      Could be reason Optus has offered this on this deal and also heard this tablet being thrown in when you buy latest sammy phones - that they are clearing them out. I watched a reviewer saying the Tab A7 is better than A8. And there is the base ipad competing.

    • i've quickly tried the tablet and i thought it was ok. in my case the tablet is a freebie since i am using the data for home internet. the cool bluish tint of the screen is the weakest point. changing to the dark theme helps.

      • one thing ive found helpful for apple users is changing the home button to a swipe up and its very good as im used to the swipe up on the iPhone 11

      • i found you can make the display less blue by enabling eye comfort shield in the display options and using the colour temperature slider to limit the blue. not perfect but better

        edit: oh works in light mode but stuffs up dark mode, now it has a yellowish tint :(

      Had that once got a Sim. And got hammered 24,hrs a day from debt collectors and drug dealers death threats got it swapped about 24hrs they were relentless

    Placed the order online on 23/4. Order processed over the phone on 24/4.
    Had several chats with Optus support to check on the status, but all of them have been utterly useless (saying that there is no more stock, so there's no guarantee that the contract will be fulfilled).

    Finally got a tracking number last night, both the SIM and tablet arrived today (in a single package).
    Tablet is not locked to Optus.

    Tracking shows tablet only took several hours to arrive from Sydney to Perth early this morning, tracking now says it'll take 4 days to arrive at my address in Perth from the Perth depot !

    • After looking through many different styles of cases, I've taken a punt on this one because it is the only cheapish one that I could find with a built in stand that works in both orientations.

      "Bonus" screen protector and stylus pen also.

      Only issues are longish shipping and lowish seller rating.

      Was previously contemplating this one but figured too bulky and have to buy my own screen protector separately. Although the free one from above is only plastic, so still might need to buy a tempered glass one anyway.

  • My 128GB tablet shipped yesterday. Unfortunately, according to the tracking info, it "arrived late" in Hobart this morning at 10am so I assume it missed out on being loaded into a delivery van. Will probably sit at the depot all weekend for delivery on Monday.

    • You should be able to use it that way.
      Just make sure the sim card has been activated!

      You can make and receive calls on the tablet if you put a mobile sim but not the one it comes with.

        He uses facebook but rarely make phone calls.

    Mine was shipped 26th but tracking hasnt moved since.
    Crazy that people got overnight delivery from sydney to perth, but sydney to canberra and i am still waiting with no change to tracking. It even still says expected delivery is 27th.

      I'm in Melbourne, and in similar situation, shipped on 26th. Startrack tracking says it was expected to be delivered on the 27th. Its still sitting at Melbourne depot and hasn't moved. It looks like I'll get it next week now.

    I've put an order in 24th but the status in Optus app still says Submitted. No update or changes. Is this normal? I tried their message us system but useless it kept asking me to raise to senior expert which bring back to the same page.

      Ordered on the 23rd here and the app still says 'submitted' for me as well. The live chat support are useless and will just make up something different every time you get in contact with someone. Seems that the best bet now is to just sit and wait and hope that a tablet shows up.

        Since the tablet is cheap, thought I shall try to find another (already got 2 via Optus) and leave it in my elderly grandparent’s place for Whatsapp video chat. So, made a few offers for $150 (anticipating counter offers along the line of $200).

        Instead, one seller offered to purchase off me for $250 “if I can get one for $250” (quoted).
        Well, guess what! Of course I agreed to the offer! (I still have a semi working Lenovo M8 at home for random Youtube streaming). Then the seller ghosted on me.

        In fact, I offered to sell 4 to the seller @ $250 and delivered via Sendle. Planning to source the additional two out of my own money off Fleabay to offload them to him/her/it…

          If the main purpose is WhatsApp (or FB, Zoom, Teams) video chats, you could consider the Meta Portal Go. It's a battery-powered device that's designed for video chats with a much better screen and camera and far better speaker than the A8. It's also easier to use as it does fewer things. The camera also has face tracking so it can follow them as they move around.

          It also does Alexa and can display photos from FB albums, and run Spotify directly on the device.

          It also links with an existing WhatsApp account so you don't need to use a whole new WhatsApp account for the tablet like you would with the A8.

        - Far from being sharp

        Only plus side is the LTE/4G… but tethering is ready available nowadays… so wifi is sufficient.

        It works, and reflective of its price. Feel sorry for those footing out $4-500 for one.

      • Try putting in your order number via the Optus Chat bot, I find that the chat bot has more updated information than what is shown on the pending order status on the My Optus App.

    Have not received any further sms or email since first confirmation email. Chatted with with them before and they said just to wait for restocking to occur.
    I just went onto chat bot and typed 'order status [order number]' and 'yes' to confirm I wanted status of order and it said stock has been allocated and is being shipped to me. This has changed from when I chatted to them on 27/4 when the bot said it hasn't left warehouse. The Optus Startrack tracking still doesn't recognise the order number but from many posts here that doesn't seem to stop orders from being delivered.
    Hopefully it really is coming soon.

    Ordered 7pm 23/04. Delivered this morning. After being told three nights ago by Optus support that I would NOT receive the tablet as it's been put on stop sale, I received the tablet and sim card this morning. Optus staff are absolutely clueless. So happy it arrived, mainly out of spite

    I ordered on 25th late afternoon, so don't have any hope that I will get it as people who ordered on 24th are still waiting. Got a confirmation with an order no with "A", but status is still showing "pending". Online chat is all confusing, different answer all the time. New account/customer/Sydney

    But a very strange thing happened today, In one of my many browser, I can see that tablet was added to cart, and out of curiosity, I tried to check-out hoping that it will tell me that it's out-of-stock, but surprisingly it allowed asking me for details. I create a new account with my partner's details, and order went through with a confirmation order no with "A". very surprising as I was expecting that it will throw an error at one point in time as it's already out-of-stock.

    Not sure, if any of my 2 orders will be delivered, or both may, not sure.
    I just need 1 tablet, but now have 2 orders with "pending" status.

I bought my Wife the S8+ as a birthday/anniversary present and while they're obviously in completely different leagues; it's a very well built tablet and to me, at least, feels like a mini S8 lol. Could just be tablet envy speaking though.

    Placed order on 24th. 2 days ago inquired about the order on phone and they guy said no stocks so your order will be cancelled. But then offered me a higher plan at $20 - for which the stock will magically appear back. I refused and called again y'day and the other guy said yes, it will be delivered. Now today they sent me email that due to credit rating (very good which is) they could not put me on postpaid so the order stand cancelled. Well - I went back to check my credit rating and it dipped by 200 points because of this inquiry by optus. Why would they hard dip for just $240 total value. I am totally annoyed and they ruined my rating for such a silly tablet.

        Thanks. complaint to whom? credit rating agencies or optus? I was hoping to buy my first home soon and these bunch of idiots in the company have damaged that. I was planning to write to the local minister to ban companies for hard dipping into credit ratings for these small amounts. I have never defaulted, no crime clean records. Dont know why they do these stupid things!

            @T-man: It wouldn’t have been for no reason, they decided on you servicing the loan - you are going to have to go through a broker or a lower lender and pay more interest. Paying off little routine bills on afterpay or getting credit checked for a bullshit mobile plan doesn’t mean zilch to a bank - it’s what you owe and the repayments

    call Optus to complaint about it , they make you lose that much credit rating for only just $240 total value. , don't buy the story like they can't, ask about someone at high level, they will make it to put your points back, my case was made my credit rating from 820 to 739, but at the end my rating was back after I made complaint.

          • @T-man: When this deal was initially 12 months I was 2 months into a 12 month paid subscription. Told them I wanted to cancel and got the same response as you, told them I wanted to switch to 1 month subscription and they let me cancel.

      Same thing happened to mine after one day of use and the bloody thing wouldn’t turn on , at first I thought it was battery issues and then did a bit of research online and have to force restart it using the volume down button and the start button simultaneously and then it came back to life after rebooting .

      I'm personally keeping mine, but the thought did cross my mind initially to sell it cheap and make a quick buck. Got to find a way to make extra money somehow, so if an opportunity presents itself then by all means. If someone had stolen a tablet to sell it, well that's someone I would call a vile creature. But just for reselling a tablet from a promotion? Come on. I do however think there should have been a limit of one per customer or even household, to make it fairer for people who missed out.

        • $95 after cashback (assuming that cashrewards pay it). So even if you sold for $200 you're still up $105. If times are tough then I'd happily take $100+ for a small amount of work. Plus you still get the benefit of all that data. Heck I've made bank accounts and done minimum spends just to make $50 lol

              • @DemocracyManifest: It's a 12 month contract. It's $12.50/ month, confirmed because the first payment has come out and the second month amount is showing. The device discount of $44.04/month (the full cost of the device) for 12 months shows on the contract.

                If you don't cancel after 12 months it's $25/month ongoing. If you cancel within the 12 months you have to pay the remaining device fees (no discount). Other than that there's not really anything else that can be misread or any other catch.

  • After my email from Optus telling me it was on the way, never received any word from StarTrack. However, it showed up this morning. Considering a signature/id was required, I find it strange no notice was given. Anyway, can’t complain, many thanks OP for the deal.

    Got my tablet this morning, ordered 9pm 23rd, the only thing is I am existing customer but I have a separate account for this, i.e. the 30gb is not added to my current data pool!

    • Take this with a grain of salt as it came from CS, but I was told that all orders for this product/service will be processed as "new orders". I put in my order on 23/4 as an upgrade to an existing service, only for it to be converted to a new order on 25/4, which has pushed me back to the end of a far queue.

    • Unless all your plans are the new upfront direct debit plans they wont share data with this plan.

    It seems like Optus trying to fulfill the order on 24th and 25th now. I also received email about shipping information but no sms yet. Btw I ordered on 24th.

    I ordered on 23 and 24the and got the Order number ending with A. Nothing so far. Called 3-4 times and every time I was told that in 2 days.

    Final call today and they said there is no stock and they are not expecting anytime soon. It could be 2 weeks or 6 months.

    I asked them to cancel and reverse the check check they made on my credit file. It has gone down due to optus credit check. They said they cant reverse it and its as per the contract. I probably will have to take it further with the authorities.

    Yeah, they asked me if I would want my other number and numbers used by family ported over to Optus. Lol.. what a bunch of jokers.

      They did the same to me, I managed to get them to admit that orders are processed in chronological order and mine was out of stock when I placed it. Yet I have proof of people who ordered after me that received theirs so clearly it wasn't out of stock when I ordered. Told them to escalate my case to a higher level and threatened ombudsman since they are clearly not following Optus policies and aren't upholding their end of the contract. They asked me to not go ombudsman and will instead lodge my case with the same team that will deal with it if the ombudsman was involved. Told them they have a week to find me a solution or I'm going to the Ombudsman without notice. I have proof of every convo and (profanity) around they've given me. I'll bring them to their knees.

    I ordered 5am 24/4 and got an order ending with A straight away (& I have never been an Optus customer). I ordered 3 of 64GBs for me, wife and mum in 1 single order.

    Then a week gone by, had no hope so didn't bother to contact anyone at Optus.

    Then suddenly received sms a day ago saying it's shipped along with new mobile number comes with it. All 3 were processed at the same time, with different mobile numbers. StarTrack didn't see anything at that time though.

    So today I check again and it shows Onboard for delivery!

    Hope these info help - patience is the game.

          nah, it's 5 years per enquiry that certain companies use. Afterpay, optus, telstra, bank records but banks are more interested in real data you provide not some bullplop data collater.

    I ordered on 25th and got order confirmation with A in few minutes. I thought that I am late and reading all the comments here I was having strong FOMO…. and was in doubt that my order will go-through as it was showing OOS. Chat support didn't helped either to gain any confidence that order will be delivered.

    On 30th, one of my many browser cart was having this added, so even though it was OOS, the order went through (created a new account with my partner's details). I got order confirmation with anew order number with A in few minutes. I was very surprised that I was able to place order at the first place, and to ADD MORE to that the order date and time is exactly same to my first order (placed on 24th). I was damn sure that this will surely be cancelled.

    To my surprise, I got shipping confirmation for both of my orders today. Waiting for the delivery
    I only need 1 tablet, not sure what to do with the 2nd one.

    My order was around 6 pm 23rd. Confirmed on 27th. Lot of stories in between but lets ignore that. Today I got the SMS:

    "Hi, we're getting in touch about your new Samsung Tab A8 as there has been a delay with getting your new Tab to you. We're sorry for this delay but don't worry we're working hard on getting your new Samsung Tab A8 to you and we'll let you know when it's out for delivery."

    I am happy but excitement is going down with the long wait. And I hope its good enough to replace my old iPad Air. Don't expect same screen quality but similar or better performance and better speakers will be enough.

    Mine was delivered earlier today (128GB model). StarTrack delivery person asked for my ID before hand in it over and commented that he has been delivering lots of these today.

    Build quality seems OK although still doesn't feel as nice as my old Galaxy Tab S4.

    2/3 arrived today in WA with both ordered a few hours after this deal went up.
    1x 128gb (wife is super happy with it!); and
    1x 64gb (MIL hopefully will be happy when we gift it to her).

    All setup with the Smart Switch program, interface is a little laggy under load but when you think of the cost vs performance, you really can't fault it.

      Optus data plan sims can't make or receive calls if that is what you are asking.

      You can try putting a phone plan sim in it to see if it takes regular calls.

      Minimum cost is $498 over 12months unless you receive the device credit, which requires you to be connected to at least the $12.50 discounted plan…

    Received mine today- Star track driver was strict with needing to cite ID before handing over.

    First impression- looks pretty sleek, I haven't had a tablet for a while (last one was a Samsung GT-P7500 years ago which I was rather unimpressed with) and have not owned an iPad so can't compare. Added an SD card and did some updates, so far so good. I think I'll be using this mostly for browsing, YT and light gaming so really can't complain for the price!

      No, any unused data expires at the end of each payment cycle.

      You can just give it to someone to use - if it's someone you don't know I'd get them to sign a letter saying they are responsible for all the internet activity on that SIM number.
      Just in case they are doing something illegal, you want to be protected.
      It's not possible for someone to run up extra charges or use more data than provided, so it's very little / no risk.

        That's a clever PR move. Optus knows exactly how much data is unused by all their customers so they could donate it themselves, but doing it this way makes them look better I guess? :)

    Anyone else noticed the display has a bluish tint ? Any recommended apps to adjust display colours as not much in the device settings menu.

    Also grabbed this case from Amazon as it had next day delivery, fits and looks good, quite slim.
    Only issue on the one I've got is once table is inserted the small magnets don't hold the top flap closed, seems flap is just a smidge small.

        The bluish colour seems to be less noticeable on videos now I've used it for a few hours.
        Sound is loud, but seems reasonable to me for a tablet device. I just think of it as a $95 dollar tablet !

    I received my tablet with SIM card and an email saying the mobile service was activated but at the moment cannot use the SIM to browse the internet for example. Wifi works fine. Is there a setting in the tablet that needs to be adjusted?

    I have just reviewed the invoice you have sent and I can see that the payment method used and total amount paid are missing. While I am further investigating your transaction, it would be great if you could send through a copy of your complete invoice/order confirmation email from the store containing the payment method used, order date and total amount paid. The information mentioned is vital for our team to track down this transaction.

    What did Optus provide showing all this information. Basically I received an email with an order number and a contract. You don’t pay anything until Optus bill you. They will find a reason not to pay.

      • Yes. Optus don’t send you the information they are requesting. My order confirmation has an order number and the plan. It doesn’t even mention the tablet.

    • I first sent them the contract and they replied saying it doesn't show the order confirmation number and purchase date. They asked for the order confirmation email.
      I sent them the confirmation email I received from Optus (subject line is Your Order Confirmation #xxxxxxxxxxA) and Optus now shows up as Pending in my CR transactions screen. Hopefully it goes through!

    Ordered 2 of the 128gb around 10 on 25/04, but only got confirmation for one of the orders so I was resigned to just getting one, if I was lucky. On 2/5 got notification from Optus saying the tablet is ready for delivery but the order number ending in A is different to the one I got the confirmation email for. Nothing since then, I've been checking the Optus/Startrack website every day with both the order numbers and it had always come up as no order found. But this morning when I checked again they both came up and I just received them both! Thanks OP, I've been wanting a tablet for a while for the bigger screen but they're usually so expensive so this was perfect. Don't give up hope yet, people! I'm in Perth

  • Well just an update on my situation, I ordered 2 tabs in the 23 April and another 1 tab on the 24 April.
    I got the first 2 tab a week ago. But nothing on the 3rd tab, my order is still pending, submitted with a sim number attached to it.
    After a week of going back and forth with the online chat, the 1 agent told me to see if I can get it in store a Optus store and sign up to the full price $25. 12 month deal.
    Yesterday I called up 2 Optus store near me, and 1 of them had it. I signed up with them on the phone and got them to hold it until today to pick up. I just picked it up a few hours ago and went back on to the chat, told them to read my chat history and they have now applied the 50% off the sum deal.
    I also asked them to cancel my pending order.
    So now All good on my end.

    "yes that is also what I can see that is the last update it is showing the order must have not yet went to the warehouse it is stuck on the order list. I will raise a IT case so that it can be processed." meaning that something has stuck and it can be released by CS team if that's the case, I will continue to update later on.

    I have checked from my end and would like to apologies first for the delay that have happened.

    This product was on high demand that is why there was a delay in delivery.

    I would like to confirm you that you can expect the delivery within 3 business days and also I have prioritized your request as well so that you will not have to wait any more longer for this delivery.     Here's my first impression: coming from an ipad air 2, the a8 is very nice overall. Construction is decent, and that 80% srgb screen is good, speed is good. Im very happy with the purchase :)

    • Agree. It's was crazy sweet deal. Quick question though - do you notice a slightly yellow cast on the screen? Noted this on the left and right.

      Apart from that the screen is good. Viewing angles are totally acceptable. Colours are however (noticeably) less vibrant than I've come to expect. But all in a good buy.

      That said - would absolutely not recommend it at RRP or close. The S6 would be a better buy.

        Sounds like batch variations? Mine doesn't have yellow cast, the colour looks uniform across all area to my untrained eyes. it's a 128gb model, made in China.

    contacted customer service to correct the delivery address three times and even spelt it word by word on the optuse messaging app and they still managed to corrupt the delivery address. Called 133937 early in the morning on 2 days and their computer system was down. Promised to call back later in the evening but no, they didn't. Called on Saturday morning and the designated team is not open. Delivery failed and now my tablet is sitting in the warehouse about to be cancelled. So close yet so far. Just venting. Yes Optus? No….

    • Have the same issue. In certain areas of my home this Samsung tab is unable to pick up the wifi signal..but other devices can. I guess you get what you pay for.

  • I ordered 24/4 AM and still waiting. After talking to optus a few times about this, appears that my order was submitted and processed on 24/4 but didn't get "fully" processed and progress to a SAP order till the 27th. So even though everybody has an order number which ends with A, this doesn't mean the order has been submitted to a Shipment/Delivery Request in SAP. The SAP order number is what you track on the optus startrack website. I think this explains why orders appear to be allocated randomly but there appears to be some backend process that delays some orders for unclear reasons.
    How have people gone with ordering in store and getting the discount applied retrospectively?

                overly popular with deal, Galaxy Tab A8 were oversold and Optus placed order with Samsung but currently waiting for the Tab A8 and Optus will send SMS with tracking detail once they ship out the Tab.

    went into an optus store just to see if they had stock to get another and was prepared to pay $25/month for 12 months. (am impressed with tablet once spend the time on setup, screen colours etc)

      Bought one of these for $15 so not much. The quality is great and seems solid should provide sufficient protection if dropped or something. Well worth getting one for mine.

      the tablet is quite thin and a bit slippery to hold for me

      also there isn't much of a bezel around the display, so if your palms are resting around the edges or even if tablet is resting on your stomach it tends to interfere with the touch screen

        This reflect on the billing date, as confirmed by online chat, that the billing date is whatever my old service with Optus was, the 27th of the month.
        It keep saying on the app, 17 days to go.
        I activated bthe Sim and tablet in Friday the 6th.
        They used my old billing cycle for this one

    If any of you that are still waiting for Galaxy Tab A8 64GB after order on 24- April ,

    We need to be careful of their bait if really want to wait for getting this.

    When I inquire on WebChat few days ago,

    1. Optus CS indicated that this is out of stock and asked me if she can cancel the order.
    2. In next follow up next day, CS suggest to go with Galaxy Tab A7 with same price in 36 months - A7 they offer is 32 GB and 36 months instead of 12 months- Not a deal
    3. I had case officer and called me yesterday, suggest to go optus store and get the Tab and I was showing little interest and then he asked me if he can cancel the order -
      If cancel the order, can't order again and most of optus stores have no stock

    I know in the end, I highly likely will get the Tab as 8 out of 10 CS team member in Optus indicated that it's on order but no confirmed date of shipping.

    anyone who are still waiting, reply me below as I'm curious how many of us are waiting for this.

        Allowing the device credit on 12 months plan seems to be a mistake on Optus's part. Had a look at Optus's website today and for the devices with device credit such as the Samsung Galaxy A13 they have now only applied the device credit if you select 24 months or 36 months as the contract length.

              If a person manage to push through say three order. That is 90gb of data for 12 months at 37.50 which by itself is not a bad deal, then you get 3 tablet for three which sells for about $300 each. That is a nice deal for sure!

    I have the Tab A8 128gb arrive on the 3rd and iPhone 11 128gb sitting at post office now.

    Was paying Optus 72.50 a month and now for extra $628 (52.34 for 12 month) I am getting a New tablet and a new iPhone 11 128GB, that is almost 1.4K of gear at current market price. This must be favorite in contest to win my deal of the year follow by my $380 Bambino plus and $299 Fitbiz sense.

    Technically the Fitbiz was done at Dec 2021 but I wasn't using it till this year so counting that in🤣🤣!!

        I did a quick google of the two version and to me the 128gb was a no brainer (price difference). Granted I need Optus so like I said I am already paying them $72.50. The number can be different to those who don't need / don't want to be on Optus.

    So I initially ordered the tab on the 24th and got a temp order number, the service was an "upgrade" to an existing data plan.
    I called to follow up, and they put through the temp order without the tab…
    I called again to follow up about the tab, and they said it didn't go through, and then tested me for credit check.
    Meanwhile my data plan was upgraded.
    I "failed" the credit check.
    I put through another order, this time standalone for the tablet and it went through.
    So Optus lying to me about credit check…
    And initiated a contract only partially fulfilling an order.
    =/ Complaints team kind of hopeless as they can't tell me when my complaint will be resolved.

      I have a similar situation. Ordered on 24th at around 12:30 am.

      My order stock out from Optus warehouse on 3rd May.
      And checked several times to StartTack and Optus , said that they couldn't find my address????
      Last week StarTrack officer told me that I need to request the Optus to resend my item.
      Since it is still not delivered I contact the Optus chat and they said that I need to recheck my credit???
      And they request my id photos(driver license, medicare card) customer service will call me tomorrow.
      And not my previous which I have ordered on 24th has disappeared.

    I only ever rang Optus once last week and the lady did her best to get me to either cancel or upsell me an iPhone. Not sure how an iPhone is similar to a tablet?

    I think if your order hasn't been cancelled by now, it should arrive eventually.
    Obviously Optus ran out of stock.
    They would have placed an order with Samsung.
    Samsung doesn't have enough stock at its Australian depot.
    Samsung has ordered more to fulfill request. It is on its next shipment either by sea or air.

    Theres no point contacting help as they wont have access to the info above?

      I would have been happy with them to say it was on backorder. I had one chat say it will be delivered within 5 business days of the order, another said 24/48 hours it will be delivered and later on another said those two guys "assumed" it was in stock and it isn't.

      Won't bother chasing again but why shouldn't their helpdesk have access to that info, it seems straightforward enough, in fact they should change the bot to spit out a generic message if anyone enquires about these orders. I guess when you are a big telco you don't need to worry about that stuff :D

      I'm happy to wait and see what happens - the kids birthdays have passed now anyway!

    I am not a Optus user and placed an 128G version order on 1/5 from website.

    Received a bill $16.62 for 36 months for device before the device arrival yesterday. First they said there is no promotion for the device. After showing them this ads, they argue it is only for 64G version not 128G. I felt really disappoint for the Optus service.

    It is a big mistake forgetting to take the screenshot for the device.

    Hope someone helps to send me the screenshot or receipt to proof it.

      Your contract should mention the device credit. The contract should be attached to your initial order email.

      • This is the issue. The initial order email just lets me call the optus. There is nothing mentioned about the device. I provide the temporary order number in the order email but they still want me to show the evidence.

        They don't follow my initial order and that's why I need some screenshot/receipt to proof it. Really sad.

  • I am looking at the on going saga of this deal, I am assuming most of you are new non Optus customer and order the 64Gb?

    Seems a few of us who go for the 128G got the delivery? Also friend of mine who is also an existing Optus go for the 64gb got his too….

    Feels something actually went south with the Optus internal process as they keep taking order even when the actual item is OOS.

    I do wonder realistically how many people complain here are actually missing out because they need the device? Or just people complaining missing out because they want to make money by selling the device? If you are the later, go and take a quick look in GT and EBay and you will see how many are selling off their "gifts".

    i got email notification that my device would be delivered 4 days after ordering, then nothing.
    I did not get any notification or updates, but i checked in the star track tracking, it seemed the device was returned back to the sender/warehouse (early may update - no more updates in there after).

    chatted with support, they said the courier could not find my address hence returned the device back to warehouse, i confirmed the address and it was the same address in their system. what a bullcrap that they could not find my address..!!
    then, she said they needed to ask the back office to attempt to redeliver but no guarantee because from their stock level, this device is OOS, and they could not guarantee the device which was assigned to my order is still available for me. another bullcrap!
    why did i not get any notification or update about it? Instead I had to chase them up and now told the device might not be available anymore for my order, wtf! the process is broken.

    Anwyay she has requested the back office to redeliver but no guarantee I will get the device, and I just need to wait for updates from them.. not happy

        If you have the confirm email you can actually lodge a TIO complain.

        Go back to Optus and complain they cannot cancel a confirmed contract without you agreeing to it. Then mention you want to escalate this or you will lodge a complain to TIO.

        Crucial part is in any of the conversation, do not mention they should upgrade your device but tell them if they are out of stock, they should fullfill the contract with a device of equal value.

        Being as stingy as Optus, I suspect they will refuse. Then go and lodge the TIO complain. It is vital that you explain to them you are complaining releasing from contract without authorization. They don't get a lot of these and will ask you "They let you break contract, what's the issue?" Again do not say because they are back flipping on a deal. Just say you place an order and they want to release you from the contract because of fulfillment difficulty without offering an option for a device of equal value, so you refused as you want to stay in the contract.

        Many years ago Vodafone did the same with an iphone 4 deal (yes years ago) when the 4S came out. I did exactly the above and they have to sticky to the contract and end up shipping me a 4S. (Then they ship me the 4 when it was back in stock 🤣🤣🤣)

      Ordered a 64GB on 23rd April, was given a temporary order number.
      Optus called on 26th April, went through name, DOB, address, employer… and was then given an order number ending with an A. Was told that the order would be fulfilled within 3 or 5 business days (can't remember).

      Ordered a 128GB on 5th May, again was given a temporary order number.
      Optus called on 6th May, the lady was able to see that I have the 64GB ordered, and asked me whether I wanted both, to which I obviously said Yes, went through the same/similar details and was then given another order number ending with an A.

      Tried tracking the order via the link in the emails, both of them showing "Submitted" on the first page and "In Progress" after clicking the arrow on the right.

      There has been absolutely no updates from Optus. Looking at the recent comments may have to give them a call tomorrow just in case we have been "forgotten".

    • Friend ordered on the 24th April around 10am, arrived in Brisbane on Monday 23rd May. No contact was made either way after the initial online order.

    If you message Optus they try to trick you and say not why it's not being processed and if you want them to cancel and re-process

    then they give you the new rates which is a complete rip off

    • Noticed my status was changed to open from submitted, chatted to them and they said they need to re-process the order. I think they have just resubmitted mine. They didn’t mention anything about new rates etc. Mine is now submitted again

  • just an update some reason they auto cancelled the contract on 24/05/22 if anyone else would like to check with them

    have to call up and then ask for the contact to be reinstated they will ask you for licence, Medicare, employer details, position and how long you been living in the same house.

    most importantly make sure they confirm $12.50 a month for 12 months no more to pay

      • on app under order or Pending if you press Track My Order > track order it will say Cancelled or you do online chat and they will tell you as well or you can call up and they will also tell you

        it really sucks

        but best way is to call them and say they f'd up and to reinstate the contract

        obviously the device is in stock and they are making excuses not to fulfil it

        • Well I have a problem, my product is missing. Can’t see the Samsung tab there but rep reassured me that it will be delivered. I was able to see it prior the status being changed to open. Let’s see how it goes. Hope they start sending the device out soon. Have been waiting for so damn long

          Lucky I have my contract which clearly says no device payment for 12 months, but still going to have to talk to 'supervisor' tomorrow morning.

    What has been happened is, your the tablet you have ordered was out of stock due to huge demand and thus, it has taken more than usual time

    However, currently, the device is available in the stock and according to the latest update, I can see the delivery of the tablet will be done within 2 weeks

    It will be delivered to you with priority and 2 weeks is the maximum time

  • I just reached out through optus chat and asked them to send me the contract. They did that and the contract clearly says 12.5 data fee and 44.04 device fee per month for 12 months and 44.04 device credits per month as long as staying on the plan.

    I will try to contact them again and escalate as much as possible to get some actual answers. And complain to ombudsman if they still have no promise or intention to fill the orders. I encourage you to do the same https://www.tio.com.au/

      • Just like other people here, ordered 2 on 24 11:00ish and nothing delivered so far, the link in the confirmation email is dead, optus website and app kicked me out when trying to look at the contract, pending orders don't exist for a day and then recovered. I am just afriad that they silently cancel my orders and leave no evidence. Now I have the evidence.

    Just got a email to say my order is on its way.

    Ordered a 64gb on the 24th at 8am. previous customer

    When i check the order on the optus website still shows as submitted and the startrack site just errors still when putting in the order number.

    Hi all, order date 7 may. i went on live chat when the tablet disappeared off my order. the agent said it will be delivered soon and the order is still intact. that was about 2 hours ago. i just received an sms saying the order will be delivered soon and delivery partner will send an update. the service has been assigned a mobile number which is specified on the sms. also asking to show ID. FYI i am new customer and my account status is still pending.

    Got a message and email confirming it's on its way although no tracking details actually showing up yet… still not quite sure what I am going to do with it but I already had a SIM I am paying for and this reduces that cost for 12 months AND I get a free tablet/door stop.

    My Brothers family is all Android so maybe this will be a nice Christmas present for my Nephew if I can't work out some other role for it :D

    If I was still in the office with a permanent desk I would consider turning it into my wireless hotspot / photo frame…

      optus startrack site is not showing tracking for my order. Try using normal startrack site. Worked for me.

        Never received any notification from anyone about doing, but if I put my order number in the standard startrack track and trace it shows up as sent yesterday evening too.

  • Got my tracking number and says it will be delivered 30th. After a month of waiting and 2 live chats I wasn't overly optimistic but this is great news. For those that have receieved the tablet, do u get the sim card in the same package and just need to activate when you get it for optus to start charging you. Also what's a nice cheap case people are buying. TIA

    • Got both the tablet and Sim in one package but I do recall seeing some here saying that they received them separately.

      Delivery does require signature and ID and from memory I think the Sim was automatically activated within a couple of hours thereafter.

      I wasn't charged straight away only just received an email from Optus notifying of the upcoming $12.50 payment. Also don't forget to check out Sub hub for offers like free Amazon Prime for 6 months etc.

      As for a case this one is pretty good quality wise and fairly solid.

      • The problem here is part of the attraction of this deal for me was free Optus Sports (I was already paying for it).

        I can't just cancel the data plan or I'll be slugged the $44/month * remaining months as an early termination charge.

        So basically I'm gonna suck it up and pay ~$20 all up a month to keep Optus Sports but it seems a little bit of a stitch up to me. Still a good deal overall… And I could always cancel Optus Sport and keep just the tablet and the SIM plan for the $12.50.

          Yes, this crushes the deal for me. And I've finally got a delivery on the way - after more than a month of waiting - so I can't even cancel it. FML.

        • Do you know if you are able to cancel the Optus sport add-on from your plan? I added it just because it was free, but I can't see myself ever using it, so I don't want to be paying for something I'll never use.

            @XVX: Should be able to opt out of it from their subhub platform, but I believe you will get emailed with clearer instructions before the charges kick in.

            The point is for them to deliver the device to the person who signed up for the plan. If you bought a phone or tablet from an Optus shop you have to do it in person too, you can't sign up for someone else.

    Can calculate the predicted cost now: $12.5/Month x 12 = $150 - $55 (Cashback) = $95 - $10 (Amex Optus Offer) = $85 over 12 Months.

      There was a 24 month and 36 month option available if you wanted to pay more

      • 12 month term as the sim is month to month. The tablet is paid off after 12 months.

          Mine got activated by itself this morning, received a message & email from Optus about it. I haven’t even opened the SIM kit.

  • Anybody had any issues updating their device? I just sat down and was installing all my usual apps and then saw I had a system update and while carrying out the update, the phone stopped at about 80% and now it just boots to a green screen saying 'Security Error - This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software and is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support'

    Also has a little black box in the corner saying 'Binary Version Mismatch : Boot'

    Edit: I just tried entering download mode to flash the firmware manually with ODIN and I occidentally held power+sound down instead of up and it rebooted and began updating again and is now running as it should. If anyone else runs into the same issue, give that a go.

  • Was wondering if someone can assist me, i haven’t been able to sign in to my optus account for over a month, every time i try and sign in it says “sorry we’re having technical difficulties right now, so you can’t login. Please try again later” i can’t find a way to login to my account, is anyone having the same problem and know how i can login?

      • I have one, i used to be able to open the app and it would already have me signed in then one day when i opened the app up it was asking me to sign back in again, ever since then i haven’t been able to sign back in with that error always coming up

        • I deleted my app and re-installed it. Paired with my new number it had no issues.

      Exactly same for me. I sold my iPad 6th gen on marketplace for $275 when I got the delivery notification. The screen quality and user experience isn’t as good as iPad but at least get to use mobile data when on the go!

      Screen aspect ratio and sound is better for watching media on the A8, I've also switched from an old ipad (which had way better fingerprint unlock than the sketchy facial unlock on the A8).

  • Looks like Star track was busy yesterday delivering Tablets. Got mine yesterday, no notification from star track or optus that it was coming. And SIM hasn't activated yet. Not a real problem, I have to use the other 140Gb that I have on shared date yet. Looks like a lot of donated data for the next year.
