Bonus $40 eBay Voucher ($40.01 Min Spend) with 1-Year eBay Plus Subscription ($48.99)

933

This deal is unofficially back, not sure if this classifies as an error.

The banner on the landing page says "$20 eBay Plus Voucher" for signup. Upon sign up, I got the $40 voucher right away.

Make sure you copy the code and store it somewhere, I didn't receive the code in an email. Just the landing page after signup shows the voucher. Proof of voucher that I received

YMMV - I also attempted at double-dipping the cancel voucher. This works best when your current eBay Plus membership is about to expire.

Basically, based on fellow ozbargainer's experience before, I did the following:

  1. Fake attempt to cancel your current subscription.
  2. During various pages, I got offered $30.
  3. I took the offer and the cancellation process is over.
  4. Go through the cancellation process again and complete the cancellation request.
  5. Wait till your current eBay Plus membership expires.
  6. Go to the link from this deal and sign up again. The landing page said $20 voucher to me as well, but I ended up getting the $40 voucher.

I am yet to receive the $30 gift card. I will report back when I do.

EDIT (7/04)
I have received my $30 gift card too, for $48.99 renewal fees, I received $40 voucher and $30 gift card!

  • Have to use voucher in 1 month?

    • Yes

      • Thx. The pressure!

        • +2

Make sure you use it all in one transaction

          • @bird380: Your right, they might not spend the $40 with the 40+ minimum spend. Lol

            • @abjsdhasehasee: didn't aware of the $40.01 min spend. As in the previous year, there is no min spend to use this voucher.

              • @bird380: Probably a good thing, previously people were confusing it with a gift voucher and making purchases for a few dollars and losing all the remaining credit.

        • +1

And can't use in conjunction with any other ebay codes

  • +1

The double dip failed for me last time. But might have been me.

    • It still worked last month.

  • +1

Can somebody else confirm this please?

    • One month or no other codes? Both true.

      • and min $40.01 spend

  • Nice thanks OP

  • Sweet, went along with the cancellation and got offered the $30 voucher when it renews in August.

  • err my sign up voucher expired :(

    • How long you didn't use it for?

  • Hey everyone are yous cancelling you eBay plus through the mobile app? As I don't see the option to cancel oraybe I've already canceled in the past

    • No, I couldn't cancel eBay plus membership with my phone

  • +1

Used to be $50 for signing up for $49 plus $30 glitch…

    • +1

I'm sure the $50 voucher will come back when there desperate lolz

  • can you combine this voucher with a coupon code?

    • Nope.
Its not a giftcard code, so it wont work in combination with other vouchers/coupons.

  • +10

Unless you plan on using your voucher within few days of it being issued it’s not worth it as the voucher will expire before the expiry date. This is from my personal experience and eBay customer service will tell you. “It’s your problem, you should have used the voucher earlier”

    • +8

      Scummy feeBay

    • ask Cisco to give you a raise lol

  • +2

screw ebay plus it doesn't hold a candle to Amazon Prime.

    • +5

If you can't save $10pa with eBay Plus, then you should turn in your OzBargain membership card.

      • +1

save 10 bucks on a rubbish service on ebay. Have you seen what Amazon prime offers? it has a video streaming service, a free pc games service, twitch drops enable free dlc and extras to games. AND you get free delievery, free over night delievery and 10 dollar 4 hour same day delievery. As well as free books and the best Customer service you can get in the same space. What does Ebay plus offer? a 10 saving pa? and nothing else? lol yeah good luck on selling that. Ebay will never be able to match amazon prime.

        • +12

I don’t know why it’s an either / or equation here. I get both and save buying through both, way more than their respective membership costs.

        • +8

I have both, but eBay definitely has its place and often has unbeatable deals.

It's good to have both if you can justify the membership costs.

          • -2

@TEER3X: obviously you have never seen Amazon prime days. or amazon price drops they destroy anything ebay offers

            • @kungfuman: I've been an amazon prime member for almost 15 years, with 3 of those here in Australia. I also used to buy from amazon when they just sold books.

          • +1

@TEER3X: Ebay barely scrapes through for me.

If they allowed coupon stacking with the $50 and $5 codes it'd have some value. Or erase min spend limits. Without that the $50 is worth $35 and the $5 nothing.

Their recent $5 off $15 is a step in the right direction but I'm still finding it useless for anything but a big order of low cost items.. Which I'd only need once a year tops.

Or they could just do regular free FVF promos, that'd fix the value issue too.

          • @TEER3X: Can you give a few examples? If I can join eBay plus and it pays itself off sure I'll try it

        • +3

          calm down buddy

        • +1

Both are better than Kogan only giving free delivery to metro. What a joke.

        • The key thing is returns. Amazon returns are crazy simple. I returned 2 items in the last 2 weeks man it was so simple

      • +1

Obviously you've never used prime ;-)

      • +4

Or save $49 by not paying eBay plus at the first place

  • +1

Can confirm the process works. Had eBay Plus a few years ago and let it expire. Just signed up again using the link from this post, which indicates a $20 voucher. Received the $40 voucher after payment. Thirty day expiry. Haven't used the voucher yet.

In this case, worth it alone for the extra 2% discount on the PAPR17 code.

    confirmation message

    • -2

wow a whole 2% I will be going back to amazon now and get 50 to 90% of stuff most days then.

      • +2

In this case, it's an item that Amazon doesn't have or has never dropped the price on.

  • +9

Ebay refused to honor my offer. Then they said they will no longer answer my emails regarding this (I was not rude to them at all).

If they don't give you the voucher, or if there is an issue with redeeming the voucher, they know there is nothing you can do about it.

I noticed on the NSW Fair trading page, Ebay has been on the high complaints list each month for a long time. Others come and go, but Ebay is constantly there.

(People have said that I am anti Amazon in the past for posting grievances, but Amazon were not on the high complaints list released by NSW Fair Trading).

Reading this post, I can see I am not the only one that has been unfairly treated.

    • +1

yep this is another reason Ebay customer service is just crap they do not care or honor any deals. They just want you to pay.

    • +1

I concur. Never received my $30 "please renew eBay Plus" voucher.

Ebay customer service say it's being looked into and give out the chat reference numbers but nothing ever happens (nearly 4 months now).

I have the screen shot, but not the voucher.

      • +2

exactly what eBay does, email game, that lasts often longer than a few months.

    • +2

I was trying to lodge case over fair trading but looks not much help. called their 1800 just disconnected after welcome. can't see any effective way to raise complaint.

    • +2

Yes same they keep saying BS like i didnt sign up using the banner or the link, i signed up directly, or some other BS
eBay is going full on to deny as many vouchers as possible

    • +6

Had extremely poor experience with them recently. Signed up for plus, didnt get voucher. A few weeks and several chats later they had no interest in fixing it, and refused refund. ACCC didnt do anything, my bank luckily cancelled the transaction and i got my money back, and not 24 hrs later my ebay plus was removed (they can move quickly when they want to!). Ill never sign up again as they have zero interest in helping customers

      • A lot of people do overlook the voucher during the signup process.

    • -1

eBay customer service is pretty much non-existent these days. I contacted over 40 different live chat agents over 5 months last year in chasing up $1100 worth of ebay egift cards refund back onto my account from the white box iPhone saga with mobileciti. I even had to call their US eBay customer service rep to notify this issue that made a little bit of progress but I finally got my money back onto my ebay account after 6 months since mobileciti had refunded the money. I learnt my lesson and Amazon prime is the way to go.

    • +1

Personally, I have had no issue in resolving disputes with Amazon and have hardly had any success when dealing with eBay for similar issues. I used to spend big on eBay for a number of years but since Amazon came, I look at eBay only when what I need is not on Amazon.

  • +1

Can confirm it worked for me. $40 voucher received even though offer stated $20. I had a lapsed membership so not sure if that makes any difference.

  • +1

Well it didn't even give ANY Voucher $20 is far away, shows nothing for some people.

  • +1

Unless you are really getting $40 back for your membership or you have something to buy which ebay plus gives you further discount, otherwise I will stay away their membership.
I bought couple of cordless vac (T branded) and within 6 months, battery completely dead, and when I ask t he seller to replace battery, I got no reply after couple attempts. I then go to ebay and asked them to assist, they sent messages to the seller and also received NO reply. I contact ebay 4 times to follow up and they said they can't do anything. They said they will investigate and punish the seller …….. and I told them ebay can at least suspense the seller's account until get reply and action what in their listing promised/advertised. Ebay obviously won't suspense them as no seller fees will be generated. They told me if the battery failed within a month can get money back without the seller reply. So please be aware that it doesn't matter what the seller adv their warranty period as I saw a lot of batteries listing 2, 3 or even 5 years, they are all rubbish and I think those sellers know exactly how ebay works!!
Unless you are prepared to go through some lengthily process to try to recoup the purchase costs. For me, I wasted so much time already and now I am prepare to throw away the rubbish vaccum during the hard rubbish collection time.
On the other hand, I am extremely happy with Amazon services when there is an issue, 90% of the time I am happy with the speed and resolution. Most of the local products sold by Amazon delivers within couple of days! When it comes to renewing my membership, I didn't even think of stopping the direct debit option.

  • +1

Tempted but not worth the signup if they only end up giving $20 as advertised. If only you could confirm before the final payment.

Anyone sign up fresh/new and actually only get the $20?

    • I did a new signup Monday and was surprised to get 40, while seeing the 20 banner for a while. I was seeing the old 40 banner for quite some time so that might be why…

  • Thanks for posting. Worked for me, got the $40.
I had to order something worth $48 so win win for me.

    • +1

      You still lost $9…

      • I hope I can get that value back in next one year.

  • +1

Better don’t swap any ShopBack cards or money for eBay gift cards. I had now twice a disaster experience over months and about 20 chats, 10 emails and 2 NSW fair trading lodgements. What happened was I used eBay gift cards I got before through ShopBack. Then payment was pending and then it didn’t go through and I had to pay again, but the gift card balance was zero on every gift card. I used 4 different gift cards on first purchase and 3 on the second one. Now I don’t get eBay gift cards anymore unless there’s a 100% Cashback… I got everything back but it took weeks and weeks and it’s not worth the hassle. I will only use eBay creating new trials but won’t pay a cent for a membership anymore unless it’s free…

    • I've never had an issue.

But if you need a refund I hear you'd better have kept track of what card is used for which purchase because they refund back to the gift card.

      • Gift card balances show up at checkout ready to be used again after refunds.

    • +1

Me neither never had any issue with eBay gift cards purchased through shopback but thanks for letting us know your experiences well geez what a pain you went through to fix,..certainly food for thought if I decide to purchase any gift cards through shopback in the future

    • +2

I had an issue with ebay not refunding $1100 worth of egift cards back onto my account for 6 months. You would think it should be a simple reversal after the seller refunded the money but they just kept saying to give them up to 28 days for investigation as an excuse…. so everyone please be careful in using ebay egift cards especially with high amounts.

      • +1

I had similar experience with lower amounts. $40 and $139.

      • What I usually buy high amount gift cards as eBay checkout only allows upto 8 gift cards/vouchers/discounts at checkout vouchers option,.. so I usually buy $100 domination eBay gift cards umm bit worrying now doing so in the future but thanks above for letting us all know

  • +1

I accepted the $30 voucher offer to not cancel my ebay plus and paid the renewal over a month ago now (I didn't fully cancel at any point). It's been a shitshow trying to get the $30 voucher through ebay support on three occasions. Still waiting on the voucher and am getting very little reassurance from support..

    • $30 should be a Gift Card. They emailed you a code a few days after the payment is received. You can search your email "xxx, here's your $30 gift card from eBay Plus".

  • Not sure about ebp. Always had trouble using these 'vouchers'

  • Slightly off topic but ebay related… I've cancelled my ebay plus subscription many years ago, but will randomly get charged for it every few months or so… in fact I just received one again few days ago and had to contact customer service to have it reversed.

The rep I spoke to today admitted that apparently there is a system glitch where members with past subscription do get charged randomly and is currently investigated by their "technical team". I bet you they haven't done anything as I've had to contact them 3-4 times now in the last 12-18 months for these "surprise" invoices.

    • When ebay tells you "currently investigated", that's mean you will never heard back from them telling you problem resolved.

    • but will randomly get charged for it every few months or so

Change your details so there is no card details to debit. If no option to do that, demand they remove it or fill with a bogus generated card number.

  • got the $40 too.

  • Got the $40 instantly, thanks OP

  • Looks like you can't renew your ebay plus membership early? I just clicked the link on the deal and it just went to my eBay Plus member profile page.

  • It will take 10 days for the 30$ voucher to arrive. I'll have to cancel again and get this 20$ offer. I hope I am doing it right.

I think if you cancel again in real, you won't get 30$ as it is stated in the terms that you have to renew the Plus.

    • Yup, which is why I mentioned YMMV. The $30 gift card may arrive because technically you are renewing (manually after expiry vs auto renewal), I will update the post if I get it.

      • Thanks mate. 1st year with plus has saved me a lot of money. I'd continue the membership.

  • Sure Amazon is better, but I've still saved a shit tonne with eBay plus.

  • Can also confirm I got the $40 code straight after payment

  • Confirmed also, $40

  • great

  • Based on the qty of unhappy replies, yeah I think I'll pass.

  • Confirmed I received the $40 voucher straight away after signing up for the ebay plus membership.

  • -3

    $8.98 net loss

they should be paying us (like with the previous $50 voucher/gift card) !

    no deal!

  • Confirmed $40 voucher. I was planning to by something over $40 so this came in handy.

  • I still feel dirty I forgot to cancel mine and auto-subbed with no reward, it's been nearly 2 months…

  • Confirmed $40 voucher for me too. Thanks!

  • +2

    UPDATE
I have received my $30 gift card too, for $48.99 renewal fees, I received $40 voucher and $30 gift card!

  • +2

Only got $20, maybe they fixed it :(

    • +1

Hey mate, tough luck. Thanks for reporting. I have marked it expired.

    • +1

      Likewise ;-/

  • +1

I didn’t receive mine, I chatted with eBay a week ago and they said they will escalate it and nothing has happened

    • +1

      That's code for go away.

      • +1

        That's code for go away.

That's code for "sure I'll check in the back for you…"
