Great machine if its for Uni/Work for productivity. I bought one last year with different specs, had some issues where the computer crashed when changing a wifi connection so I replaced the wifi card myself. Works perfectly after that.

    • Nice! was that after the warranty period? Just wanted to know if the warranty applies to AU?

      • IIRC only the 30 days Amazon Returns & Refund policy

      • Within warranty but I needed my computer and didn’t want to wait for it to be returned to me. Besides, I knew the fix would be simple enough.

      • Beware that Lenovo warranty is non existent if the machine is purchased from Amazon US via Amazon AU.

I bought 2 machines for my high school daughters. The first one developed a camera fault after 6 months or so, and then at 11 months mark the keyboard ALT keys and DEL keys stopped working. Then intermittently the keyboard would stop working all together. Logged the fault with Lenovo as Amazon didn't accept return at that date. After 4-6 weeks of emails back and forth with Lenovo AU (which was the team that the machine sent the fault log to), they refused to fix the issue as it was not bought from an Amazon AU store.

Had to buy a third machine for my daughter (went with an Acer Swift 3 from TGG - no touch screen but lighter and when on sale was as cheap as this).

The second machine is now sitting as a spare machine and used with a USB keyboard.

So with the pain I went through, I now refuse to buy these machines that come through Amazon AU from Amazon US. Be warned.

PS can also vouch that the pen is not great with touch reliability also

did you complain to Amazon US? They've great customer care - better than Amazon AU.

          • +1

@wots: Didn't try to be honest. I have all the evidence still on record with the date and time of fault logged with screen captures and diagnostics tests video recording. Thought Lenovo would be more useful but that turned out to be so disappointing.

Once the keyboard stopped working and my daughter had to use it for school, I had to plug in a USB keyboard to get functional, then got a very portable bluetooth keyboard connected so that she can do the work at school. I had a heavier older laptop that she could use whilst who knows how long we would be without a laptop whilst it was being serviced. Well that didn't even work out so I then had to go out and buy her a replacement laptop.

            Poor form Lenovo.

Would Amazon US do anything about it now it's 14-16 months post purchase date?

            • @x d: Probably. They are pretty good with their return policy, I think more so if you rarely use the return functionally. Give it a go, the worst they can say is no.

              • @dread22: Thanks. Will consider giving it a go and post back…

Meanwhile, there is no such thing as Lenovo international warranty in Australia for this item.

                • @x d:

                  Lenovo warranty is non existent

But you purchased it from Amazon AU so that's who you contact for a warranty claim. They can't refuse to help you if it's still under warranty.
                  https://www.accc.gov.au/business/treating-customers-fairly/c…

                  • @WatchNerd: There is a gray area there. This product shouldn't be sold out of the US market (hence why they are so cheap to us), and yes, the warranty is fully transferable, if you can prove you purchased it and used it primary in the states before moving internationally. In saying this Amazon would still offer support (return) beyond ACCC (Minus damage or wear and tear, which they claim to check). You are pretty much sweet for 180-days with amazon (which half a warranty for half the price)

                • @x d: There is and this is a case of you don't fall into the correct category to transfer a Lenovo US warranty into Australian (temp). If you contact Lenovo AU, they will fix under warranty if you can prove you used this in its intended market and also purchased it in that market. I tested this and a Plane ticket showing dates after purchase going from the US to AU is more than enough.

            • @x d: "Would Amazon US do anything about it now it's 14-16 months post purchase date?"

You purchased this off Amazon AU, so they will support you (Not Amazon US). There is no harm in asking and I have gotten things refunded 4-years after I purchased them (quoting NSW trading practices around the length of a warranty, not what the manufacture states, but what the Average person would expect (I believe this is NSW only).

Keep in mind 14-16 (although this maybe ongoing for you), is still outside the Australia claim windows.

Either way I wish you the best of luck and it's sad to see someone has had such as crappy experience with the last gen as they are ace (given they are 100% working).

              Hints:
              1. Consider trying another pen with screen issue. It maybe the pen and not the screen, which is a cheap fix
              2. "keyboard stopped" issue happened to a few friends after an update. You can use the on-screen keyboard to get around this. I have never experience this, but a restart solved this for those I know that had this issue, with 1 doing a driver rollback (1 time issue due to bugs)
              3. Another keyboard issue that affected certain keys was windows defaulting to UK in an update for Australian registered devices. Simply click ENG UK and change back to US

Lastly, if you get a resolution, you aren't happy with sell it (you'll likely still get a decent amount back for a 1.5-year-old machine). In saying this talk to Amazon first. If you have a good record, they may wish to do alot more than required to keep you happy (from my experience and reading others experiences also).

        • I have one of the 4500U series (and 4 of my mates have the same) and it's great. The US warranty was made clear & that was the reason you paid half the price we pay in Australia; and risk paying postage for a warranty claim. Not sure why you neg'd this as you got it cheap for a reason. Also, I use this, and a surface pro and I much prefer this for writing (also never heard of any major touch pen complaints, Although the upgrade pen is nice). You may have had one DOA, which could be returned at $0.

If you want full local support (and this goes to anyone reading), then buy the AU model. You will pay a lot more for much less, but if it buys you peace of mind, then it's worth it.

        • Pardon my ignorance, buy how do you "purchase from Amazon US via Amazon AU"?

  • Thanks for sharing, can anyone tell me if the hard drive can be upgraded to a 512/1TB?

    Thanks

Its a 256GB ssd. Just replace it with something with bigger storage.

  • Will it come with an Australian power cable?

    • As it's Amazon US, that is highly unlikely.

      • That's what I suspected.

        • +10

I am certain you can replace the power cable from the power brick.

        • You'll be able to replace the power cable end with an aussie cloverleaf or figure-8 cable (a few dollars from shops like CPL and ebay etc).

  • +2

Whoa great deal. I paid $1165 for basically the same except 512gb drive. I would totally have gotten this instead… It's exactly what i wanted and so much cheaper

PS: there's an error in your specs at one point where you say 4500U. You get it right in two other spots though

  • +12
  • The shipping, GST, and exchange rate push it up into the low 900s…

  • I have a similar CPU (4800U) and can say it's very impressive even with graphics

      Rtx 3060 ?

      • +1

        No.

      • use your 🧠

  • I recommended previous generation to someone and they had a ton of quality issues and had to return it. Not what you expect from lenovo but thankfully it was from Amazon so they could return it.

  • https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-ide… - This one just has 8GB of RAM vs 16GB on Amazon. Plus different processors.

    • +1

      And out of stock nationwide?

  • +1

I have a 4500 Flexx, I like it or what it is, but there are a couple of issues. Screen is very dull and even at full brightness needs a less than bright room environment. The pen is nowhere near as good as a samsung s-pen or apple pencil, and windows updates seem to break the keyboard driver every second time. BIOS updates resolve that issue.
I mainly write code on it and play Rocket League, and I have to reduce the quality significantly to get a decent framerate.
Still, at that price, worth it. Its convenient, plays some games and boots up quick, just don't expect a Holy Grail performance or screen wise.

The weight is listed at 5.09 pounds, @2.3kg That's very heavy for a 14 inch laptop. Does it really weigh that much?

    • Yeah I noticed that. Doesn't make sense when this 15.6" is 1.81kg.

    • A Lenovo rep confirmed it’s 1.5kg in the Q&A on Amazon.

And thanks OP, ordered. Decided to pay a bit more for the fast shipping so should have it next week!

    • +4

Their interest lies in getting a cheap laptop. Not everyones purchases have to have a political agenda.

    • +1

Agreed. I will only be buying AUS made laptops

    • +2

Did you just strip yourself naked? Coz what you're using and wearing are aiding China……

  • $960 to me. Not attractive.

  • For comparison, I think the best price available locally is this (i5 processor, only 8GB RAM, no pen), at $1006 after price matching Amazon.

    • The ram is the killer. You cannot upgrade the ram in these hence the 16GB is so expensive in the AU models. If you don't require 16GB in the future, then this is an okay option for the price. If you can deal with 8GB, then I'd hold out for Lenovo deals or 3rd party deals such as this Flex i7-1165G7/16GB/512GB SSD AU$999

    This or my Lenovo Yoga 7i 14” 16GB RAM / 512GB 2in1?

    • +1

Same consideration, do you have good price for the Yoga? Thanks

      • I got the yoga for 1.4k and seems to be hard to get nowadays

        • 1.4 k is out of my range got 1k max atm so this might be it. Thanks

        • you mean this one ?
I pefer yoga than flex 5

          • @pikachupw: How come you prefer the yoga? And is it worth the $500 extra

  • just wondering if we signed up Prime US, would it be waived off the $26.38 Shipping to Australia?

    • I have prime, and shipping is not free. Still shows $26.38 Amazon Global Shipping.

      • appreciated

  • Just a heads up the USB C port on these doesn't support DP. Only supports one external monitor. (Found out the hard way on a 15" version)

    https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/IdeaPad/IdeaPad_Fle…

    • +1

I have a similar situation with my old Asus. Bought a cheap displaylink usb adapter. Now runs 2 monitors with ease.

  • Bought the same one a year ago even cheaper. Easile upgraded it to 1 Tb SSD. In general, a good laptop, the weakest point is the body made of a very poor plastic. Just a year old, but lots of scratches and broken corners.

    • Can charge it with usb c charger? I have a few usb c mac charger laying around. Thanks

      • +1

I have last year's model and I've always used USB C to charge

  • I ordered this at 1.30 pm on Friday and it has cleared customs in Melbourne a little over 48 hours later. I did pay the extra ~AU$15 for the fastest delivery option but this is amazing service.

  • Very tempting. I was after a windows based 2-in-1 but kinda gave up on the idea of a windows based tablet due to lack of a decent tablet experience.

But at this price, I get what I would have paid for a laptop plus the tablet functionality if I wanted it.

I'm just not sure I want to spend this much and not have Australian warranty.
