380

Hi all

I haven't posted a deal in a long time so I went looking for bargains to post. Seems most of my shopping is purchasing from other OzBargain posts rather than shopping naturally.

Here we have a Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT Pulse 20GB GPU for $1,099 with FREE shipping from Centre Com. Free shipping excludes WA, NT & remote areas. Surcharges: 0% for bank deposit, Afterpay & Zip Money. 1.2% for VISA / MasterCard & PayPal. 2.2% for AmEx.

It shows as in stock whilst most other retailers have cleaned out their inventory. These are hot items given the underwhelming Nvidia paper launch.

HODL, 9070XT around the corner and according to AMD own slide which was taken out of CES, it's on par with the 7900 XT.

    https://preview.redd.it/if-the-9070-xt-performs-at-rx-7900-x…

      "I don't HODL a hose, mate"

      - Scott Morrison

    • o they skipped 8000 and wite to 9000 lol

      • +3

Yup lol they renamed it for an unknown reason and named it 70/70 XT to compete with the 5070/5070 ti

As they are only targeting mid market gpus this time around

        • +3

Finally they have done something to compete for real.

      • +3

If I'm not mistaken according to rumours they are reserving the RX 8000 name for their mobile GPUs

    • +14

Considering how the AUD is losing value I’m thinking the new GPUs will end up much more expensive than this deal.

    • +3

Take non-specific AMD marketing slides with a pinch of salt (like when NVIDIA claims 4090 peformance from the 5070). It's no secret that the 9070 XT will be a mid-range card with less memory and memory bandwidth and fewer compute units and stream processors than the 7900 XT.

If it can beat the 7900 GRE at raster performance with much better ray tracing performance for a lower price, it'll still be a good product.

    • 16gb VS 20gb :) but i guess the 9070XT will use less power.

At the rumored US$699 price and US$549 for the 9070 non XT we are looking at

$1249 for 9070XT and $869 for the 9070XT but the RTX 5070 will also cost $869

      The 9070XT = 4080 Super 3% slower then a 5080
      The 9070 = 4070 ti

Both will be way faster then the RTX 5070

      I included 10% GST

      • +1

Got to note as well RDNA4. We will have to wait and see what this architecture offers

      • +1

Is the 5070 really going to be $869? I could've sworn the pricing I saw had it listed as around $1100. That said not sure how reliable that source was but it was pretty close on 5080/5090 pricing.

  • is there actually going to be a 8000 series soon?

    • +2

It's been decided to be named 9000 series. Coming in March according to AMD.

  • I wonder if this will be good value for Ai workloads. Hooked on being able to run my own AI offline not rely on the next crazy sociopath that manages an AI company and thinks they are Napoleon.

  • Good deal at the moment. Tempted to pull the trigger. This will be to complete a secondary Linux/Steam OS rig… May HODL for 9070XT and FSR 4 but could be the wrong call if Tariffs screw things or AMD get greedy on pricing after the terrible 5000 series uplift.

    • +4

I waited months for the 5XXX series which turned out to be a shambles and ended up buying a 4080S anyway

      • +3

Regretting not getting a 4080 (non super) for my main rig when they reached 1350 a while back!

    • +1

Either it's great value or I stick with my 6800xt until UDNA and whatever its contemporaries drop. No biggie since there's no rush to play single player games and all the multiplayer stuff runs at 200FPS plus.

    • +22

Just a few more of these copypasta posts mate and I promise your Nvidia stock value will go up, I BELIEVE IN YOU

    • +5

Lmfao the uninformed much 😂 yeah shit ai from a 2022 product that still does great in the hot deepseek all the rage atm kicking the tech bros. Also raw raster is high, sure take the fake frames tell me how special they make you feel having the number go bigger but not actually making the experience better and adding artifacts. But but jensen said if i buy more i save more and 5070 = 4090 performance 🍿

    • +3

I don't care for AI and don't use fake frames and upscaling. AMD is the powerhouse for a pure experience.

    • +1

Good luck with RT, Nvidia is better than Amd in RT however most Nvidia cards still struggle to run RT at 4k@60 fps. Then you add DLSS and see shimmering and artefacts, then you add frame gen and get poor latency. It’s one of those things that on paper seem impressive until you actually try in practice.

Much rather play with no RT, real frames, less latency and saving money then throw lots of money for a superior bad experience.

And to be honest in most images I see RT on and off I actually like the RT off fake illumination more, seems to add more contrast to the game and make everything more dramatic whereas the realist RT lights makes things look a bit dull and boring. But that is really a personal preference. If you are into RT go for it, AMD is not your card or maybe wait for the 9070 XT.

      • I dunno.
        I like using DLSS.
I'm a casual gamer and using DLSS performance and frame generation I can do 100fps +-20 at 2k in cyberpunk (no ray tracing though)
This is with a cheap 4060ti.
Everything looks a million bucks, in the artifacts are quite rare. In fact, there is a new transformer model (preset k) that looks much better than stock.

In the entry level segment, (for the same money) I would buy NVIDIA again.
Just because of DLSS4 allows you to stretch the GPU to support resolutions and fps you could not do natively.

Now, if I could get an AMD or Intel that can do those same fps natively, the choice is obvious.

I'm aware both AMD and Intel have their own upscalers and frame generation, but they don't look as good unfortunately. Though I hope they get to speed soon

  • Got a 7900xtx pulse i picked up for 1k used. Memory temps sit at 95 degrees, where as core temls ait at 75ish.
This is an itx case with less than ideal airflow. Fans can get noisy too. Judt a heads up

    • 7900xtx ITX lol haha

      • Please elaborate

        • +1

why are you complaining about high temps after stuffing a 7900XTX into an ITX case, what did you expect would happen

        • -1

ITX case is small with not many cooling options, you're not meant to use hot cards like AMD cards - best maybe dual fan NVIDIA or something similar.

          • +1

@djmm: 75 degrees core temps is completely fine. The memory temp isnt great but falls in line with the reference design's memory temp. This was before any undervolting. Yall dont know what youre talking about. In my original post i was just trying to point out that the pulse models memory cooling config was less than optimal in the pulse cooler design. Seems to be common
            https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/s/u8rog2vsV6

7900xtx in an itx case is completely fine, not sure where youre getting your misconception from

  • +3

don't know if it's a good thing (for me) or bad (for everyone else) that the price hasn't changed since i posted this same deal (and bought one for myself) back in April.

    great card, nonetheless…

  • +3

Here is a graph showing the cost per frame vs other GPU's available today. The prices are based on available prices online (with the exception of the 5080 and 5090 which currently aren't in stock).

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/47948/119539/20250204-…

    • Where's the graph from?

      • +2

rmh's own if I'm not mistaken

        • +1

indeed it is, keen to see where the 9070xt and 9070 will sit when the benchmarks are in and we see some aussie pricing for aib's, around the same time should also be the 5070ti and 5070 too. This is where the real competition will hopefully be to drive some good prices (fingers crossed). It's not like AMD have screwed up a seemingly easy victory in the past though…

          • @rmh: So if you were in the market for a GPU right now, what would you do? Price point of about $1,000 so I’m discounting a 5080 or above.

            1) 7900 XT
            2) Wait for 9070 XT
            3) Wait for the 5070
            4) Something else

            • +1

@cnut: I ended up grabbing one. If AMD don't hit that sweet spot for the new 9070 XT (499 USD), everyone is going to be buying up this card if its still available at this price. In addition since everyone is so starved for new GPUs, and cause the 50X0 series isn't in stock, I expect retailers to pump the price of the 9070 due to demand.

  • I’ve heard this Sapphire version has a few issues with internal thermal paste or something? Does anyone have any insight?

    • +1

I have had this exact card since April last year (Same price as this deal from Centre Com) and I have had not one issue with it.
Keep in mind it a big card 3 slots plus 1 slot for the mounting bracket which you will need if it's mounted horizontally.

      • +1

Legend thanks mate pulled the trigger. Upgrading from a 1070 so very keen to get this.

        • That's a massive upgrade mate. Enjoy :)

  • Any insight on getting VFIO or gpu passthrough sorted with this type of card?

  • +2

Note: I signed up for a free account and they gave me a $5 coupon, bringing this down to $1,094 delivered!

  • tempted to switch to team red by the lackluster 5080 ($2k seriously), similar performance to 4070ti super but $300 cheaper with 4gb more vram. I don't know if the new AMD cards will be better than this and if they'd be cheaper going by what is happening.

I don't know if cards this performance will be this price again. Currently have a 3080 10gb so will survive but the future isn't looking great. I don't use DLSS etc.

  • Same price (pre-order) at Amazon, for what it's worth: https://www.amazon.com.au/Sapphire-Pulse-Radeon-7900-20GB/dp…

    • I wonder if they’ll actually get more stock. I thought this was EOL.

      • Certainly there doesn't seem to be much stock around at the moment, but I haven't read anything about the 7900 XT or 7900 XTX being discontinued, only the 7900 GRE.

  • +2

Use the coupon code MINGLES to save an additional $14 (effectively removes the credit card surcharge).
