    "eBay must be desperate"

    FTFY :)

If so then bloody launch Plus tuesdays again.

Not only they'll get more money from sale of goods but more eBay plus signups too

    • +1

Sounds like they’re trying to encourage second hand purchases. That’s what eBay was until 5-10 years ago when it became a massive 2 Dollar shop. Can still buy some second hand stuff but in the minority. They’ve been trying to push people onto Gumtree (owned by eBay) for the second hand market.

  • +3

How pathetic eBay has become. If they don't change something soon they'll go belly up, not even their fake robo bidders and sky high seller fees will save them.

    • +11

Their fees may be expensive but I have had good luck selling on there so far. Definitely better than dealing with some crazies on both FB and gumtree. Cannot generalise also as some good folks are also there but ebay has been great so far. Sometimes I also got free sendle deals as a seller.

Also, by creating buyer rules, I can try to vet some of them and hopefully mitigate meeting the unscrupulous types.

Totally agree, their fees are outrageous and their support staff are absolutely useless, but as a marketplace it's far better than dealing with average Joe tyrekicker or lowballer on gumtree.

eBay sales are always silky smooth and easy in my experience, dealing with the odd issue with eBay support is the excruciating part for me.

        • +7

eBay support staff are probably the most incompetent in the world.
I would avoid using eBay at all cost now after the last experience.

@dji1111111: Same was asking for a ebay plus coupon for over 2months with 10 different customer staff agents.

            • @easylife: Not liking your chance there. My experience was a complete joke.
THEY emailed me enticing me to buy this item that was in my shopping cart using the 20% promo code that was active at the time (still had 3 days or something to go until expiry).
Next morning I decided to purchase this item and bought discounted giftcard to pay for the item then the code didn't work.

Contacted customer support and they assured me it will be resolved. After 3 days or so, they came back to me and said there were technical difficulties and the promo ended early but they have extended it for me and to try and apply the code and get back to them if I run into any issues.

Not surprisingly the code didn't work again and I contacted them again and I waited days including following up with multiple agents and they all said it has been escalated and to wait for a response.

Then out of the blue they issued me a complimentary $20 giftcard. I contacted them as I wanted the 20% promo code (worth close to 40 bucks discount). Then the agent told me this was a complimentary code issued as an apology for the inconvenience caused and that my original issue with the code is still being looked into.

Then days of no progress and talking to multiple agents just to be told to wait. Then finally they started changing their tune and said that $20 giftcard was issued as a resolution to my issue and to accept that and move on. One of them didn't even want to entertain the idea and disconnected the chat.

              Never again!

      • As a buyer, eBay can suck hard if you need support.

For a seller, I'm happy to give up my 12% fee if it means I can set up auto rejection for low ball offers.

The item is Fair priced, lower than the others and they still want it lower. They can f right off.

I still remember the day a guy was complaining $299 for too high for a flight sim that retails 500 because it cut into his "Bottle-O budget"

But it can only go up so far, if it keeps rising, Even the lowballers on gumtree would still give you more money than a 20% ebay cut in 2025.

I agree, ever since 2022 there has been alot of changes that affect ebay sellers.
Not only was the selling fee already to high they increased it to 13% which is ridiculous considering you lose 13% off your sale. Everyone agrees that ebay is greedy at this point, anyone know ebays turnover from 2020~til they changed selling fees and promos. I can ganrantee you that their turn over from when they changed it till now is under the average.

As a business perspective they completely went backwards into trying to encourage more people to sell on their service. Ebay is the most used online store in australia but i can see that changing in the near future, i haven't tried selling on amazon yet.

  • I like eBay it keeps ozBargain a competitive sport for a mystery egg for coupon codes for all the latest gfx cards that I don't need but want.

  • I have been reading for years that eBay wants to stamp out private sellers and second hand and just be an online mall.
Weird to see them promoting secondhand

    • +2

It's not weird at all because they definately don't want to remove private sellers.
Why on earth would this make sense ?

      • Cost to serve analysis because of complaints related to the second hand market.

      • I guess a more streamlined and professional mall with less garage sale junk? Perhaps as an answer to Amazon and Aliexpress?

    • +1

I would hazard a guess private sellers would still be contributing a lot to ebay’s revenue, but not as much as when they also owned Paypal and hence were clipping the ticket twice.

      • +2

They raised selling fees to at or around the equivalent of previous rates of eBay + PayPal combined after managed payments were introduced. ~13.5% fee now, when it used to be ~10.9% eBay fee + ~2.5% PayPal fee.

  • Pre-Loved Items

    Very suggestive 😋

      Also known as sloppy second-hand

Min spend $100. Really? Come on eBay.

  • I bought a used 2dsxl recently using this code. Haven't receive it yet.

    • if its been many days or even a week of nothing from the seller, just start disputing with ebay, its usually a clear win and refund for you since they can tell if they haven't posted it or not

  • +1

    No Deal Ebay.
    Min spend of $100…. please.

  • Time for me to burn some images of Jesus into cheesy toast again.

    • Savoury to the world?

      • Yes. And that midnight snack attack.

Last year my ebay plus trial expired . Was offered a $20 coupon to enrol so I did but never got that $20 coupon even after debating it with them . My plus has just expired and that coupon deal is appearing again . rrrr not good business etiquette ebay .
Pretty much everything via amazon now and superior by miles .

    • When amazon marketplace for private sales opens, eBay Australia is going to implode.

but not if they're just gonna match the % they take.

  • I'm sure eBay fees are actually 13.8%

I found a sort of loop hole for sellers well myself included to save a few dollars off eBay high commission fees,..

Simply join their Premium store subscription which I think is normally around $74.95 for the whole month (no contracts), this loophole actually helps someone that might have few stuff to sell, especially those with expensive stuff

The trick is to subscribe to a store towards the end of the month, example on a 30 day month (say April) subscribe 5 days before the end of the month (and important cancel the subscription as any subscription on the day you sign up, so you dont forget to cancel later)

So 5 days out 30 days is 17%, so your monthly fee will be only 17% of the fee of $74.95 p/m which equates to roughly $12.50 for part of April month

Yes your asking what only 5 days to sell, nope in actual fact its more like 15 days to sell,.. as condition of a store subscription to get store lower commission fees you must start you auction within the subscription period, in this case within those 5 days your subscribed, now if you start a 10 day auction on the 30th of April which is the 5th day of this 5 day subscription that auction will be treated as a store sale/auction and will be charged the store commission rate

And the sales commission for a Premium store is only ~7.26% (6.6% plus GST) compared to eBays usual normal rate of 13.8%, (nearly a 50% discount on commissions)

Edit: an eBay sales guy rang me out of the blue last night, the guy just started his job with eBay and strangely enough offered me a free 3 months store, now I'm thinking why I hardly make any sales at all cause stuff I sell is mainly my personal stuff (junk usually lol) but anyway he went on its a promotion eBay is offering to help sellers start off and increase sales, I said ok no worries is it ok if I take the Anchor store free for 3 months and yupz he said ok no worries

The Anchore store price is $549.95 per month

Best deal I've ever got for free better then the day I got 5 numbers straight in tattslotto and 6th number was one off (division 2 to many winners barely got $500 decades ago lol)

  • Buying ebay secondhand is bit like my lotto ticket recycling bin . Living in WA also means auspost uno 1day hopefully then postie may card ya rather then deliver . Express post is the only way to go over here but obviously at ^$$ - normally max 3 business days vs 2 or 3 weeks from over east . I'm a 95% Amazon convert now especially with prime video its a ba ha gan !

    • Never any issues with buying secondhand on eBay well so far better then Gumtree / FB market place the trick is too always buy off 100% perfect positive rated eBay sellers, ones that are more selling privately stuff as with me I would never risk my perfect 100% positive rating selling second stuff that has hidden issues to buyers

Anyway yes Amazon is great has other features eBay will never match like same day delivery and yes the deals they have on sale items are great too,.. but eBay offers great deals also,.. one just has too spend the time finding them and that applies to both Amazon and eBay, using Ozbargain saves a lot of time finding these deals for both,.. dare I say most big deals found are through thanks to Ozbargainers

Anyway I use both eBay and Amazon they both have there good and bad points to use, having both gives one more options too find more deals

  • Seems like this doesn't work anymore :(
