Found this Makita mower kit at C&L selling at $879: https://www.cltoolcentre.com.au/makita-dlm535pg2-36v-6-0ah-5…

  • 21" (534mm) heavy-duty steel deck
  • High power brushless motor provides 2,800rpm
  • 10-stage height adjustment
  • 70L catcher
  • Includes 2 x 6Ah 18v batteries (to form 36v) and a dual-port charger

You can redeem a Makita line trimmer (DUR192LZ, skin only) at https://www.makita.com.au/promotions (ends 31/03/2022, claim by 15/04/2022).

Bunnings sells it at $999 and lists it as a special order (they don't have stock in store): https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-534mm-21-18v-x-2-brushles…

Narellan Bunnings (NSW) was happy to price match and beat it by 10%. I ordered it for just $791.10 eventually: https://imgur.com/a/aMDNdaz

Lucky they directly matched the base price (not including the shipping cost) for me without asking. But they would generally match the price nationally anyway according to this post.

I asked them last weekend about when the order will come and they said no later than 15 March, so it should be ok to come by the end of March to redeem the line trimmer.

You can redeem the line trimmer now…you just need the receipt to show you have paid in full
You’ll probably get the line trimmer before the mower.

It’s a big mower. I have the 18” and that is a beast for a 1/4 acre lot

    • Thanks mate. I just submitted with the receipt

    • You are right. I got the trimmer today and the mower still hasn't arrived yet…

      • Cancel the order, then reorder and reclaim another line trimmer….ha ha

        • Snipper Dual Wield is overpowered !

  • Price seems great, especially with the bonus whipper snipper..
Unfortunately reviews for this mower doesn't seem very great.

    • Do you have the link to the reviews?

      • im wondering the same, many reviews out there for other/smaller Makita mowers that blow, but not much to be seen for this one

      • My bad.. it seems to be a whole range of Makita 36V mowers, not this particular model

    • The issue with the 535 model is that the handles do not fold so not so great if you need to store in a smaller area.

The 464 I have had pretty good reviews
Like I said, it’s great for typical 1/4 acre block
I have 6AH batteries and they last 2-2.5 mows when just using the mower on high
If I use them for mower, whipper snipper and blower, they last just the one use which is great

The 464 had a change to the rear opening, which they made as wide as the mower, previously was half as wide.
    My two areas they could improve;
    1. The safety handle needs a bit of pressure to keep close to the main handle when using - gets tiring
    2. They should have quick lock mechanism rather than the spin wheels on the handle

Charge after each use, Lithium lasts longer when you charge early.

        This.

  • If I didn't already have the DLM464 I'd jump on this deal.

  • I have the 464, it's great. Crushes my 360m2 of Kikuyu on a single pair of 5ah batteries.

Pretty sure this model has slightly fewer RPMs than the 464

  • If it suggests it can do 2300m² in a four battery setup, does that basically mean that with two batteries, you should be able to do 1150m²?

  • I have had dlm464 for a year which has been great. The only time I was able to stall it on high speed is when I was cutting back thick couch grass to dethatch. Slowing down helped.

  • This or the comparable Ego (520 mm, 7.5 AH self propelled, bonus blower)?

    • This one isn't self propelled. Are you referring to the LMLB2135E-SP which costs $1149?

      • Yes, that's correct..https://egopowerplus.com.au/52-cm-self-propelled-mower-select-cut/

It's not a straightforward comparison. The cutting width is similar, but ego is self propelled and the Makita has a steel deck. A better comparison would be with the self-propelled Makita (https://www.cltoolcentre.com.au/makita-dlm532pt4x-18vx2-5-0a…).

The blower that comes with the ego is more useful for me (already have a line trimmer), but being in the Makita ecosystem has its benefits, so I'm a little undecided. :(

        • Until I could match this mower's price at Bunnings, I was also deciding between the two as I'm already in the Makita ecosystem but Ego definitely has an excellent reputation.

Also just FYI, Makita mowers used to have blower bonus as well, so you could wait as well: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/659817

          • @gaosong2101: Thanks for sharing! The plastic deck on the ego is keeping me on the fence.I wonder if it's sturdy enough to withstand a few odd rocks in the backyard?

Maybe I'll pick up a second hand one for now and get a steel deck electric mower when a blower bonus redemption comes out again.
