It's a good deal, but if you want to use it to play files I'd suggest spending a little more for a model with WiFi support. I wish I had; the WiFi dongles cost as much as the device (for this pioneer, the dongle RRP is $149). Blu-ray players can be a great alternative to digital media players provided they have the connectivity.

Agree that if you want WiFi, buy it built in as the adapters seem to cost as much as the unit, in all brands. For me I use a wired network for units like this.

  • That's a good price. It dooes need an optional dongle if you require wireless.
Can anyone confirm this supports NTFS formatted USB devices?
My Sony BDP-S770 only supports FAT32 which is a pain.

      Yes. It does.

      • Good to know.

  • Wonder if this does MKV ?

    • I think it does. Yet to be confirmed though. Will come back with the result.

      • It does to an extent. Apparently not Full HD resolution though.

        From this link:
"BDP 140 Pros: Plays wide range of files - mkvs with subtitles, 3d mkvs, m2ts, avchd, divx, avi, vobs, pal-dvds, flac - renamed to mp3, sacds, backed up sacds, accepts ntfs drive, excellent picture/sound quality, learning remote and many other specified in the previous posts.
Cons: no xvid playback, only 4 internet apps (havent tried netflix). youtube interface could be better. no pqls
Haven't tried to play isos. The user manual says it wont play most of the ones i listed above. but it does play."

        • Haven't tried full hd playback, Simply coz I don't have any to play. Tried 720p mkv and it was perfect.

  • I still have mine from this deal… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68551

Undecided on whether or not to keep it as a standalone player or sell it with the speakers. Already have a BR player in my media centre. Hmmm…

    • Honestly, i dont really think its necessary.

      • Fair call. Guess if i sell both BR and speakers it'll make the AMP that much more of a bargain ;)

  • I would much prefer to have the Samsung E5900 (as it has built in Wifi) from the good guys with 20% off gift card, it comes to $160.

    • I'm yet to see how much use a WiFi connection is for streaming functions.

Have you seen the update with photo of the clearance tags?

Even if most Woolworths have them for $16.79, you are more likely to call into Woolworths than Joyce Mayne…plus they're not nationwide.

    • No Woolworths around me had for those cheaper prices. Wish I'd been as lucky as others, but good luck to those who did.

Only grabbed these as I saw then when waiting for a cashier to pay for the blu-ray. Thought it was worth mentioning anyway, even though not the absolute cheapest.

  • Can confirm unit plays multi-region DVDs. Even plays VCDs! Supports Blu-ray 3D and a whole bunch of standards.

Overall, I think it's a better Blu-ray and DVD option than my fat PS3, especially since the latter can't bitstream HD codecs to my Pioneer VSX-S300.

The unit is let down slightly by inconsistent front panel graphics and remote control (compared to my Pioneer AV receiver) and lack of a cheap Wi-Fi option. Will be more useful once I get it on the home network adding DLNA and iOS remote control.

I also like how it's a relatively thin design.
