Ah you beat me, I was just posting. What a great deal!
I don't need it and I'm still tempted!

    • Neither do I, but this deal is so good maybe I'll get one for PS5. I mean, this price just seems silly tbh, or it's making my head silly.
Edit: deal lomg gone anyway, whoops.

      • Keep an eye on it. This deal has come back from the dead once already!

  • I have Prime but postage doesn’t seem free to me. Eta March 16

Yupz both my Amazon Prime and non Prime accounts show $7.51 delivery, not much but I thought international purchases was free if spending $49 or above on an international item?

    • Has to be a Prime item. Lots of stuff has delivery especially heavy or bulky stuff. Sometimes they just randomly make them Prime and that's when you cash in.

The SN750 version $308 with free postage at Amazon,. not sure the differences with this SN850 but I'm guessing speed but another option for those on a budget,..

    WD_Black SN750 2TB Gen3 PCIe M.2 2280 NVMe,… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07M9VXSXG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…

    • Gen3 vs 4

    • massive difference between the two. For starters, the OP is a Gen 4, were the SN750 is a Gen3.
read/write speeds up to 7000/5300MB/s (1TB model) and up to 1,000,000 IOPS (1TB and 2TB models) for the 850
Sequential read performance: 3100MB/s. Sequential write performance: 1600MB/s for the 750

      • +1

Thankyou, got that but what about the OP's Gen4 850 on a motherboard that is only Gen 3.0 board (example x470 motherboard) using the x470 main m.2 port,.. is that main port slower to reduce the top speed performance of the OPs Gen4 850 m.2 drive? Or close maybe in performance, I know the actual PCIe ports offer different top speeds but with graphics cards even the latest new ones, I've read there is no difference using PCIe 3.0 or PCIe 4.0 for graphics cards cause they don't reach the bandwidth speeds on a PCIe 3.0 port

Basically what I'm asking does the required bandwidth for this OPs m.2 drive (SN-850) exceed the bandwidth on a PCIe 3.0 m.2 port? I'm sure too daily use most will not notice? And I can see everyone is chasing these for the new PS5, I guess transferring games to memory of course is faster on these types of drives will be noticeable increased with shorter times over slower m.2 drives, maybe I've just answered my own original question lolz

        • not sure why u were downvoted..

like there's plenty of ppl who would want to save some $$ and not get the fastest thing they can buy/if their mobo doesnt support it…
and for those who are using it on a ps5/already know they need a gen4…

its like putting in 98ron fuel in a nissan datsun…

and dont the gen4 sn850 version run hot as hell vs the gen3 stuff?

real world gen3 and gen4 would be like 1-2 secs diff boot/loading time
maybe copying large files and video editing stuff you'll notice on a gen4 compatible system….

        • +2

If your motherboard does not have PCI-E gen 4 M2 slot, then you cannot take advantage of the speed of a Gen 4 SSD. Just stick to a Gen 3 SSD, they are cheaper.

Just bought and Prime member with no free shipping so took fast shipping $17. This is an amazing price…..Been waiting for sub $400 and here it is.

  • Is this the best drive for PS5?

    • One of the 4 best. Others are Samsung 980 Pro and Sabrent and the Seagate Firecuda. All very similar, though this drive WD Black SN850 was the choice of Mark Cerny the chief PlayStation designer for PS4 and PS5. Great drive for PS5.

      • I guess this is the best for bang for buck out of the 4x top drives you mentioned above for a PS5 or generally for a PC build?

        • I'd say so, firecuda has a little bit higher performance but this WD is usually cheaper than the Seagate

No heatsink with this version in case anyone was wondering.

      • Is adding a heatsink for PS5 use a challenge? Is it pretty generic or need a specific heatsink to match?

    • +1

Best yes, although pretty much any gen 4 drive performs identically to the stock PS5 drive.

Cheapest was the PNY 2TB one for $300 last year

  • Sadly can't seem to purchase this, tried buy now and add to cart and both just don't work :(

  • My purchase went through one hour ago.

They just banged the price from $344 Amazon UK back up to $508 Amazon US…..

  • +1

Back to $508 and from the US now.

  • very nice. but i'm waiting to get a ryzen 6000 notebook or to build a ryzen 7000 pc. This is the type of SSD I will want.

  • Didn't need it so thought too long. Wonder when local prices will be this low

  • +3

    Back down again to $344.

  • Impuse buy strikes again! Well at least delivery isn't until mid march, so i have about 1 week to cancel the order if I don't want it. Thanks. Op

    • Hope they send the correct capacity this time!

      • +1

Yea It seems like a gamble because I just noticed under Details, it says Digital storage capacity 2TB, but then Hard disk size 1TB.

        • But the normal price kind of relates to 2tb version yeah?

      • +1

        Arrived today. 2tb :)

  • Phenomenal price! thanks OP.

  • -6

As my post above as for this price really thinking of getting this,.. so question will this get full speeds on a x470 motherboard that only supports PCIe 3.0 so is my motherboard main m.2 lower in bandwidth then on a PCIe 4.0 boards m.2 main slot x570 motherboard?

Umm this price is so good, I'm thinking still worth getting this for the 2TB capacity, speed performance I haven't searched but I'm guessing this price is around what the slower nvme 2TB drives are?

  • Purchased, been waiting for a while to expand PS5 storage.
    Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP! Been waiting for a decent gen4 ssd deal for a while. Glad i held off slightly cheaper but inferior ssd deals recently.

Finally can take a full advantage of x570 motherboard.

  • I see people mentioning getting ssd for ps5 in various threads and that it requires a heat sink. Is it that important to add a ssd to the ps5? Games take up that much space on it? Not even 1tb but 2tb one.

Also, how will warranty work for this ssd if it's from the UK?

    • +1

WD support have told me before the warranty claim process would be no different if you'd purchased from Australia.

      • I see, thanks! For future reference

    • +3

Is it that important to add a ssd to the ps5?

Only if you play lots of different games at the same time. Otherwise you can offload your old PS5 games to a HDD or external SSD (note that you can't play PS5 games directly off the external drives, you can only store them there).

I've held out against buying an SSD for this reason. There are some games like Call of Duty Warzone which are 100GB+ so these are the main culprits for eating up all your space. A lot of the newer PS5 native games are fairly well optimised and usually smaller than this.

With PS4 games, you can play them directly off an external HDD/SSD so no worries there.

      • +1

Thanks for your reply. I have a ps5 but just wasn't sure if it is like a given that one must add ssd to it to have enough space since so many people mention it.

    Sub $300 waiting room

    • -1

      At $301 you're not buying?

  • Surely they're price matching some retailer somewhere, it's so cheap.

Can anyone recommend a ps5 heatsink for this?

    Thanks in advance :)

    • +2

Get the sabrent one on amazon for $34.99. Don't think, just get it.

      • Thanks bought one

  • Did they Pull the Parts From this Drive ?

  • +1

Wow this was fast. Placed the order this morning, and just got a shipping notification email.

    • Yes me too. Estimated delivery Tuesday March 1st as I paid the $17 for expedited delivery. Highly doubt it will come from the UK to Sydney by this Tuesday..lol.
Ordered a 3rd party Jonsbo Heatsink to go with it. Hopefully have both of these before GT7 this Friday but not holding my breath.

      • +1

I jus chose normal postage. It's being shipped via Australia Post. Wish me luck.

        • Mine now Expedited fast ship to arrive 4-9th March. Figured I had saved enough on the SSD to go against OzB age old tradition and splurge on the shipping lol. It will be interesting to see if my SSD arrives any earlier than standard shipping. On many occasion they travel the exact same path from the UK, so I may have blown the $10 difference!!

          • @klaatu: has yours arrived? Mine arrived today. Im actually amazed that AusPost delivered it pretty fast

            • @BlitzR: Yes mine arrived yesterday 1.30pm 09/03/22. A day late with all the Sydney flooding. Added to PS5 and works great.

Instant buy if you're looking for an NVME SSD

  • Whew deal expired but I still had it in my card and was able to buy for $344

    • Dunno why it's saying expired. You can still get the deal by clicking the other sellers and it will come up

    • Here's direct link to the Amazon UK seller - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08KFRFL8F?smid=A3JCEYBC5L8UJ8

I'm wondering before I commit to buy, what 2TB NVMe are rated for greater endurance than 1200 TBW…

      • Delivery after 1 month or more though…

  • -1

Whichever 2TB cracks $300 for my ps5 gets my business.

And all those smart dudes telling me 8 weeks ago it will never crack $500 due to shortage.. hand in your ozbargain membership!

    • -1

It is still very likely SSD prices are going to rise over the coming weeks / months at least partially due to the NAND contamination where they lost 6.5 exabytes of NAND. It has been all through the news. Id jump at this if you are in the market for an SSD. Obviously I could be completely wrong…

  • Gone again right now. See if it comes back

  • +1

For anyone gonna use this for your PS5, mine came with the latest firmware, so you may not need to install to your PC to update.
