Waiting for the half price as in Korea.

    • +76

yeah but korea is in half too so that's the price to pay

      • +10

        Oof brutal

      • waxit please, it would be a blessing lol.

      • +1

WA and SA can duck off too so we can get half price

    • isn't that only the base S22 because only the base S22 doesn't have the vapor chamber that allows the S22 to effectively cool itself?

the S22+ and S22 ultra don't suffer from the same throttling issues (at least to the same degree?)

  • +4

    Same on Government store

  • +1

    No bonus for trade in

    • ye i think trade in offer is better at the moment too ($500 bonus)

      • +1

Where did you see this? I can't find at all except for on the standard site

        • Trade in is only on the regular site, that's what they mean.

  • Damn, I got the 512GB for $1719 from a previous deal. Worth buying the 1TB and trying to resell the 512GB?

    • +2

no not really, unnecessary hassle. If or when it comes to the point of needing more storage, you can get an external 1tb ssd for 100-120, hook that in and quickly transfer data whenever you feel like it.

512 itself is hard to finish unless you're recording 4k videos every single day and have nowhere to move it to.

      • +2

Great idea, thanks. I'll just stick with what I've got đź‘Ť.

      • 300gb used on my 512gb s21 ultra. It's only been 6 months so far

        • Wtf, what took so much storage

    • -7

How are we supposed to know whether the 1TB is of use to you? Since you happily bought the 512GB, clearly you felt that it was enough for your needs.

Either way, I would expect you’ll take a bath on the phone you’ve got.

  • +1

Its sad that the zoom camera is not on the plus. The Ultra is too expensive.

    • +6

The really sad part is when you track the Android Ecosystem, at least in Australia, throughout the years, and you note which was the premium device of that era and the cost. Then you adjust that for inflation.

      2008: $400 ($520 infl) - HTC Dream
      2009: $600 ($760 infl) - Motorola Milestone / Samsung Galaxy S1
      2010: $500 ($620 infl) - Samsung Galaxy S2
      2011: $800 ($960 infl) - Samsung Note 1
      2012: $600 ($710 infl) - Samsung Note 2
      2013: $700 ($800 infl) - Samsung Note 3
      2014: $800 ($900 infl) - Samsung Note 4
      2015: $900 ($1000 infl) - Samsung S6+
      2016: $600 ($660 infl) - ZTE Axon 7
      2017: $900 ($970 infl) - Samsung S8+
      2018: $1500 ($1600 infl) - Samsung Note 9
      2019: $1200 ($1300 infl) - Samsung S10+
      2020: $900 ($930 infl) - Samsung S20fe
      2021: $1400 ($1500 infl) - ASUS RoG 5
      2022: $1000 ($1100 infl) - Google Pixel 6

      • +7

        And remember, 2022: $1700 ($2500 rrp) Samsung S22 Ultra

…meanwhile, it's not even the "undisputed" winner as it makes plenty of compromises (durability, headphone, microSD, etc etc) and so it has plenty of alternatives that compete against it. The most competitive device on that list, basically without compromises, and undisputed for its era was the Samsung S2 which launched in Q1 2011. And it only cost $620 adjusted for inflation, which also makes it one of the cheapest yet. The market has gotten worse in both directions (you pay more, you get less).

Keen eyed people would have noticed a trend, that dating back from the 2008 Google G1 phone and all the way to 2014's Samsung Note4-Exynos, each device that succeeded it was superior AND it didn't have to make any compromises. There were some notable compromises with the Samsung S6+ (no microSD, only IP66), Samsung S7+ Exynos (fragile glass body), and ZTE Axon 7 (no IP67)… however they were okay. The real downgrades and compromises came from 2017-to-2022. This comes as the Android Ecosystem tries to emulate the pricing and design of Apple, simultaneously losing great competitors in Sony, LG, and neglecting others (eg OnePlus).

This list is not perfect, as I've rounded figures to the nearest $10 increment. I threw the S20fe in there, but it seems out of place. I gave the 2022 Title to the Pixel 6 although that is out of place too. So if you're viewing this for the trend it makes sense to ignore those two data points.

        • +2

Totally agree, I got the p30 pro in 2019 for 1100 bux. It’s still so good. The only better phone I can think of as a worthy upgrade are Chinese phones for around 1000 bux unfortunately.

  • Ordered from the education store in March. Phone never arrived after almost a month and had to cancel. Not worth it.

  • +1

Just an FYI. Samsung online is awful to deal with. Wish I knew prior to my online order. Long waits, check their reviews before ordering. It goes against every Ozbargainer but sometimes an offer is too good to be true.

    • This hard out…. The constant holds while on the phone for simple tasks and checks…. Worst call centre

      • +1

Apparently they have issues with their phones..
        At the call centre.

        • +2

They do this weird thing with sending you a message with weird link, and tries to collabrate between call and website by asking you to fill all the details, AND then connecting you with the operator. It's pretty hit and miss, like my love life, mostly miss.

  • +1

I bought mine from the education store as part of the pre-order before launch and received my burgundy 1TB S22 Ultra about a week after others who ordered the 256GB version received theirs. No issues, really nice phone. Pricing-wise, the price in this post is similar to all the discounts I received by jumping through the hoops and taking advantage of the $200 accessory discount bug before they fixed it.

  • +1

Still using the note 20 ultra snapdragon. Working fabulously
Hongkong one. Way too expensive for s22 ultra

  • +1

    Any S21 Ultra bargains yet

    • JB got one two wks ago. 1249 or 1449?

      • +2

Was hoping for cheaper by now

    • You can have mine if your name is referring to the nippy Croatian.

Avoid the phone btw, the issues aren't just anecdotal

  • +2

Slightly cheaper for all bar 1TB on the Commbank Staff EPP - not sure if this applies to others. There is a banner about a 5% off Mother's Day sale, but the difference doesn't equate to 5% so who knows:

    S22 Ultra 1TB $1719.20
    S22 Ultra 512GB 1611.65
    S22 Ultra 256GB $1499.25
    S22 Ultra 128GB $1386.75

    also…

    S22+ 256GB 1236.75
    S22+ 128GB $1161.75

    S22 256GB $1011.75
    S22 128GB $936.75

    • +3

But then you have to work at the bank.
And earn 5% less each year

    • Ordered S22+ 256GB 1236.75 ..still processing for last 1 week. Almost want to cancel and order entry level ultra for another $150

  • +2

I can't believe that people pay almost $2,000 for a phone!

    • +1

      I know. Right?!

    • +1

People are happily paying $3k for computer parts these days sir!

      • Ahh yes, that's another thing that is insane. My PC is 10 years old and still solid as a rock with windows 11 and can play every new game. I will not pay more than $500 for a video card, but now some people are buying $3,000 cards. Craaaazy.

        • +1

          I bought a $2800 3090.
I made nearly all of that back on mining, and now have a fairly decent GPU for the next 5 years. It's not that crazy.

          • @AFAR85: mining in 2022? Aren't you a bit late? I used to do it in 2009 with a radeon 9780 i think and that card was only $300.

            • +1

@9hundred: Nah bought in early 2021. But I was a little slow to the mining thing as I started in May.

          • +1

@AFAR85: Agreed, I made back the price of my launch day 3080 in only 86 days of mining, electricity cost during that period for mining was only $87.

    • +2

It's unfortunate that flagships cost this much now - that said, mobile phones are arguably the most important piece of technology that most people own.

I don't think most people need an Ultra or an iPhone Pro Max, but if you're into photography/videography or just like having the nicest things, it could be worth it.

      • +1

If you're into photography/videography… you don't use a smart phone.

    • iphone/apple

  • Anyone had success with asking vouchers from Samsung chat?

    • +1

no luck or at least I couldn't get any for EPP or student portal

      • I also tried. No vouchers available i was told

        • yeah same

    • +1

Nothing for student portal, even when moaning about how the trade in bonus only applies to the standard site.

  • +1

will wait for 256gb <$999, till then will keep loving note 9

    • same here <3 the note 9

  • black is sold out

  • +1

Using mine now. It's a great phone. Haven't had a single issue. Everything works flawlessly, unlike the Pixel 6 Pro I had.

    But…

    This phone is heavy.

I just got an iPhone 13 Mini for work and I love the size and weight. Not sure I'll ever go the top dog phone. Whatever is lightest is the one for me.

  • +1

Oneplus 10 pro maybe the go

  • Damn preorder price was $1900 with Samsung care

  • Good luck getting Samsung Care Plus. Mine still hasn't been activated and I purchased the S22 Ultra as part of the initial pre-order promotion some months ago. Samsung has the worst customer service for such a large global company. When parts of it are outsourced to their partners like Asurion it gets even worse - things just fall into a black hole. Buyer beware.

  • +2

Anyone seen any deals on the S8 Ultra Tablets. On 'sale' at Harvey Norman, but I just can't bring myself to shop there

  • Woah, 1TB Smartphone. I remember years ago 32GB was considered more than enough. @@

  • +2

Another opportunity to get the 1TB upgrade if you can't access the Education Store.
If you bank with Westpac, through their Samsung partnership the offer to upgrade is also available ….. "Upgrade your storage to 1TB for the same price as 512GB! Hurry, offer ends 31.05.2022. T&Cs apply".
However, the price is higher $1826.65
When logged on, select Rewards & Offers tab, scroll down and add more offers until the Samsung offer appears.
Note you can purchase using someone's details through this portal and use their method/card for payment, including PayPal, I've done it and it works.
    Other prices:
    128 $1571.65
    256 $1699.15
    512 and 1TB $1826.65
    Free Samsung Care+
    Trade In available
Black 1TB is out of stock

  • So I went with this, but got double charged, its a single invoice and my Samsung orders show one phone order.
    Anyone else have this problem?
Its the weekend and a public holiday tomorrow.

    • wut

      • I ordered one of these phones.
        They took my money twice.
They are only sending me one phone.

        • sounds rough, not sure how to resolve except samsung online store or drop in a samsung store and get their assistance
