Not as cheap as the current Ozito or ALDI Ferrex deals, but much better quality and also has the benefits of CAS batteries, which I went on a rant about.

Redeem 1 x 18V 5.5 CAS battery with a RRP of $179

Redeem 2 x 18V 5.5 CAS batteries + air cooled charger with a RRP of $487!

  • What do with my skin until they deliver?

I wouldn't call it a rant, good on you for bringing it to light, good discussion. I might show this deal to my dad who is interested in a battery lawn mower but (very) resistant to battery lockin.

  • +1

The mower is coming up as $569

  • OP, you need to balance battery lock in with a good deal.

For example, this Katana 16" brushless chainsaw was $120 with bonus 2 batteries & charger. Yes it's only 4Ah vs 5.5Ah, but it was $120 vs $539/69. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788078 (another deal, but this has chainsaw details).

As far as I can tell that deal didn't include batteries, which would be another $230. That deal is also no longer available (so total price is now $430 vs $540), and you're still locked into the batteries of an obscure brand that only appears to be stocked at Burson Auto, as opposed to an internationally respected brand that is at multiple stockists, such as Total Tools, Trade Tools, Sydney Tools, Bunnings Online, etc. and I expect will grow in Australia.

Deal was posted here with 2 batteries and charger for $120: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/823106 - trust me, I bought one.

I just linked the one where it was just chainsaw by itself, rather than confuse you with all the other tools.

  • Why specifically lock in on the benefits of the CAS battery world and not even mention the other competing 'universal' battery systems (AMPshare is the one I'm thinking about, but I'm sure others have some form of this too, particularly the Euro brands)?

Unless you specifically have in mind to buy from one of those, rather obscure, additional brands then there really isn't much point in this being a deciding factor - especially these days with the prevalence of adapter's which are easily obtainable.
