Not worth $9 based on all promo in last year.

Not to mention you cannot use this voucher with other discount codes…

    • +3

That is a big problem. It seems like most of the time I buy >$40 items on eBay, I'm using one code or another, and this would block that.

      • +2

And annoyingly I found out the hard way. They have terms on the sign-up page but the most important one is relegated to the TCs link.

        • +11

I found that out the hard way too, and eBay refused to refund my Plus membership. So I used the voucher to buy something from myself on another account. Fortunately eBay were running a no fee promo at the time, as well as a 10% voucher for the "sale" so I didn't lose anything.

For anyone else, if you want Plus benefits very occasionally, then you can just create a new account and do a free trial.

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: Or just pay for 1 month and cancel.

            • +1

@abc: That works too. You have to decide which is more important, the time it takes to create a new account, or the money for the month's fee.

    • Really only probably an equivalent of $30 discount, which is still good.

You get monthly $5 ebay vouchers, which is good for cheap items like phone cases and other misc goods. Sometimes a $10 voucher or 2 with no minimum spend and an extra 2% discount on ebay sales every now and then.

I think its worth it for $20 a year.

      • +40

The $5 voucher need $50 min spend

        • +3

I never used these vouchers for this very reason.

        • Okay so I asked for and received my voucher. You're right that it's enforcing a $50 min spend, however there's nothing about minimum spend in the TCs.
          WTF.

      • I didn't get the $5 with my sign-up.

      • +7

It's ok until they stop giving you the vouchers for months and you have to follow up with them only for them to say it must have been a system error…

        • +1

Experienced exactly the same thing. Had the monthly $5 discount vouchers, and then suddenly stopped. Contacted customer support and it was due to "system error". It is really easy to forget that Plus members are entitled to these monthly discount vouchers once they stop showing up.

    • +4

It also disqualifies price guarantee (or more accurately they offset it by $40). Which isn't great on Scalpbay since everything is more expensive.

    • +15

Have to disagree, the amount of free items I got with ebay plus codes and Tuesday deals in the last year is nuts, easily over $200 in value.

      • +4

Fully agree; a couple of large Dell monitors for me and I 'saved' well over $600 last year.
Lots of nay-sayers here who obviously make very particular purchases and want to project that onto every one else.

        • +7

It's ok to have a different opinion… hardly "nay-sayers projecting on others".

Plus may be worth it to you and that's great. But for a lot of others it's not. Deal with it.

          • -6

@UFO: How do you know that it's not worth it for "a lot of others"?

            Don't assume.

            • +13

@miinht: I'm not assuming anything, there IS a lot of others… and will continue to be many more.

Deal has been up for less than 2 hours.
22 people have voted positively for the comment of "not worth $9".

As at the time of this post, 64 plus votes to the deal itself (on 645 clicks!), and a further 22 who agreed with the $9 comment.
A quarter of people (so far) who've explicitly agreed on that comment, and hundreds more who don't think this is a deal worthy of a plus vote (90% who clicked here didn't vote for it).

I'm not assuming anything… that's facts. Don't be offended by them.

                • +5

@miinht: I never said "majority" that's your ineptness in reading and comprehension in attempt to win a pointless argument that wishes to ignore statistics/facts. I suggest you give it another go and re-read what I typed.

              • @UFO: I don’t think it’s good value. I could be in the majority….

    • -1

Your name really suits u .

      • +3

        Oh well thanks

If you are half smart as you thought you are, you might notice one or two of following:

Ebay didn’t gave you much discount, seller pay most of them. 2% is the most ebay gave.

More and more seller moved away or chose not participate in these ebay “sales”. That’s why the eligible products are less and less attractive. Coles moved, myer no longer participate in any promo, big w removed lots of ebay plus items and charge delivery. and the list goes on and on. I won’t be surprised if Dell stop doing their promo on ebay soon. Unless ebay willing to gave away some of their profit. I don’t think it will get any better.

Ebay is just a sales channel after all.

Oh well each to it’s own. Good luck find any bargain on ebay this year

        • And they still on their best deals absolutely whip AMZ a$$ using stackings .
And I mean no where close .

        • big w removed lots of ebay plus items

          same with eb games :(

    • +4

And not to mention that the $40 voucher is a "single-use code", not a gift card.

Inadvertently buy a $5 item with that $40 dollar code, and boom, $35 forfeited.

From that moment you receive that code, every item you view thereafter will have a link "Save $x.xx on this item show me how" enticing you to use that code and forfeit the balance.

      • WTH! That's freaking nonsense.

    • Agree. Get a new email address. Sign up trial when Black Fri deals come. Then you are done

    • +1

Exactly right! 100% regretted! I didn't get the voucher after the subscription purchased, eBay let me to wait for 7 days, although I have explained I needed it urgently, as planned. I wanted to use this voucher on a winning auction, the seller couldn't wait for the payment for days so I had to pay by credit card. Then I asked eBay to cancel the subscription and refund me the $49 as I didn't get any benefit from it and it has only been 3-4 days, they refused. After at least 10 days, they provided me the voucher which is useless, because I don't need anything from eBay now. And I won't buy anything on eBay in future, their service is terrible, unacceptable now, much much worse than Amazon.

  • The $40 is a discount code not gift card?

    • +3

Correct. The way they describe it is misleading.

  • +1

they used to be giving ebay plus away for free..

    • +5

they used to pay you to get it!

      $50 voucher included in a $49 subscription.

    • About what it’s worth.

  • +5

    Not worth $9.

  • +1

Using this voucher would also invalidate any cashback….

  • +1

You get around $30 back in vouchers throughout the year.

    • +7

The monthly $5 vouchers? The issue with them is the $50 minimum spend and Plus items only, not to mention I didn't get one for a few months last year (I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one too).

I use eBay enough that $9 is probably worth it, but we'll see, my sub ends in February.

      • -1

Nope. $10 min. $10 etc and most recently $5 gift card.

        • +2

I see, but they're unpredictable and with very select items, though I did get some free cables and knives last year. The GC was targeted.

        • I've tried to use the $5. The TCs don't have a min spend, however the system is forcing a $50 minimum.

          • @OrderedChaos: $5 is different from monthly. It was a courtesy new year gift from eBay.

      • +1

They stopped giving me the $5 vouchers a few months in. But even when they did provide the vouchers, I never used them because of the minimum spend.

  • +7

    I cancelled mine in Dec
Only bought a few things from ebay last week
Most of the plus only promotions are not worth it

  • +3

I did get my use out of my eBay Plus membership. There's a number of % off sales and $ off that were eBay Plus exclusive and a couple of Plus hourly deals.
Not worth $49 per annum but about $10 I'd get onboard

  • +4

Used to be $50 back for $49 subscription. The last year Amazon was a big winner compared to EBay. Everything went downhill when they started their weekly garage (garbage sales)!

    • +2

Yep, Ebay offer their $5 off for Plus members… but you can't stack that code with what non members are getting as a discount in a sale anyway.
Often I just use the short term promo code on offer and forego the Plus discount. I wouldn't pay a cent for Plus!

  • +14

eBay Plus is such a bad deal. Half the monthly voucher codes I try to use don’t even work. eBay’s answer is to issue another voucher a week later after I’ve already made my purchase, forcing me to make another purchase if I want to redeem it. Such bad customer service and won’t be renewing.

    • +2

it was alright for coles, but that's gone now

  • +4

I took up the $30 gift card option for renewing my eBay Plus subscription. I believe it was posted on OzB as well 2 or 3 weeks ago as well.

Received the gift card a couple of days after the renewal just before Xmas so all good there. I went to use it today and it looks like they've messed it up.. "no balance on this gift card" message at checkout.

Been "escalated".. whatever that means and I can't say I'm confident of it being sorted. Gives me Telstra vibes :(

    • +1

It’s so crap. It’s actually a discount coupon, valid for use once only, and I believe expires after 30 days.

    • +1

I wait for my gift card balance since 10.12. I will put a complaint via fair trade NSW in next days. They were admitting in the chat transcripts (about 10 so far) several times that there was a glitch and I will get my money back. Nothing happened so far. eBay is a nightmare and I will let run out my eBay plus subscriptions. I used to have 3.

    • My $30 voucher for going to "cancel" late last year came through fine once it renewed. I used it towards Grogu when he was on sale for $45.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234160242137

  • +2

this voucher of $40 cannot be used with any other discount codes (you can use it on full-price items only).

    • +1

That's why you just buy from Big W or Supercheap as they reduced instore and on ebay store.

  • +9

Ebay is only my last option now, if I can't find anywhere else.

    • +2

yep… it's more a check price that Amazon is being competitive. The wait for Ebay items, especially if coming from China, is ridiculous.

      • +2

Phone case bought in November still not arrived from eBay. There was no other option hence used them else completely forgo ebay

  • +11

Maybe unpopular opinion here but I would say eBay plus $49 per annum is worth it and that's coming from someone who doesn't buy a lot of stuff on eBay. The random ebayPlus $5, $10 coupons, free express shipping will already easily make up for the membership fee.

I don't think eBay makes money from these memberships, they probably make money from making you more inclined to use eBay because you have a membership.

PS: might not be worth it if you don't live in a metro area because you won't be able to take advantage of the free express metro shipping.

    • +1

I agree, I'm positive I've used more than 10 of the $5 off coupons they've given(particularly the one if a eBay plus item arrives late) not to mention flash deals (a few $35 cases of 4 pines) and free shipping.

And I don't think I'm a heavy ebay user by any stretch.

    • +3

Ebay Plus is one of top subscriptions. People who complain just have short term memory. Search Ozb and look at all the all time low prices on computer parts, the listings are dominated by Ebay.

It's just a reflection of how Ozb has been invaded by normies.

      • +2

That is 3-4 years ago. So 2018

    • 100% agree, it’s the reason I have 6 accounts all on memberships. Join through these deals, and the membership becomes around $10 (or $20 if renewed with their $30 GC). The coupons and deals all make up for the $10/$20 membership cost

      • Why do you need 6 accounts?

        • Multiple single-use vouchers probably

  • +5

According to my eBay Plus yearly email I got 35 free deliveries and saved $241, so for me $9 seems like a good deal. Each to their own, I guess.

    • +5

You almost always get free delivery from ebay even if you aren't ebay plus. So a good amount of the $241 saving counted by ebay isn't really valid. Though some free cables and small discount while having ebay plus effectively making $49 justifiable, but no way near $241.

      • For those with free delivery already I think you're upgraded to express postage. Got a few things that arrived within 1 or 2 days so I think it's worth the $9.

    • I think that $40 would have been better to go to prime membership I definitely saved more than $241 for shipping and lightning deals over the course of the entire year

      • Why not both?

        • I've started selectively using Prime as I found there are months when I didn't use it even though I paid for it. I don't use Prime Video that much so don't miss it, it's pretty much Disney+ or YouTube these days when the TV is on.

  • how can we cancel ebay plus?

under edit membership there is no cancel option

    • There is no option in the app. Have to do it on desktop or classic site option via browser.

      • yeah i was talking about the browser, there is no cancel option under edit membership..

in the FAQ they said that is how we cancel the membership

  • +10

Nah, get Amazon Prime. You get more stuff like Amazon video, music, game and stuff to read on Kindle. I cancelled ebay plus 2 months ago.

    • +4

Yep, its a chalk and cheese difference! I can get Amazon items in sometimes less than 24hours!
Prime definitely worth it… Ebay? No chance.

I used to buy everything on Ebay before Prime… now its hardly ever.

  • +3

I'll wait till they give me a $50 voucher when I pay $49 for membership (in other words they pay me) to be a member.

I've been a Plus member for years, and have never paid $9. I'm not starting now!

    • Just go to the pub and buy a $24 jug of beer to cool off.

      • +1

Oh I'm fine… it's Ebay who's losing big time. But thanks for the suggestion, its pretty much beer o'clock on a warm afternoon.

  • +4

Not even worth a single dollar out of your pocket, let alone $9. I renewed last year only because they gave it to me for free + extra $40 x 2 gift cards. The only thing I payed for was my first yr's sub $9 on 2020.

BTW, I'm happy leaving my Amazon Prime auto renew and I don't even know when it debits. Never checked that.

    • They used to give away 2 x $40 gift card when signing up for eBay plus as well? Wow

  • +3

Still waiting for my $10 voucher from the $90 spend. Spoke to customer chat and they said they would "investigate" it.

    • Have fun with that…

    • +3

Mine has been escalated twice now.
Absolutely useless customer service, complete scammers.

  • I signed go for this same deal before Xmas. Got the discount straight away.
Got mulitple items delivered express in 2 days so feel like I got my moneys worth quickly.

    • My experience of the free Express is that sellers don't use it but do pocket the difference. It depends on the seller of course.

      • Can't you report that if it clearly isn't sent express? I had one no arrive in time and got a refund no worries

        • If it arrives later than guaranteed arrival, then you can claim, I think it was $10. I didn't bother reporting them, but when I bought a second time, I didn't choose express, and it actually arrived sooner. Both times it was sent without express. Some sellers just use the option to make some extra money out of eBay.

  • +1

Is this targeted? Says I've already used my free trial. Do I still get the voucher?

    • Wondering this too though the last post says "I got my $40 voucher straightaway after signing up, valid for 30 days. The account has been used for the free trial in the past."

  • +8

Be careful. This voucher has very silly terms. It is not refundable not reusable.

If you use it to purchase an item that is faulty or bad, you can not refund and get the voucher back.
Or if it happens to be out of stock, and seller cancels the order, you will get nothing back with the voucher part.

Don't know if you can use to purchase any gift card. If possible, gift card maybe the best option to use it.

    • +3

Can't buy gift cards. "Instant $40 voucher to spend on anything" T&C: "Excluded Items… Gift Cards"

They have a very loose definition of anything.

  • +2

Not worth $9 and not worth dealing with eBay sh1tty customer service.
    Hard pass for me.

  • +1

Make it 50 like last year eBay and I'm in

  • +4

Pro tip. Cancel your eBay plus and select “selection of items too small”
They will then offer you a $30 gift card when you make your first eBay plus payment
