Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 4G $0 on Optus 30GB Choice Plus Data Plan $12.50/Month for 12 Months @ Optus

11571

This one started today, but I went into my Optus App to get it and there was a 50% off data sim offer that stacked with the $0 Tablet.

Has to be 30gb data plan or above.

So my deal was

$12.50 x 12 Months
Tab A8 64gb 4G
30 GB Data added to my data pool
$150 total cost.

    • From their FAQ, I got this

      Backorder and raincheck
Sometimes due to high demand stock runs out before demand does. In which case, your order might be placed on backorder or raincheck.

You may have been told you are on backorder or raincheck when you placed your order, here's some more information about the process:

Backorder: This phone's been very popular, and we're currently waiting on more stock to arrive. We can place your order and you'll be added to the queue. We can't give you a time frame for delivery yet but we'll keep you updated.

Raincheck: This phone's been really popular and we're waiting on more stock which will arrive soon. Place your order now and we'll add you to the queue. We can't give you a delivery time frame but we'll keep you updated.

  • Picked one up thanks OP. Got confirmation and cashback tracking instantly.

  • don't forget cashback from CashRewards. They track at $30 for me. I thought it should be tracked at $55.

    • Same. Mine only tracked at $30 too.

    • Same here. Logged an enquiry. Let's see what happens.

  • Bought one, thanks OP. Shopback gives additional 8.5% cashback.

    • I guess you chose the wrong one for cashback, it should be $55?

      • I know, but I had so many issues with Cashback previously. Give up on it.

    • SB only give cashback for prepaid not postpaid. Did you get your cashback tracked?

      • I did get it tracked.

    • No it doesn’t. It’s up to $55 for postpaid broadband services. Fail.

      • Cashback wont get approved. Tried it with 50% off the 5gb plan already earlier this year when shopback was giving i think $28

        • That would be pretty annoying!
There's no fine print saying it's not available on a non promo code required deal. What was the reason for denying your claim?

You may not be eligible for Cashback:

Cashback is ineligible on orders placed via Webchat.

If a gift card is purchased or used as payment.
If a coupon code is used that is not listed on Cashrewards.
If your order is not fully completed online or is later changed.

          • @OrderedChaos: If you noticed you cant access the 50% off via website. Looked everywhere but couldnt find it. You have to explicitly click on the offer link

  • cheers op, ordered this last night. lets hope optus honours this!

  • Thanks heaps, got myself one. Cashback tracked, contacting them for the $55

    • Lemme know what they say m also raised am enquiry with them for the same.

    • Can confirm - a manager at Cashrewards contacted me today. The issue has been noted and will be corrected for all impacted customers. My account now reflects $55 pending approval. Hope approval is seamless.

      • Yep same with me, they were quick to fix. Showing $55 cashback.

        • How do you contact them because I get the following message "PLEASE NOTE: 'Send a Claim' option is not available for clicks dated within 7 days or after 60 days."

  • I bought and received an invoice which is worrying. Discount for the device isn’t shown while discount foor the services are there.

            @striker5950: I can see it coming😁

            • -3

@vinnycol: they can neg if it hurts their feelings but the thing is, once they cancel your orders, they still have your data and your face pic if you did that validation thing.. by they I mean the India based support and admin team, you can assume your data will be kept safe and secret and will not be sold or handed to third party advertisers/scammers😁

          • +2

@striker5950: Why? That's exactly as everyone expected the offer to be

          • +1

@striker5950: Everyone expected to have to stay on the plan for 12 months to not pay device repayment fees. Hence $150 mentioned everywhere

No-one expected to get it for free if they cancelled in the first month

I also have the device discount term so it should be ok

    • +1

      Fail

  • Do you need to activate the SIM ?

    • SIMs are delivered in an activated state. Mine was activated the day it arrived so I guess it's triggered by delivery notifications.

  • Do I understand this correct - you pay $12 per month for 12 months, so $144 total and you get tablet for free, which sells for $299 at JbHifi. Sell tablet and cancel sub after 12 months, so essentially free mobile plan for a year?

Sounds to be too good to be true?

    • +1

Correct, except this tablet is $500 because 4G. $299 is wifi only

    • +2

If this deal is honoured the market will be flooded with Optus A8 tablets so I wouldn't expect their value to be retained…

  • +1

Hi Guys, just a quick question. If I buy this deal and a prepaid 365 days plan with Optus, will it share data between the 2 services? Thanks

  • +1

Only got a temporary order number and no other confirmation. Signed up soon after this was posted.

    • +7

      Username checks out

  • Has anyone checked if this data plan can be shared via wifi hotspot on a device?

    • yea should be able to tether

    • The data plan does not impact if a device can hotspot?

    • Yes it can. I have one inserted into a 4G modem at my business

    • I thought that idea of restricting tether was an apple thing 10 years ago which required jailbreaking.

      Pretty much fine now?

  • any1 able to checkout with AMEX??

    • -5

      ok figured it out

CVV is 3 digits like xxx, but you have to put a 0 in the front - like 0xxx

      • +11

The Amex cvv should be four digits on the front of the Amex card, not the three digits on the back

  • Thanks got one too. Now I need a case….

  • I don't really need the sim but want the tablet…. What could I do with the data, can I put that SIM in my s21 along with my existing SIM? Thanks!

Also will cancelling these plans be a pain?

    • +1

I am currently using an Optus data-only SIM in an Android phone.

      • Great, thanks for confirming!

    • +1

Yes, If your S21 accepts 2 Sim cards.

    • +1

Yes you can eSIM the optus and set it for data while you use your physical sim for calls and texts!

  • +1

Anyones cashrewards not track too? Hoping it's just delayed. Otherwise I might email them. Click history is there but no tracking :(

    • Mine was tracked at $30 immediately. Possible that the order is pending ID notification with Optus. Saw a lot of those earlier in the thread.

      • Do you sign up though Optus - Postpaid link in CR?

        • Yep I did. Correctly reflects as postpaid on Cashrewards.

    • My guess this is for new signup. I had an existing account and did not track.

    • +11

Read the contract dude. The device repayment amount is offset by the monthly device credit

      • -8

Yea thats what it says when you order. The contract you receive does not include $0 device repayment plan. If you have not saved the screenshot of your order summary, then good luck.

        • +5

I repeat read the contract. My one has a $44 device credit to offset the monthly device cost.

          • -3

@dinglejerry: Lucky you. My does not, so is for others who reported previously in here. I had to provide sceeenshot of my order summary to the optus rep, they said they have to raise a request to their back end team to apply discount before the oder is processed.

            • +1

@manofoz: So that's you then but you're making out the offer is not valid for anybody here which is not correct

        • +3

          Re-read your contract.

See this on the bottom of page 1 out of 5 of your contract.

          "Device Credits
You are eligible for a device discount as a $44.04 per month credit for up to 12 months on service number 0402 XXX XXX. To receive this device credit you
must maintain an active mobile service on an eligible plan with Optus for the 12 months. If you terminate, port out or change to an ineligible rate plan
any remaining device credits will be forfeited and you will need to pay out in full any remaining device charges."

          • -3

@brosk1s: My contract shows like below, which rang the alarm bell and i contacted optus rep to confirm. They said devise offset is not included in my contract.

            …….
            Recurring Monthly Costs
            30GB Optus Choice Plus Data $25.00 1
            Plan(Oct 21)
            50% Discount for 12 months(Subs) $-12.50 1

            Samsung Tab A8 64GB $44.04 12

            Supplementary Services
            Optus Sport $14.99 Per month

Optus Sport Subscription Disc $-14.99 1

            • +2

@manofoz: Is there not another page after that? Immediately under that section is where there's a mention of device credits

              • -6

@unity1: It does says under the "device credit", but under " recurring monthly Costs" it shows $44.04 for the samaung tab, no offset is listed.

My point is check with Optus rep and confirm your monthly payment.

                My contract below
                ………

                Device Credits
You are eligible for a device discount as a $44.04 per month credit for up to 12 months on service number 0402 Xxx xxx. To receive this device credit you
must maintain an active mobile service on an eligible plan with Optus for the 12 months. If you terminate, port out or change to an ineligible rate plan
any remaining device credits will be forfeited and you will need to pay out in full any remaining device charges.

                • +10

@manofoz: Come on mate, do we need to spell this out for you? The 44.04 device credit offsets your $44.04 monthly cost for the tablet. This is exactly the same as everyone else here who signed up.

                  • -4

@dinglejerry: I was in same understanding as you initially, I suggest if your contract shows like mine, check and confirm with Optus rep.

                    • +2

@manofoz: The rep you spoke to was an idiot then. The contract is plain and clear.

                      • -3

@dinglejerry: Have you spoke with Optus rep yet?

                        • +6

@manofoz: I don't think we can make you understand, it's clear that the monthly payment is $12.50 (no other charges unless you cancel before 12 months).
You can keep chatting with optus reps until you find someone who knows how to explain that to you but I am not worried as my contract is clear.

                        • +2

                          @manofoz: Yes.

                        • @manofoz: Mate a contract is a legal document in Australia and afaik, everyone’s document has said there’s a $44.04 device credit if you stay with them for 12 months.

That changes if you exit in the first month, this that’s why the minimum cost is high

                          • -5

@BargainsGrabber: Look under- Recurring Monthly Costs
How much listed for Samsung Tab ?? A contract is a contract.

                            • +5

@manofoz: Then look at the last yellow box on that page under "Device Credits". Those credits offset the device charges you mention, as long as you stay connected for 12 months.

                              https://ibb.co/MsVDjM1

I've pretty much used up my daily quota of negs on you, please stop. Or wait until tomorrow to comment further.

                            • +1

@manofoz: Yes and a recurring credit that is mentioned on your contract is a recurring credit. It's not rocket science. There is a recurring device cost of $44.04/mo. There is then a recurring credit of $44.04/mo.

Simple maths from this point on, but just in case I'll try to help you here too.

44.04-44.04=0. Thus the device will cost you $0/month as long as you remain connected to an eligible plan for the 12 month period.

                  • +6

@dinglejerry: Omg the Intelligence of some.

                    It's spelt out clearly

    • +1

Why spreading misinformation? Read the contract first.

  • I am not currently with Optus and this was from the chat with them:

"I also wanted to keep you informed that, the 50% discount for 12 months is only for active existing customers.
Since all our plans are month to month plan

    No contract
    No cancellation fee
Can upgrade or downgrade as per your convenience
Add data sharing for all mobile and mobile broadband plans."

I can hep you to place the order for $0 Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 with a data sim plan.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to provide 50% discount for data sim plan

Is that mean I cannot get this one as a new user?

  • Thanks, ordered

  • Thanks, ordered one.

  • Thanks OP I ordered… my son needed an upgrade from his old Samsung Tablet that is barely working 👍

    • -3

Samsung tabs are junk. Hardly last 3 years. Go iPad if u want something to last and can sell in 5 year later and still get 1/4 of the cost back unless u want android. Then ull turning this over in couple years too

      • +7

Not for a 5 year old and 7 year old kids… Especially as they are using really old Samsung tablets now.

Not everyone needs Apple overpriced tech

        $150 is hardly a big investment…

In the end I ordered one for each kid as their birthdays are coming up in a May

        Perfect deal IMO
