Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 4G $0 on Optus 30GB Choice Plus Data Plan $12.50/Month for 12 Months @ Optus

11571

This one started today, but I went into my Optus App to get it and there was a 50% off data sim offer that stacked with the $0 Tablet.

Has to be 30gb data plan or above.

So my deal was

$12.50 x 12 Months
Tab A8 64gb 4G
30 GB Data added to my data pool
$150 total cost.

          • @I Smell Pennies: Did you chat via the My Optus app? My confirmation email arrived at 5:14pm with the contract.

            • @speirsy76: I can't access the app since my orders aren't processed yet (I'm a new customer)

  • I have been messaging with three different repes vis My Optus App for 45 mins. I had no luck with finding any new stock of either the 64GB or 128GB models…

  • +11

    64GB

    128GB

backdoor/frontdoor link depending on how you look at it. No guarantees but I had this link saved when I was looking at it yesterday.

    • For 64GB,The product is currently out-of-stock ,NO GOAL

      • +1

You might need to try a few times in incognito mode before it shows in stock. I can still seem to check out

        • wondering what is the minimum charges about ? ($496.94)

          • @dlovep: Because the data plan is month to month, if you cancel after the first month you'll still owe 11 device payments (11x44.04+12.5 for the first month = minimum charges) iirc.

            Something like that anyways.

    • Still works up to credit check.

      • Any update?

    • Thanks for sharing. Can anybody confirm if they have made this to work. Have a mate keen to get one

      • Didn't work through Firefox for 64GB, but working in chrome. No idea why…
        Got an order in.
Wasn't going to, but 900upvotes, I'd be crazy not to…

    • Thanks chorong!

No luck on the 64Gb, but put through an order for he 128Gb at 2200.

Let's see if it gets cancelled.

    • looks like chrorong backdoor link still works. I have just ordered a 128gb and order went through okay.

      • Did you get a temporary order confirmation after ordering?

  • Optus has cancelled my order. Seems like it is an error and they are cancelling everyone order.

    • Did you receive email?

      • +1

No, I have received an email and SMS that my order is in. However when I went to Optus app and track my order, the order status is cancelled.

        • +2

          Mine says service activation pending.

        • What time was the order creation date stated in the app?

    • +6

That's bs, so they can pull out of their end of the contract but I can't without a penalty fee? And on top of that, my credit has now had an enquiry against it for no reason?

      • Could you please check your order status in your Optus app? What it says?

        • +3

In the app, mine says Order Status: Submitted and Service activation: Pending.

          • @grababargain: oh weird mine says
            Order Status: Open
            Service activation: Pending

I’m praying but looks like I’m not going to get it since it’s not submitted?

        • When I open the app I get a screen saying "No active services" and the only options I get are "Message us" or "Log out".

        • In the order tab (Optus App) today, the product section is empty however it was showing Samsung galaxy tab yesterday.

          • @Benzy: In the Order tab (Optus App), Product is Samsung Tab A8 64GB.

            • @grababargain: It was shown as Samsung tab yesterday however it was gone today. So the product section is empty.

Only plan section is filled, that is 30GB Optus choice plus data plan.

    • What time did you order and was your order number ending with A?

      • I did it yesterday around 5:00pm (WA time) and yes the order number is ending with A.

        • Ok… Looks like the party might be over.

        • Did mine two hours before you and mine is still ok… here’s hoping!

          • @imnotarobot: Hopefully there is a glitch in the system status. I am really looking forward to get my Samsung galaxy tab.

            • @Benzy: Just ordered 10 minutes ago and went through okay…

            • @Benzy: The worse is the call centre acknowledged the offer and allow people to make an order through chat/ call

      • What is the relevance of having an order number ending with 'A'?

    • +3

      Hi all

      Update:

Just checking all the email and communications from the Optus as well as app, I found out that they have cancelled the original order number today and create the new order number. Both order number ends with A.

Optus app shows original order number (not the new one, dont know why) and therefore the status is cancelled.

To conclude, my order is still active, not cancelled ( just replaced with different order number).

      • You might wanna edit the original comment lol

        • I tried but can't edit anymore. @admin, can you help to edit my original comment?

      • Optus just messing with you

  • +3

Ordered last night an hour or so after the deal was posted. Order status is still saying ‘submitted’ and service activation is still saying ‘pending’. Let’s see what happens.

    • Yep. Ordered about same time and still have exact status/service

  • +3

Anyone know the difference between the two order statuses? Open vs Submitted

Mine is 'Open' but everyone here has 'Submitted'

  • +2

I got given a temporary order number, put it through in the early hours of this morning. Anyone know what it means?
I have tried chatting with Optus but they haven't responded.

    Thanks bonezAU!
    Your order has been submitted.
Your temporary order number is T616xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Please note that we may still require additional information.

If this is the case, an Optus customer care representative will call you within the next 48 hours, from phone number like this: (02) 8049 XXXX.

For those saying that they can’t see how this can be honoured, I actually think it makes sense for Optus. They probably have a huge surplus of these tablets that they need to get rid of. Data costs them very little, they get some form of a return on their old stock which would have otherwise had to be written off and they might snag a few customers who stay with Optus long term.

    • +3

I agree. I think they at least break even on this, plus they boost their subscriber count which looks good for quarterly reporting, and many will forget to cancel or overpay

    • +4

Old stock? Didn't this tablet come out mid Jan?

      • Someone mentioned earlier there was a new one on the way.

        • +3

No, this is the new one, only been out a few months.

  • +1

Had a crack for shits and giggles on the online chat with Colin. No go for 64gb or 128gb. All out of stock and no idea if they will be getting any back in

  • -4

[IMP] If the deal doesn't get honoured, I think we will have a right to lodge a complaint with Ombudsman.

Each complaint costs the company at least a couple of hundred in processing costs etc. I would recommend that all of us lodge an individual complaint against Optus if they don't honour the contract.

We should ask for original contract to be honoured or be reimbursed with the cancellation costs of $496.xx

If you think this is the right approach, please upvote this comment otherwise provide your opinion in the thread.

    • +12

Why? What are you complaining about?

    • -1

      +1

    • +10

      Are you "that" guy?

    • +20

Meh, no offence but if it works out great. If not, no harm no foul. I personally think the ‘entitled’ to the ‘deal’ view is flawed, even if it is a huge communications company.
Small business couldn’t possibly fulfil these orders- should a large one?

Anyway, just my opinion. And yea, I hope it goes through.

      • +3

        My view entirely.

      • +7

You already have a credit check on your account. Plus if it was you cancelling this contract, you'd be charged the $496.xx cancellation amount.

        • +1

Doesn’t bother me. You’ll have that on your file whether you get the deal or not. If you’re worried about credit checks you shouldn’t really be applying for these types of things anyway.

        • +6

Go and read this thread, people have made mistakes in their order (36 months instead of 12 months) so have cancelled the order and re-ordered without a charge.

Customer entitlement has gone nuts, seriously.

    • Email to Gladys 😜. She will honour this deal
      https://www.optus.com.au/about/media-centre/media-releases/2…

      • -1

        Gladys wtf?

        • I guess she needed a job.

    • +8

This post is the definition of entitlement

    • This ain't it chief.

  • if you want to order & get it quicker do it via chat was told by the rep it goes through immediately & you should receive the tab in 3 days, if you go via app/website it goes through the backend & can take up to 10days, I went the cashrewards way which probably wont get anyway, just go through chat

    • Even though it's marked as oos?

      • not sure haven't tried since oos but worth a try

        • Okay, just did so, and got a NO. I asked about a backorder and got this response.

"Back order is an option when the warehouse has item in stock. The warehouse doesn't have item in stock.
Kindly wait for the item to be restocked and keep checking the website."

So that's it then. I missed out. Probably better for my wallet. 😁

          • @lordra: Damn, try the website somehow others are getting it through

          • +2

@lordra: That’s an odd definition. I would have thought that if the warehouse has the item in stock, then the item is in stock. Back order would be when its out of stock and the warehouse is ordering more from the supplier.

            • @Ebaygiftcards: Only passing on what I was told, I’m assuming as they check all your details their n then they can approve it immediately through chat.. when you order on the site it gets ordered then has to be processed, you’re signing up to a contract so has to go through some process you would think

    • I find that doubtful
It says free express delivery, more likely if you do thru chat the sales rep gets credit so they prefer you to do thar.

    • Don't think the reps have the power to push the orders on a priority basis. In the end, everything goes via the backend process and all the checks need to be passed before the order is successfully processed. This is especially the case when there is hardware involved.

  • ordered one, thanks OP.

    • I logged into my account just now and found I still had the 128gb in my cart. Proceeded with the order and it went thorugh. I have just been allocated an order number ending with A. So I have 2 orders pending.

  • Hopefully the orders marked as "Pending" (including mine) have had a unit allocated to them in Optus' elaborate stock system!

Being a pending order probably makes it easier for them to cancel it if they need to cull some numbers. On the flipside, I am an existing customer so hopefully they can look after their loyal customer base (lol).

  • I had a temporary order number for 24 hours so I jumped on live chat and the bloke confirmed it all and processed the order. Now have an order number ending in A. Should receive this week! If anyone else is in this situation hit up the chat.

  • Strange, I got my contract, but it does not have the $44.04 device credit.

My total contract cost comes out to $496.94. Did something go wrong?

    Recurring Monthly Costs
    30GB Optus Choice Plus Data $25.00 1
    Plan(Oct 21)
    50% Discount for 12 months(Subs) $-12.50 1
    Samsung Tab A8 64GB $44.04 12
    Supplementary Services
    Optus Sport $14.99 Per month
Optus Sport Subscription Disc $-14.99 1

TOTAL minimum cost over contract term(s) $496.94

(This is the total of all recurring monthly charges multiplied by the contract term, plus one month of supplementary services, plus one off costs)

    • +4

      Read lower

      • Thank you, surprised they didn't mention it together. But at least it's in writing under its own heading.

  • Anyone having issues with the Optus app? Mine keeps crashing after entering the pin, was working fine up until last night.

  • Looks like the A8 deal has been taken down and Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 is on the website (now?) for $44.04/mth (12 mths) for device payment + $12.50/mth data plan with no credits for device payments.

Here’s what is on the website now:

Interest free device payments if you remain on an eligible month-to-month Data Plan for 12 months.

    • A7 is worth more than A8 according to Optus logic.

      • A7 actually has better specs…

    • +1

It's still there on the website, just need to scroll to the right a bit.
      …but OOS

  • I got the order status as submitted and order number ends with A.

    Wait game now

  • Oh no ..miss out this deal

      aiyoyo

I have been talking to the app chat and I was informed the device is out of stock even though I placed my order on 23/04. I was also told the device bonus has been pulled out from Optus on 24/04

    • +12

People need to keep in mind that the Optus staff that you chat through on the app normally have next to no idea what is happening at the best of times. I’ve been with Optus for years and you can ask 3 different staff members the same question and get 3 different answers.

What does your order status say in the app?

      • I only got a temporary order number

        • So that is probably the bigger issue there. I don’t think that rules out the people that got full order numbers.

    • Does it mean that people who placed orders on 24th won't be getting the device?

      • The device bonus will not apply according to the support rep I have been talking to..
