I've owned a few füri knives over the years, and don't really like them. The handles are too smooth and slippery, and the knives don't feel balanced. I much prefer the global knives, and also some WMF knives that I own.

      Different strokes for different folks..
They're perfectly balanced for my liking and I prefer the smooth handles.
I'm not a fan of their blocks though.. All that plastic just looks a bit tacky!
(EDIT: Although this states it's a wooden block and a Stainless Steel Trim Black Knife Block.. I'm gunning for the latter, I don't think Furi do Wooden Blocks)

Yep, completely agree, and if you like füri knives this is a great deal. Probably best to head to a knife store and test them out first though (as you should for any decent knife investment).

      • Whoops! That's some lazy copy pasting. Furi do do a wooden block but this one is definitely ugly and plastic

  • +1

Big fan of Furi knives, but the block is crap. Put a magnetic strip on the wall and you're all good.

Well I payed about $130 on ozbargain for the furi set that is like half this size..

  • Sorry but IMHO these knives are hyped and no better than countless 'generic' sets that sell for a fraction of their price.

Loads of independent 3rd party info around supporting this, this one is quite good as the guy is a very highly regarded expert in the sharpening community:

Enjoy this tidbit I found this gem on the zknives site as well:

"As Furi marketing brochure says: "Fully forged from finest German alloy, tampered to 56HRC", blah, blah. It's not even an ok performer, and according to many accounts, from respectable people, those Furis underperform severely. I've had a Furi cleaver for sharpening and testing a while ago, and it only confirmed other reports I've had before. Edge holding is simply horrible.

That besides the really awkward handle and weird blade geometry. Furi site, is a perfect example of lots of marketing BS mixed up with some truth and half-truth. Edge holding is sub-par, even compared to the cheaper knives at the same hardness. No wonder they promote 40° angle, lower that, and oh so supreme Furi knife won't last long enough for Rachael Ray to finish her 30 minute show. If you're into that type of knives(why?), or you want them because she uses them, then the set of 3 can be purchased for around 60$, considering their performance, or lack of it, that is severely overpriced.

Frankly, those knives belong to the garbage bowl she uses, not to the good kitchen. Still, she has her reasons to use them, and gets some profit out of it too, what's your reason?"

Want more…? Here's another bit from the Cooking Cache knife reviews (again very thorough and has reviewed LOADS of knives), under their 'KNIVES TO AVOID section:
"Furi Knives: Furi offers several lines and the knife we tested was the Rachael Ray Knife with gusto grip model FUR827. This is an exceptionally mediocre knife. The orange handle is poorly fitted and uncomfortable to hold. The blade was dull out of the box and we found rusting issues on the blade. The overall quality of the steel used does not seem to be very good since the knives don't hold an edge very long even after we professionally re-sharpened the knives. A general rule of thumb is to avoid products that are marketed by a celebrity. In this case we think you would be well advised to heed this advice. Overall we give this knife a D. "

Caveat emptor folks. Much better buys out there than these. :-)

  • Gee, even Choice Magazine rated Furi the BOTTOM/WORST of an 8" Chef's knife review it did!!!!

    http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/household/kitchen…

Honestly, they are mediocre knives that are sold on:
    1. their similarity in design to Global knives
    2. Celebrity chef endorsements (mainly in the US market)
    3. Confusing, contradictory or incorrect technical info on their website.

If those who bought them love them, great - thats a good thing as you're stuck with them now - but for those thinking of buying DYOR before putting your hard earned down for something decidedly ordinary.
