OzBargain QLD Solar Feed in Tariff (FiT) tracking

So the fantastic deal posted by CrocDundee here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/538080 has been marked as expired so we are no longer able to discuss the best Feed in Tariff available.

This thread is for people to monitor and discuss what they find in achieving the best possible plan for their power needs, specifically in relation to solar feed in tariffs.

This thread is in specific relation to plans available in Queensland, as per the original deal linked above.
While some may be available in other states, this isn't always the case.

Note that if you don't export a large amount of power, that having a large FiT with higher usages fees might not be the best deal for you.

I will continue to update this main post with any information people find useful, however the latest actually deal should be found within the comments.

      • that's excellent, so in my case Alinta would still be getting those funds/rebates which I should be able to call them and transferred to my bank account. I will complete my churn to Origin as "moving property" so I can churn within few days, wait a few days, sign up to AGL or something and send you the details so you can pass it on to Guru. Thanks again mate, appreciate all your help.

        • if the transfer occurs by the time the switch has been finalised, then the new retailer will receive the qld gov rebate. I just so happened to transfer during the deposit of funds from qld gov

FYI Guru has been a legend and signed me up to the 12c uncapped FIT Origin deal today. Super easy and a nice guy. If anyone else wants to jump on this FIT with Origin, he'll be on leave 21st Dec and back mid Feb.

Thanks for putting me in touch @leeroys_dad

  • +1

    Just echoing the above.
Had the pleasure of being Guru’d this arvo. What an absolutely lovely human being. Top notch bloke who enjoys saving other people money.
Cheers to Leeroys old man for the hookup.

  • As above both these guys @leroys_dad and Guru are top blokes. Referred on Saturday Guru called today now on 12c Fit. Thanks again guys

PSA. Origin 12c uncapped via our main man guru will be unavailable from 23 Dec to early Feb.
You might have luck with other operators but details will not be passed on unless you can wait until Feb

  • Hi guys, I've just had solar installed on my new build. I have a 15kW inverter and produced approximately 100kWh of energy yesterday in SE QLD. Currently, I'm with AGL as the account was signed over to me by my builder.

What is the fastest way I can get onto the Origin 12c FIT deal via Guru? I did a KDRB, so I believe I have had an Origin account (non-solar) at this address before.

Do I need to port over to Origin, churn to another provider, and then bounce back to Origin?

If anyone can put me in contact with Guru, I would be very appreciative.

    • I have a business with 3 phase power and 15kw Inverter putting back anywhere from 80-120kwh to the grid in Summer. I didn't go through Guru but contacted them directly via chat and email. After being told that there was no such deal as 12c unlimited FIT, I told them that there was as it was all over the Interenet and reminded them that it would be in their best interests to give me the 12c FIT as they then on-sell that electricity @ 30+cents. Lo and behold, they found the plan and put me on it. You just have to be persistent. I was on a current plan with Origin @ the time and didn't want to piss around with moving out and back in. It took a few days of back and forth with emails, but I spent little of my precious time doing it. The phone may have got me quicker results, but would have cost me more time I'm guessing.

      • +1

Thanks mate, will give it a shot today.

      • As soon as I mentioned the plan, they ghosted me. Chat literally gave me silence and then said the only plans they have are the ones online.

        • +2

You could try the email address listed below. I have added my request to them which got the necessary result. Otherwise you will have to wait til Feb for Guru.

              Hi Stella,

It's noted on a couple of chat rooms on the Internet.

Some customers have noted that by contacting your retentions team, they have been offered 12c FIT uncapped. Some customers have noted that they have had to leave Origin for another provider before being contacted several days later with an offer to come back if they provide the 12c FIT uncapped.

I thought I would save myself the trouble of signing up with a new provider and ask for the retention offer before leaving. Given that Origin is charging out the considerable energy I generate as the more expensive 'Green' energy, I feel that 12c FIT uncapped is the least that would be offered.

I look forward to your reply.

              Regards,

  • Just a heads up, so just got put on the 12cent FIT plan. Quite simple to get this.

If you're already with Origin contact them via the web site. Say you want to move to the Origin Basic plan with the 12cent FIT. It exists you just negotiate. However the daily rates and anytime rates are higher than Solar Go Variable so you should have a 13kw system and be export lots to make it worth it. Moving to this plan.

  • I moved providers a few days ago, and was contacted by origin within a day or the move by who I imagined was their retentions team.
Was straight up offered 10% off usage and 10c uncapped. I asked about 12c uncapped and this wasn't a problem. However, they went over my usage and determined 10% off and 10c uncapped would work out best in my situation.

What I've learnt over the years is to just switch providers and they will contact you. I've done this for about 4 consecutive years and yet to have any issues.

    • Which provider did you use to churn?

  • Anyone updated plans recently? The online listings don't look particularly promising.
My Origin plan expires in a few weeks -
    General Usage $0.32
    Daily Supply $1.339
    Solar Meter Charge $0.085
    FIT $0.14 Uncapped

Can't see anything close to that FIT that's uncapped now. That said, I'm only pulling in 2750kWh a quarter (last read), so perhaps lower FIT with lower usage and supply charges wouldn't be terrible.

  • what rates and other charges you guys are getting with Origin 12c FIT uncapped?

    • +1

      Solar meter 8.526
      Daily supply 133.991
      General usage 32.043

Albeit I am on 16c capped, I think the base rates are unchanged

  • Hi all, approaching that time of year when my plan expires with Origin. Last year I had to churn off to other providers to get any kind of contact to renew my previous plan (12c FIT uncapped)

@leeroys_dad is this something guru can do without me going through the move to another provider process?

  • PSA
Guru is back in action. Send me your details.

A reminder that he can only offer the plan to people who are no longer Origin customers (you cannot be a current customer). So please don't contact me if you don't plan on porting out as it wastes my time as well as Guru's.

  • Guru is getting a workout

    • Hi @leeroys_dad, are we still able to message you our details 48 hours before churning to have Guru contact us about the unlimited 10c FIT?

  • So I rang up after porting to another provider and asked about getting the 12c uncapped feed in tariff. Got told all they can offer is 12c capped at 14kw/h a day. I asked to speak to Guru, they put me on hold to check if he was available. Got offered the 12c uncapped plan for another year. It would be nice to not have to waste everyone's time jumping through hoops each year to get a good deal.

  • Thanks for sharing that Guru is still about, surprised he did not contact you when you left the big O?
I'm almost due to renew, would be great if I did not have to lose all FIT savings since last Actual read, or I have to ask for a special read.
Only get 1 actual read per year!
    Others are Guessed reads.

    • I thought they were all actual reads now if you had a smart meter?

  • +1

    Semi-Smart meter.
    Around 10 years old.
    Digital but….
This one does not transmit or be interrogated by supplier.

Cost me 3 months of 20 cent FIT (old plan) to leave and come back to Guru, as the supplier I had to move to, used the readings from the last
actual to start my new plan with them (at their reduced rates of course!)
So, when I moved back to Mr Guru (and thanks for your help back then), the big O used their 12 cent FIT from that date also.
    Nice gotcha!
3 months of 20c unlimited was a big loss!

    • I guess might get around it if you call current provider to advise you are leaving - they might ask for meter read.
Then rejoin the same provider, then port out a few days later

      • Nope! Tried that last year.
Even sent photos of meter with the date, but refused to accept that.
They wanted to charge me to have a "Special Meter Read"
So, I do wonder WHY am I charged a "Solar Meter Charge" ?

        • Sign up to the same provider, same address, but different name (eg partner).
That should trigger an actual read

          • @leeroys_dad: Hmm,
Not sure as they use the NMI for meter readings.
They get that from the previous read by a meter reader.
(Who does not work for an actual supplier I believe)
            But worth thinking about.

Someone else was told he was on the best deal they had, so it was just renewed for another year.

          • @leeroys_dad: I did this a few years ago. Worked perfectly

  • +3

Just though I'd provide an update here. @leeroys_dad put me in touch with Guru from Origin (his actual name is Gurdeep), who was able to offer me the following 3 plans in Brisbane:

    • 12c uncapped FIT | 32.04c/kwh Usage | 133.99c Daily Supply | 8.53c/day Solar Meter Charge | No Demand Charge
    • 10c uncapped FIT | 28.84c/kwh Usage | 120.59c Daily Supply | 7.67c/day Solar Meter Charge | No Demand Charge | (equal to 10% off rates)
    • 05c uncapped FIT | 25.95c/kwh Usage | 108.53c Daily Supply | 6.90c/day Solar Meter Charge | No Demand Charge | (equal to 19% off rates) | +BONUS $200 Signing Credit

For my usage, the 10% rate discount + 10c FIT worked out to be cheapest, and was ~$50/y cheaper than the next cheapest provider (Alinta), but with the added benefit of 8-12c/L off at Woolies petrol stations, it was a no-brainer.

FWIW, he also offered me gigabit NBN (Aussie Broadband backend for now) for $104/m for 6 months ($119 thereafter).

Hope this helps you all save some money for more Eneloops!!

    • +2

@thebargainhunter I just got off the call with Guru to "renew" my deal and I want to correct some of the plans you mentioned.
      1. Solar Meter Charge is a FIXED rate and does not have discounts. The 10% and 19% discount ONLY applies to the Usage rate and Daily Supply.
      2. The $200 sign on credit you put under plan 3 is actually a 4th offer: 5c uncapped FiT, 10% off Usage and Daily Supply, and $200 off first bill. The 3rd plan is 5c FiT, 19% off Usage and Daily Supply. There is NO plan that give 19% off with $200 credit.

Can you please edit your post so poor Guru doesn't have to explain to everyone calling in that he can't offer a plan that doesn't exist?

Also, Guru can only offer these plans to people who are NOT with Origin. If you want to "renewal" your deal with Origin, then you need to churn away before he can give you this deal. That said, let pm @leeroys_dad your details 48 hours before you switch away, and Guru can monitor your account and offer you the deal as soon as your account is closed.

Some people may receive a notice a few months before their plan expires, saying that their plan got extended for another 6 months. This is randomly generated by the system and you cannot manually ask for it / get them to "match" this extension.

      • Cheers for the update, what method are you taking for choosing which deal to take?

        • I grabbed my monthly electricity consumption and solar feed in over the last few years, and calculated the total cost over the year for each plan. Electricity companies are coming up with more "plans" with different ways to charge, and the only way to find out which is the best is to use a calculator on your own data.

  • Hi everyone just checking what everyone is planning to do when we get this 1000 dollar credit from the Queensland government. I’ve heard that you cannot get the money refunded to you when you port out to another provider as it is a credit on your account. This will affect the churning to another provider as we won’t want to lose the credit. Without churning we won’t be able to get the gurus assistance?

    • +1

Not 100% sure how does will the rebate work, but any credit that is on your electricity account can be "withdrawn" at any time. You'll be able to get the credit back if you close an account in the credit. At least this is what happened with I switched many years ago when FiT was 20c.

Happy to pass on some details from our main man Guru. He can offer 8c (inc GST)** for Tesla charging 24/7, with a few conditions:

    • The 8c applies for the 'optimised charge' state (i.e. it will charge slower) - instant charging (i.e. normal charging) is billed at normal electricity rates
    • Must have been hooked up by our main man Guru
    • You can be on any Origin plan
    • You must install Origin app and authorise Origin to access some Tesla details

    Read more here: https://www.originenergy.com.au/origin-loop/electric-vehicle…

Only PM me your name and mobile mentioning the EV offer if you meet above criteria and want Guru to call you to take advantage of the offer (noting the optimised charging state)

    • Very innovative. Shame I won't be able to use this as I don't have a Tesla.

  • How does this work with solar FIT? Get 12c if you export or 8c if you use? Didn't make sense

  • Anyone who has left origin recently, did you receive a call from retentions pretty soon after?

My plan is up soon so looking to move on so they can contact me.

    • Yes, left on May 15, call from retentions on May 20.

  • +2

Renewed the Solar Boost plan with Guru and help from @leeroys_dad after switching to AGL. Got a phone call from Guru after approx. 4 days. Smooth process.

10c FIT and 10% off usage and supply charges:

    General usage: 28.839 c/kwh
    CL2 usage: 21.018 c/kwh
    Daily supply: 120.592 c/day
    Daily supply CL: 3.357 c/day
    Solar meter charge: 8.526 c/day

    • Are the rates quoted before or after the 10% discount?

      • After, it doesn't show 10% discount on the plan information but it worked out to be 10% cheaper than the previous prices with 12c FIT no discount.

  • Did anyone else get an email from origin stating that plans were changing to 10c for first 14kw and then 4c thereafter.

I’m currently on the 10c uncapped so quite annoyed, do I need to churn again just to get back on the offer?

    • +1

Yes, I got an email. I'm on the Origin Solar Boost plan. Here are my changes:

      • +1

I received the same price hike @ilikeit

      • that is the updated price for the 12c uncapped FIT plan?

        • Nope, Origin Solar Boost. I’m not on the uncapped FIT. Will have a crack next week though I think.

  • +3

I just got my EV and foresee that I will self consume the majority of my production from now on. So I’m moving on to lowest usage charge and daily supply from here on out. Thanks for the memories guys

  • anyone have the updated price for the 10c feedin plan?

    • Charge description Charges
      as at 30 June 2024
New Charges from 1 July 2024 Difference
General Usage 28.839 cents per kWh 30.558 cents per kWh 1.719 cent increase

Solar feed-in credit (incl GST where applicable)
      -10.000 cents perkWh-10.000 cents per
      kWh No change

Daily Supply 120.592 cents per day 124.223 cents per day 3.631 cent increase

Solar Meter Charge 8.526 cents per day 9.567 cents per day 1.041 cent increase

  • Got on the plan after taking to croc, leaving origin and getting the call from Guru.

    After 10% discount, new rates are;

    General usage 30.558
    Daily supply 124.223
    Fit 10c uncapped
    No demand charge
    124.223

After looking around this still seems the best option. Other companies rates are just as high if not higher. No demand charge really sells it and highest fit I've found.

  • Does anyone know electricity provider that doesnt do credit check? Trying to move out but dont wanna get hard inquiry lol

They might be able to assist you.

  • Does anyone know how I can contact the retention team? The above in OP doesn't work anymore. It just picks up says transfer you and then hangs up.

    • Have you tried the number Guru gave me - 132 461?

  • Guru is gone? That’s a blow

Do you think it would it be possible to ask guru for a new contact in the retention team? He must know others that maybe willing to take up the task? Just throwing it out there, could be a long shot.

See comment below - Guru still in retention team but uncapped offer has been removed at this stage

  • My contact has also left :/

Update: Guru is still active in the retention team, however the uncapped offer has been removed at this stage. The best offer is:
    *15c FIT (capped at 14kw)
    *4c FIT over cap

    • I got moved to

10.00 c/kWh till 14 kWh per day, •After that,5.00 c/kWh (incl GST where applicable) applies for the rest of the billing
      period.

General Usage 33.957 cents per kWh
Daily Supply 138.028 cents per day

    • Looks like EA's high solar feed in offers:
      Up to 15 kWh: 12c/kWh
      Over 15 kWh: 6.6c/kWh

  • +1

    Ouch time to shop around

  • Does anyone know what happens to federal + state electricity credits if we churn from current supplier? Thanks gang!

    • +1

      You get them paid out

      • Thanks gerenuk. Nice excuse to pocket $1,000 cash ha

        • +1

Sounds good. I’ve never paid a bill since solar install, so would rather $1k off the mortgage.

  • What is everyonea plan after uncapped FIT. I renewed for another 12 months at the end of May, but sounds like the days of decent FIT is ending…. Is amber a good option? 20kw solar panels 18kwh battery and 3 phase (15kw export).

    • Going to chat with the retention time next week. Plan up for renewal next month.

  • +1

Interested to hear how you go - I’ve been looking at red energy

    8c fit
    115.412 c/day supply
    29.722 c/kWh

    For my area in Queensland

    • +1

Is there a solar meter fee with Red?

  • +1

No not any that I can see l

    • Seems like Red is the go for me too - same rates for me in SE QLD

      • Is this uncapped ? And 3 phase compatible (15l export ) ?

        Next year will be interesting…

        • +1

Appears to be uncapped. FIT might be revised August 1. Going to call red tomorrow for further info.

          • +1

@deezenuts: Keen to hear your thoughts. I'm in SE QLD too.

            • +1

@ilikeit: Red have a demand charge! Sales rep pretty confident rates / FIT isn't changing (anytime soon). Do we trust Sales reps?

              • +1

@deezenuts: Hmmm I’ve checked their website and I don’t see any mention of a demand charge anywhere?

Unless it’s actually tied to your address like alinta - the house next door to me has no demand charge with Alinta while mine does have a demand charge - dodgy af electric companies

                • @holden74: Wow that is shady as hell!
Yeah the sales rep told me there would be a demand charge between 4-9pm

                • @holden74: That might be due to the neighbour having the old analog power meter, so they cant track it, and you having the smart meter?

                  • @massari: @massari neighbours either side of me solar

                    • +1

@deezenuts: So I’m not really sure where the best deal is for fitt anymore maybe it’s over they all have varying degrees of fitt but then balance that out with demand charges or higher supply kw charges

                  • +1

@massari: Yeah I think you’re correct I feel like demand charges for all electricity company are not far off

                    • @holden74: Has everyone checked their actual amount sold to grid and basing decision off that?
My 5kw system average during winter months sells about 14kw to grid, and 20 during summer, so for me a capped plan isn't too bad. Who else is in the same boat?

                      • @leeroys_dad: I have a big system summer months I send 800 plus back to the grid looks like I’ll be leaving the air conditioner on more

  • Looks uncapped as far as I can see
