Just a heads up, I think there needs to be price in title :)

  • Is this the 3/32gb or 4/64gb version?

    • +1

4/64gb seems to be nationwide got 1 in Qld

      • Does the phone have dual sim slots?

        • +3

          Carrier locked phones never do.

          • +4

@thefinalproblems: They may have the slots but not the right firmware. Given this one has a dedicated SD card slot its probably doesn't have a suitable SIM tray. SIMs trays can be replaced and there is a suggestion elsewhere that the firmware can be changed in Oppo phones. The bottom line is don't rely on being able to gain dual SIM support from a carrier phone.

  • So it's technically $19 for the phone. How much does unlocking cost?

    • +8

If you or someone you know has a post paid plan with Optus you can get on live chat & ask for it to be unlocked for free.

I did this once & they didn't even ask why, but if they do just say something like you are going overseas for a holiday & want to use a local sim.

    • +2

      The phone is unlocked

    • +1

Only if you would pay full price for a starter kit. I think you can get your OzB membership revoked for that. The SIM starter is worth maybe $5-$10. Optus's official word on unlocking is here in case the phone you purchase turns out to be locked. Sometimes not every batch is locked. Optus phones can typically be used on their MVNOs without unlocking.

    • +1

So it's technically $19 for the phone.

Given that the Optus $30 SIM packs are regularly available for $10, I see it as $39.

    • Fair enough. Practically it's more like $39 phone ☺️

  • +1

how many were in stock ?

    • +1

2 left when I asked them .. not sure how many left now …!

  • 4/64gb. Cheers mate got myself last one from Victoria point qld

    • +2

Will buy it from you for $75, 50% profit?

  • -6

Got one from mq Centre NSW. Why no one mentioned it’s micro usb b plug. Ewwwww. Ancient

    • +7

It appears as though you didn't google it before buying.
It's mentioned in this review & on GSM arena.

    • Horrific!

Are you concerned about it recharging?

Can you still make and receive phone calls?

      And how about data?

  • +5

Just grabbed one from Balgowlah. Was still showing as $199 but scanned at $49, they seemed to have a bunch left

  • Can you unlock this without talking to Optus? I don't have Optus contract so if I can pay someone to unlock then worth it.

    • +3

      The phone comes unlocked

      • +1

Phone is locked to Optus network so how do we unlock to use with other network?

        • +2

Seems to be unlocked already. Tried to unlock this morning and receive the msg. This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device.

          • +1

@GashyD: Thanks, just curious how can we unlock if we need to as there is always something on deal but locked phone?

Every Woolworths closed in Sydney for some unknown reason :(

      • +2

It is definitely locked, put in a vodafone sim and no go.

      • +3

        Mine is definitely NOT unlocked.

        • LOCKED crew unite!

          +1

          • +1

@Charlie Dont Surf: Looks like Optus phones - always - some batches are locked and the others are not. This is getting exciting ;-)

            • +1

@djoz: I've purchased 2 and receive the msg when trying to unlock via Optus. This mobile device is not a locked Optus prepaid mobile device.

              • @GashyD: Need to put a Vodafone/Telstra sim in as Optus site always says unlocked.

  • +2

How can we check online (rather than going in-store) which stores have stock?

    • +2

Tried checking online but shows no stock. Went to the nearest woolies and it's available. Take note that I also tried calling prior to heading out but none of the woolies store around me within the 3km radius answered so I just tried my luck and went out.

      • Thanks. Do you know how many were left at your store?

        • +2

The staff said stock is very low, I'm pretty sure she was interested too when it scanned for $49

        • +3

I reckon tonight is the best time to grab one before they close. Some woolies store doesn't display the phones in the counter just like the one in my area (Strathfield NSW)

  • +7

The bloke that was before grabbed the last one!
    F$&@!!!!

    • +4

Sounds like an impromptu OzB meet-up. Sweet!

  • +2

Good price for a phone with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM. Should have excellent battery life too.

My only issue with it would be the abysmal processor, but for $49 it's a good value.

  • is this a good phone to be easily rooted and load custom android roms?

    good for 7/11 chopper?

    • +1

For me iOS is the easiest chopper. My ancient iphone 5s still works for chopper, no jailbreak required. Same for my friend’s iPhone 12.

      • You need a laptop though right

  • Does the phone have dual sim slots?

    • +5

It may have the slot but won't work because prepaid phones are never dual sim.

    • No

  • +3

Only 1 gripe, the screen a bit no responsive. Maybe, it's only mine. Otherwise, it's an excellent phone.

  • +1

Got mine just a couple of minutes ago. The staff doesn't even know its on sale and was surprised when it scanned for $49. Not USB-C but for the price I'm pretty satisfied.

  • +1

i saw that online today as well but for some reason their stock checker doesn't show any stores. clicked on other random phone and stock checker worked.

$49 for a [new] phone with nfc is a steal.

    • +1

Were you able to eventually check for the stock for this phone, though?

  • comes with Android 10. so i think its upgradable to Android 11 as they usually give you 2 years of updates. the big question is will it actually receive android 12?

  • MediaTek MT6765G Helio G35 (12 nm) is a bit slow but it has nfc so a good budget phone. would Big w, kmart or target price match since its on clearance probably not?

    • +1

Are any of them known to price match? If so, try showing them the web page rather than the clearance sticker.

    • +4

I've done this successfully once at Kmart and once at Officeworks for other items. I just pointed out to them that no where on the site did it state that it was a clearance item, merely a sale item. Works the odd time.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got one. Forgot to check remaining stock, sorry.

I almost bought the Vodafone moto e7 the other day from Big W but the clock turned 12 as I was about to click on the payment so I didn't proceed lest the 25% CashRewards cash back offered until 12 would turn into a pumpkin.

For anyone who misses out the moto e7 power currently $99 at Big W is probably the next best thing now. Almost identical in spec except lacking in NFC but comparing gadgetguy's reviews it looks to have better camera AI. Gadget Guy doesn't rate the AI in the realme at all while the moto e7 he says produces "quite acceptable" results. The moto e7 is also available in a "power" variant which refers to the larger capacity battery but otherwise has reduced spec for the camera, memory and flash without offering longer run time. That's $69 from Big W. Vodafone itself has upped the price to be the same for both variants for reasons best known to themselves. I think moto boot loaders can be unlocked. I don't think realme/Oppo bootloaders can be but custom roms are unlikely for both of them. 3rd party unlocks look to be easier to find for the e7 but according to jairichi above his phone was unlocked.

I think this is a reasonable price for the phone. FWIW gadgetguy rated both the unlocked e7 and this as excellent value for money at $199. In fact, the e7 scored half a point higher on value for money.

    • +1

Thanks but NFC is what makes the realme c21 special

    • FYI

      Vodafone e7 99bucks at woolies
Vodafone e7 power 69 bucks at woolies

Optus c21 realme 49 bucks at woolies

  • This would be a great phone for the oldies, especially with that battery.

  • +3

    Pricematched at KMart. Thanks OP.

  • -5

This phone still has the micro usb charging?

I bought the UNLOCKED LG LG K51S 64GB - $99 exactly one year ago
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/618580

    • +5

Not sure what that deal has to do with this one. It has less RAM & a smaller battery.

Some specs were better but it's a 1 year old expired deal that was double the price.

    • 49 < 99

  • DUAL SIMs WORK or only one sim work?
Since this phone is unlocked (to Optus), come with dual sim tray/slots, but manufacturer may made the TRAY only support one sim,
any one try to put in working DUAL SIMs TRAY from other phone to work on this Realme C21?

    • People have just yet got the phone. Some of them are still searching. Expecting to push in an alternate SIM tray with both slots available is a bit too much at this point in time. Maybe wait for some more time.

Also, the firmware would show only one IMEI, and so, only one SIM will work. Dual SIM phones have two IMEIs. Anyone having this device, if they may confirm in the 'About Phone' if it shows one IMEI or two? That would probably most likely confirm if the second SIM would work or not.

  • Thanks OP! Bought the last from Woolworths Town hall@ Sydney which is fortunately open today.

  • where do they keep phones in woolworths? which section?

    • +1

      Hey s26f84,

They're usually kept behind the desk at the cigarette / information counter.

    • +1

Customer Service. They keep them in cupboards out of sight.

  • I've read all the comments about the phone being unlocked, but can someone kindly confirm that they've inserted a Woolworths Mobile/Belong Mobile SIM into this phone and that it works? Thanks in advance.

    • +2
    • +4

It is locked to optus. Tried Vodafone sim, no go.

      • Thanks. Still a good deal for those of us who churn across Amaysim, Kogan etc deals on here for a spare handset. But not a ball-bursting bargain, if it was truly unlocked.

Off to look for one at Subiaco!

    • Woolies Mobile / Belong / Boost / Lycamobile and Telstra Sims wont work in Optus Prepaid phones. This is because the 850 Mhz band is removed in these phones and since you wont get VoLTE (yet) on this phone using any of Telstra or its MVNO Sims, its pretty much not of use with these networks.

If you are able to obtain an unlock code, you may use it with Vodafone and any of its MVNOs (Lebara, Kogan, Felix, etc.)

      • +2

It's there on the Optus product page under specifications.

        3G Network Bands (in MHz) 850/900/2100 (B1/5/8)
4G Network Bands (in MHz) FDD: 2100/1800/850/2600/900/800/700 (B1/3/5/7/8/20/28)
        TD: 2600/2300/2500 (B38/40/41)

        • +1

Yup, in the bottom under Terms and Conditions of every Optus prepaid phone. With these deals on Optus phones and amaysim being a very good operator (for long term use, not sim hopping), I've accepted the facf that I may jot be able to use Telstra and its MVNOs in the near future.

I'm wondering if we would get VoLTE if using an Optus Sim (not MVNO) in this phone.

        • +1

My bad. I think for this phone, they havent removed it but in the past it used to be mentioned in their phones that the 850 Mhz band is removed.

    • +4

Phone was unlocked out of the box. No need to pay extra to unlock it. Was still unlocked when Firmware was upgraded to 2.0 and from Android 10 to Android 11. Works with Belong (Telstra) SIM.

    • +2

My works with Belong straight up.

  • +2

Managed to get unlock code free from optus chat. Haven't opened the phone yet.

    • managed to get one.. Optus chat is asking accou t number or service number for unlock! I am not with optus. any way around it?

      • +1

Use the included sim to create an account then get the unlock code?

  • Grabbed one, thanks OP :)

Just curious, the store ticket (before scan) says $199, is it really worth that much?
