'm gong to message and tell them not to send the router

    • They refused to not send the router and told me to reject delivery
