Please never use those. They usbc port are not designed to be tugged in the same way you would with a head set. It will get loosened. Depending on the device, repairing will cost the same price as the PCB.
Just buy a wireless gaming head set if you're calling with these, or most modern phone for that matter.

Don't need it and haven't been Optus customer for years but tablet plus 30gb data for $150 over a year. Too good to miss. Didn't bother with sports pack because it only mentioned soccer. I get the feeling maybe I am missing something.

It is a 12 month contract - and if you remain on it for 12 months, you will get the $44.04/monthly device discount (which is the $528.48, roughly equal the $529 RRP for the tablet). The device creits terms on the contract is pretty clear: "To receive this device credit you must maintain an active mobile service or an eligible plan with Optus for the 12 months".
But it says the minimum cost is $500(roughly) in the fine print…

No where on the contract does it mention 24 or 36 months (assuming you chose the 12 month option for the tablet).
@Fiximol: Alright, I manage to figure out how to get that figure. If you get the Device RRP of $528.45/12 = $44.04.
After 1 month is $44.04 * 11 = 484.44. Which is the minimum cost for the tablet itself and add in the plan cost of $12.50 which gives you 496.94.
We are taking 11 months for the tablet cost as you will need to stay for a minimum of 1 month before cancelling.

The cashrewards terms state that the cashback may be rejected if a promotion code is used that isn't listed on the CR website. I wouldn't assume that will be approved. I even somewhat doubt these orders will be honoured from Optus.

I've had Optus reneg on an offer like this years ago, just got to get the TIO involved. They make it as much a pain as possible, but prob worth it given the deal.
True. I left Optus years ago, and the were a pain to deal with. They were hugely incompetent, which funnily resulted in a discount carrying across to a new plan it was not intended for, saving us $150. But yeah, who knows how this will end.

Ok thanks. I thought some telcos restrict the usage of data sims based on the imei of certain devices. Wasn't sure whether Optus was one of them.

From memory Samsung does not allow you to install apps onto a microSD card
@krouton24: Looking deeper it seems like all apps have to installed onto internal storage, then some apps (like Asphalt 8) can be moved to run on external storage afterwards depending on the developer.

I received two emails. One for the account confirmation and the second with the order confirmation. The arrived 2 minutes apart.
I luckily screenshot the order on the site. I never received the order confirmation. Went through to chat who said there was issue with ID, had to give details to Agent and he eventually put order through.

Yeah there is some random number attached. Will they send us new sim with that new number. Actually I gave my number in portal but that number is now showing in contact number and not service number
Exactly same for me, my current non-Optus number is the contact number and the random service number will be used for data plan, will get a sim along with tablet for use. Don’t think we can use the service no for anything else though

So…. After 3 hours of useless chat bots and network dropouts finally confirmed my order via chat. I am sceptical too. But reading the website print shows $44.04 device credit if remain on eligible month to month data plan, but this was not in the terms and conditions I agreed to, so I took screenshots of the chat where the agent confirmed this would be $0, and the website where it was advertised for comfort. The discount on the data plan did appear in terms and conditions. Fingers crossed it comes through, tbh don’t really feel like it was worth the hassle for this one, but who can fight the urge of the ozbargain community spirit!!

I read it that the Sim plan is not a lock in contact, you can cancel any time, so if you cancel after 1 month, the minimum term, you pay that, plus the remaining device repayments… but if you continue paying the monthly Sim plan, you're entitled to the device credit, which in this case makes it cheaper then cancelling and paying it the device in the first month…
Can someone with an A8 please confirm whether apps can be loaded on the SD card? I purchased the 64gb assuming, as with all my other Android devices from Ice Cream Sandwich onward, that I'll be able to install apps on the SD card.
This is a mess if it's not the case seeing as the drive software already consumes ~26gb. Anyway your help will be appreciated.

Have a Sony Tablet with 64gb. Was dog slow until I moved Apps across and free space. Dunno if Android 11 is better, but it seems that apps are getting more bloated by the day.
It's also not clear whether Apps can be directed to use the SD for storage. Netflix and other streaming apps don't appear to. Neither does YouTube and Chrome, which easily hit 1gb each in data and cache. Kodi for Android is awful. Cache cleanup doesn't happen automatically so it grows and grows.
… just checked my S21. Apps with their data and cache sits at 30gb with NO Games or Social Apps other than the original bloat.
Tab S7 has 28gb of Apps and App data. Again no games or social. 🤦

Pulled the plug and ordered the 128gb to be certain. $30 Cashrewards on the deal brings it close to the price of the 64gb unit. Have confirmed telephonically with Optus that I can return the 64gb with no penalty or issues. Saved the call details screenshot 🤣.PS: I have queried the $30 with Cashrewards. Should be $55, which would be sweeter. 😄

I don’t think so. I’d imagine that they probably have a heap of old stock on their books and this is the best way to move it. Data costs them next to nothing, so they are making $150 for the tablets and may also get some long term customers out of it as well.

Better suited to one task at a time. The amount of RAM isn't the limiting factor but rather the Unisoc CPU is really slow for a device with a $528.40 RRP. It's not even close to the performance of a base $499 iPad 10.2", which is 2-3x faster and could handle multitasking a lot better.
This is still a great deal considering the tablet specs is a great deal by itself at $200-230 (+ whatever you value 4G connectivity at) and comes with 4 years of updates unlike imported cheap Chinese Android tablets which get abandoned quickly, as well as 360GB of data over 12 months & free Optus Sport ($5-15/mo).
But if you don't know much about cheap Android tablets, you aren't getting a base iPad competitor with all these extras for $150, you still get what you pay for. No active stylus (S Pen) or Samsung DeX support with this A8 either.

Just be aware. Apps can't be loaded on the SD. Further investigation done. There was an update for the A7, which allowed some Apps to be moved, however it's very hit and miss with it reporting the app being moved, but storage shows no improvement to internal storage use. I've decided it's not worth the pain and ordered a 128gb. Will be returning the 64gb, which I have to apparently wait for then return. Odd seeing as the order is still Pending. Oh well.

While security updates are important, your overall user experience with A8 will not be the same as the S4. There will be times A8 be less responsive.

Your concerns with app support won't be an issue until many more years. And your S4 has a chip that's still faster than this Tab A8. Samsung's mid-range tablets are gimped beyond reason, when you do eventually upgrade get an S series tablet.

The 44.04 device credit offsets your $44.04 monthly cost for the tablet. This is exactly the same as everyone else here who signed up.

After I read your comment, I took out my Samsung GT-P1000T, it still can be turned on after it has been charged for about 10 minutes.
my old tab8 lasted at least 8 years of daily use and spent one year botting in a game 24/7 with a fan blowing on it. The only reason why I dont use it anymore is the charge port is failing. If I leave it in long enough it will detect but often takes a week (i dont actually know exactly)

FWIW and probably a little late for you - I have bought those cases for the kids tabs before and they are great but the prop stand is average and it would overbalance if standing on the table and the kids wanted to press the screen. But since you asked - I went and had a look again and you would have to be reefing/bending/pulling it very hard for it to break off. Its got a firm plastic or metal vertical rod that the little leg pivots out on and the foam stuff is the chunky, not soft stuff (I dont know the technical term!) so it's not coming off easily.@ironik: My 3 year old son says "challenge accepted". Pulls on and bites everything…has broken multiple things we didn't think possible 😡. He must have been a dog in a past life…😂

I called up and they pushed it through, now have a trackable order number ending with an A which is what you want. Might be because I was a distant ex customer with different address details now they wanted to confirm. They said my credit was approved over the phone.
Pretty easy to get them to push it through but initially he didn't have the device discount loaded so I had to remind him so that the price became $12.5 a month.

I have also confirmed with the Optus chat rep about my orders, and they've confirmed that there will be no further charges if I cancel the plan after 12months (I have the chat history in my email).I have confirmation email for only 1 order.
There was a 3rd order which I had to cancel it as I accidentally selected 36month plan for device. Optus chat rep said that the cancellation may take few days to process so incase the device gets sent to my address, he/she suggested me to not accept the delivery.
I already have a couple of data sims on Optus, one $15 and one $25. This deal actually increases the data allowance, halves the cost AND gives me a free tablet. Hell, if the first one goes through I'm tempted to grab a second one too since it would save me $2.50 on the $15 sim too.
The million dollar question for me is if being a business customer I can get the 50% off deal. If not, it's still the same $25 I'm paying but with a free tablet on the business side but I would be willing to move the data sims to a personal account to save a few $$.

He said my visa is not valid for the device but only the sim plan, so what they can do is give me the sim card but not the device.
I asked for a written email but he said cant do and hanged up when I ask for a reference number for the phone call.

I placed my order when I saw this deal yesterday and I never received a confirmation email and so I contacted their live chat support and they told me that my order is subject to a credit check and that the assessment team required that I email them proof of address and a copy of my driver's licence.
I never received any email or anything telling me that I needed to do anything further to progress my order, so if anyone else is still yet to get a confirmation email, it is probably worth contacting them to find out what is required of you.
