OzBargain QLD Solar Feed in Tariff (FiT) tracking

So the fantastic deal posted by CrocDundee here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538080 has been marked as expired so we are no longer able to discuss the best Feed in Tariff available.

This thread is for people to monitor and discuss what they find in achieving the best possible plan for their power needs, specifically in relation to solar feed in tariffs.

This thread is in specific relation to plans available in Queensland, as per the original deal linked above.
While some may be available in other states, this isn't always the case.

Note that if you don't export a large amount of power, that having a large FiT with higher usages fees might not be the best deal for you.

I will continue to update this main post with any information people find useful, however the latest actually deal should be found within the comments.

I got an email from AGL offering 15c capped at 14 kWh per day. Looks like offers are becoming more competitive again?

    • +1

I'm hoping they come out with 15c Uncapped soon. I'm sure if you pushed, you'd get 15c Uncapped with AGL.

      • +1

I've tried multiple times and AGL never budged with 15c uncapped. I find Origin people easier to negotiate.

For those with an electric vehicle as well as a large amount of solar, OVOs EV Plan might be a good option. Yes the usage rate is high, but the FIT is good and it has an off peak rate between midnight and 6am which is cheaper than the FIT!

    Rates as follows:
    Unit rate: $0.3115/kWh
    Supply Charge: $0.9438/day
    Solar export: $0.10/kWh
EV charging: $0.08/kWh (between midnight and 6am)

I recently switched to Alinta for the 8c FIT, but this OVO EV plan could be better value for me if I change to charging the car overnight and feed in more during the day. I’ve requested a call from OVO on Monday, only issue is my meter is not currently a smart meter so don’t know if I’ll be able to get this deal.

Not related to good FiT sorry, just an overall interest.

What does everyone find is their base level idle power usage for their house (like at 2am). So just the things that never get turned off like fridge etc. Not when your hot water or pool pump is running.

Ours minimum is about 325W/h and always interested in how other people do.

    • +1

Mine at 2am last night was 195W/h
This is fridge, modem. White noise for my 2 young kids.
      Porch lights etc

    • My average power draw is 155W during 'sleep' hours (0.935kWh between midnight and 6am)

  • Just checked and at 2am last night mine was 60 W/H which is typical of my usage. Just 1 fridge, small freezer, 2 x TVs on standby, then small things like digital clocks etc. and all computers turned off. My typical over night usage from 8pm to sunrise (when no solar is being produced is always under 2kwh. My hot water heater is set by the fronius inverter to only comes on when I’m producing more than 6kwh so never at night. There is only two of us at home and we generally only use up to 2kwh of the grid power per day, the rest comes from our solar panels. I have a very effective solar system that generates an excellent credit each quarter.

  • 10kw system. Was on Origin solar boost and churned to Alinta. Got a retention call from Guru who could offer two deals, 12c uncapped or 10c uncapped with 10% discount on usage & supply rates, solar meter stayed the same rate. 12mo fixed term. I ended up opting for the fixed term to save a little bit on usage during the night. We export way more than we use right now so should work out quite good.

    • Is that 12 mo fixed with 10% discount based on the current solar boos tariff or after the 1st July price increases (32.042/kwh + 133.991+8.526/day)?
I'm currently on the 12c feed-in expiring in early October, and received the price increase email for 1st July today.

      • Yeah that’s the catch apparently they can still raise prices under a fixed term, go figure. So it will be 28c after the price rise but still somewhat decent.

        • Normally it's the solar feed in tariff that's locked in for the 12mth fixed term and the usage rates being variable.

I've just left Origin for AGL - what's the best way to get in touch with the great man Guru? Should I expect a call, or is there another way to get in touch with him?

    • I ported out to Alinta, and about 5 days after leaving origin i got a call from a 02-xxxx-xxxx number. It was origin offering me the 12c deal upfront. Was a 5 minute phone call and back with origin now

  • Thanks guys. Guru hooked me up with uncapped 10c FIT and 10% off rate. Worked out better as we consume more power than exporting to grid

  • +1

I'm on the 12c FIT uncapped plan until October
My Origin costs are changing on 1 July to
    General: 32.043
    Supply: 133.991
    Solar meter charge: 8.526
    FIT: 12c uncapped

I have a 10kw solar system and export about 27kw/h per day so the highest FIT works best for me

    I haven't found anything cheaper

OVO EV Plan (assuming there isn't a demand charge like their other plans) works out the same based on usage, but with a $190 welcome credit. Their prices are changing on 1st August though and not sure what they will be

Have others found this the same, that even with the massive Origin pricing increase there still isn't a cheaper option for larger solar export usage?

    • Need an EV to go on the plan? Assume not

      • Good question. I assume not.

I won't be changing anyway, too hard to know what their price rise will be in August

    • Yeah, I'm in same boat and did the comparison to Nectr's 12mth fixed plan. Even though the supply & usage charges are way cheaper with them, I'm still better off on Origin due to the higher FIT.

      • Same
Fit gets worse over time too. 20c was good 😭
        But still nothing better

  • My plan expires next week (12c Uncapped)..time to transfer to alinta, hope origin calls me back…I did try calling 1 day and no luck getting extended with origin

    • I just left Alinta for Energy Australia.

They raised their FIT recently. In QLD it's 15c for the first 15 kWh, then 6 for the rest.

There is a $50 credit for the first month too.

They haven't raised their rates yet, and are due to on August 1, but even with the 20.3% rise they mention, they should work out the best option for me.

      • I notice Energy Australia apply a demand charge, like many other energy providers. Seems Origin (who I want to move away from) is the only one without demand charge?

        • Unfortunately, I think demand charges are pretty much standard now.

When my connection is sorted, I'll ask if I can get it removed, but I'm not hopeful.

        • Confirming origin do not apply demand charges, at least on the 12c uncapped plan

    • PM send, please check.

  • +1

Switched to 12c no tier (uncapped) with origin thanks to guru. This man will help you out but you must leave origin. Let me know and I can pass on your details

    • I planned to do that when my contact expires, but I just checked EA Solar Max plan with a 15c tiered FIT and demand charge, and for me, it came out much better than Origin at 12c flat, no demand. I might switch sooner than I expected!

  • Is it possible to get onto Origin 12c uncapped as a new customer? I just got solar installed and looking for a decent fit plan to start out on

    • No mate, try EA though

      • Thank you!

        • I got in touch with Guru and to clarify, he can help you if you've either left Origin or you've never been with Origin and with another provider.

  • +2

Spoke with Guru today - absolute legend!!
I'm an existing origin customer (12c FTE uncapped). He was able to review my plan (along with my parents).

He's more than happy to speak to anyone else looking at joining / renewing etc even if you're an existing customer. Hit me up if you want his contact details.

For anyone who has already spoken with Guru I STRONGLY recommend posting a review - http://au.trustpilot.com/evaluate/www.originenergy.com.au and/or email him. I hope Origin is looking after this bloke!!!

    • +1

Hi deezenuts, how do you get in touch with Guru?

      • only by receiving a call, details passed on by a previous customer

        • Hi @leeroys_dad I got his email address from another OzB member. He called me directly. No need to churn from Origin for him to renew my 12c FIT. Thanks

    • What's your usage charge and daily charge, that come with the 12c uncapped?

      • General: 32.043
        Supply: 133.991
        Solar meter charge: 8.526
        FIT: 12c uncapped

    • Update 26/8: I’ve been informed guru can’t help any further. Might be worth churning to another supplier.

    • @deezenuts
Would you please be able to share his contact details with me too? Hoping to get on a good Fit with Origin.

      Thanks a lot

  • I would like his contact details. My 12c FTE uncapped just expired yesterday. Rather than leaving I would prefer if Guru can renew my 12c FTE.

  • Just got the renewal email from origin with ridiculously high rates, please send me Guru contact details as well.

  • Fyi anyone on EA solar max in seq- rates increasing on 1 sep! Unsure what they will be yet

    • Hey mate, can you send me Guru details?

      • no, you need to send me yours to pass on as it is generic details

  • +1

Another positive rep for Guru, he got me back to Origin with uncapped 12c FiT. Absolute Legend.
Only caveat is he can only help you when you move out from Origin (this is what my understanding is…)

Big thanks to @leeroys_dad and @deezenuts for providing my contact details to Guru - appreciate your help

    • +1

Would you mind sharing contact details for Guru?

      Much appreciated. Thanks

    • +1

      Yes, Guru is very helpful.
You have to have moved out from Origin before he can help, even if it is for a few days (guess that's what "retention team" is about!).
The 12c uncap FIT deal is still on.

      • +2

Spoke with Guru today (11 Sep) and can confirm the 12 cent FiT is still available (or 10 cent FiT with 10% off Usage/Supply charge). Big thanks to @leeroys_dad for providing my contact details to Guru. Also noting that Energy Australia has raised their rates as of 1 September so worth comparing your rates if you're currently with them.

        • My rates have not changed since signing up (in August). For me, it's still a better deal than Origin @12c uncapped.

    • Would also like a pm with the contact details for Guru rep.

Currently with Energy Australia, but was with Origin a while ago and looking to switch back.

      Very much appretiated.

  • I've managed to get onto Origin's 12c uncapped FiT. I left Origin and a day later I sent a PM to @leeroys_dad which resulted in the Origin dude calling me.

Thanks @leeroys_dad you are great human!

  • +3

Seems Origin have upped the game and now have a 16c FIT(QLD) capped to the first 14kWh.
    Wondering if it's available uncapped?
Trying to get in contact with the Guru, have left a message for him.

    • Be great if he does!!

    • can someone dm Guru email at origin.

    • Any luck with Guru? My contact isn't budging on the 12c Uncapped plan, unfortunately.

      • have not been able to get the Guru email maybe @balbags can you PM me his email or @leeroys_dad

      • I sent guru an email, unfortunately there’s no uncapped 16c plan he said

        • Did he mention what’s the best offer origin has atm?

    • Looks like the 16c capped fit is no longer available.

  • hi is anyone able to put me in contact with guru.

my origin 12c plan is about to end and I'm looking to switch to EA, so i can churn back to origin's 12c plan.

    thanks in advance :)

  • Hello. I've cancelled original nd gone to AGL last week but haven't had the call from Origin retentions yet.

Hoping someone can help me reach the guru.

I've investigated all the options and even ith the massive price increased, 12c FIT uncapped is the best option for me because we export so much.

    Thanks :)

    • im in the same boat, let me know if Origin calls you back. I was looking to switch the EA Solar max, except i realised it has a demand charge ;(/

next best thing would be to move to Origins 8c plan.

      • +1

I got in touch with Leeroy (above) and they have arranged for the Guru to call me. The Guru called shortly after but I missed the call, so hoping for a call back today.

I'll post here what he can offer me

  • 14c feed in - uncapped - 24 Months

    • Is this what guru could offer?

      • I have Gas and Electricity with them. I don't think it was Guru.

        • Did you have to churn to different company ?

          • @sod: I had not churned yet - my 12c plan had expired a few weeks ago. I was on the capped standard plan and I noticed the Origin website ad a new 16c capped plan and thought i would ring them before I churned away.

    • Thats great deal you got. Just tried calling. No luck for me. Just 16c FIT with the cap. I guess i will try it again later.

    • How was this possible. Even with bundling gas there is no hint of a 14c uncapped offer

      • Either they bought their Solar through Origin or they are mistaken about getting 14c FIT uncapped.

  • +3

    Just spoke to Guru

    He could offer

    12c FIT uncapped no discount
10c FIT uncapped with 10% discount on supply and usage
16c FIT for the first 14KWH per day and after that 5c per KWH (no discount)

    • @jamestownfx
Would you please be able to share his contact details with me? Hoping to get on a good Fit with Origin.

      Thanks a lot

      • I don't have them, you'll need to contact @leeroys_dad above ^

      • If you have left origin recently, send me your name and number to pass on

        • Sorry for the slow reply. Have left them 1 1/2 years ago because I've been overseas since and am returning now. So would probably be considered new customer rather than recent leaver

          • +1

@Unterberg: Switch to origin, after a few days switch to agl then send your details to me

  • How does one get in contact with guru?

  • Will Guru be able to offer if i previously was with Origin and am moving home?

Also, when i put my new home in Origin online (postcode 4113) , i get a 49 cent solar feed in…seems too good to be true?!

    Origin Go Variable
    $150 discount online o ly
    49c/kWh FiT
    120.6 c / day daily supply charge
    8.53 c/day solar meter charge
    28.84 c / KwH general usage

It says the Plan is a variable rate but there is no mention on demand tariffs in the linked energy fact sheet that takes me to energymadeeasy website, or in the terms and conditions link.

Is this too good to be true and there would be a hidden demand tariff listed in some obscure place when you place the order??!

If so an someone help me get acces to the mighty Guru!

    • +1

Dude take it and think later. You need to be with origin and port out after

    • +2

It's probably due to the previous owner/tenant getting the phased-out high QLD government feed-in tariff at that address, which is unfortunately not transferable to you. I believe it's linked to nmi/address and name.

    • +1

You’ll get a letter a couple of months in saying that they are removing the 44c bonus. I know because this happened to me

      • Oh so il at least get a couple of months of the cheap rate then during summer :) and can then churn and hope Il get the call from Guru

  • +2

Just received my bill for last quarter (Aug - Nov) which was $300ish.

I have never paid a cent when I was on 20c FIT uncapped before!

I did a calculation and found out the expensive usage and supply charge contributed to the significant amount.

Before (20c FIT uncapped): Now (12c FIT uncapped):

    Usage: 22.671c/kwh ———————— Usage: 32.043c/kwh
    Control Load: 16.929c/kwh ———————— Control Load: 23.353c/kwh
    Supply charge: 112.9c/day ———————— Supply charge: 133.991c/day
    Supply charge for CL2: 2.587c/day ———————— Supply charge for CL2: 3.729c/day
Solar meter charge: 6.7c/day ———————— Solar meter charge: 8.526c/day

Might shop around and see if there are any other options…

    • Thanks, yes unfortunately the usage charge has been increased a lot.

Please let us know if you find any better deals.

    • +1

use solar for HWS instead of CL

      • Yeah the CL has consumed so much electricity at night.

But how can I set it up for solar?

        • +1

get electrician to re-wire it and use power diverter or timer. E.g. when you have excess solar power it'll be diverted to HWS instead of exporting to the grid, or just time based if using timer (cheaper device). All new solar installations do this.

  • Hi all just getting solar panels on the roof on Monday currently with Origin looking at the Solar Max plan with Energy Australia - any hidden caveats with the Solar Max plan i might be missing? Also is that Guru guy still around as Id prefer to stay with Origin if I can get the 12kw uncapped deal

    • what is the FIT for Solar Max plan with Energy Australia now?

      • It’s only 12c for the first 15kw per day then drops back to 6.6c so not great but is less daily surcharge and peak rate than origin

  • I am with Alinta now and QLD govt are doing 4 x rebates. 2 x have been applied in July and October. Next 2 x will be applied in Jan and April. Would I still get the 2 x rebates applied if I churn to Origin now and follow the shenanigans with Guru for a 12c FIT? Unable to find this info.
Origin website says "get $150 back on electricity" if the plan "Origin Go Variable" is still active/available in Jan 2024 but that's very misleading/confusing and nothing about the April rebate.

    https://www.originenergy.com.au/electricity-gas/plans.html#c…

    • Yes, tied to mni.
I ported out to another retailer, the old retailer received the funds and eft it to me
