The one I got my kids became a paperweight 😭, so I've recently started reading
If you don't use it - paperwhite becomes a paperweight.
This is probably the cheapest it will get till Prime day/Boxing day.
They are pretty consistent with their discounts of "new" kindles.
This or kobo? What's the best.
You are opening up a can of worms here.
You will see both sides of the argument in response to you, IE
For Kobo;
"You aren't supporting amazon/bezo's by buying this" (Even though the kobo is made by Rakuten who are another massive company).
You can use library software (overdrive) which isnt available on the kindle.For Kindle:
Better screen (bigger and looks nicer)
USB C (VS usb micro)
Waterproof.
Access to Kindle unlimited (which is a great deal if you like the books that is on it)My opinion?
This generation of paperwhite is significantly better then the current Kobo.
The Kobo Libra 2 has USB-C, is waterproof, and has the same panel (except slightly larger) as the latest Kindle.
Out of the two the Kobo is probably the better one (especially if you're going to take advantage of Overdrive), the only reason I went with the Paperwhite personally was the price at the time as I wasn't sure how much it would actually get used.
Is comparing a $280 device with a $180 device a valid comparison ?
@Tiggrrrrr: About $40 difference between the RRPs
@dav3: "This or kobo? What's the best."
This = 189
Kobo Libra 2 = 289@Tiggrrrrr: Not smart enough to work out the difference between best and cheapest?
My previous experience with all Kobo and Kindle (Used Kobo H20, Kobo Libra, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Oasis) wasn't outstanding in highlighting as highlighting was quite slow. Overall, the devices were not fast. I am using this Kindle, and it doesn't have this issue. The page turns fast, and till now, no slow highlighting plus a bigger screen.
My Kobo is broken , now want to try Kindle .
Kobo can support multi file type .e.g. mobi , epub .etc.
That's not a major issue. Calibre can do the conversion. Its free.
When millions of people are in lockdown you expect them to share books. Get a kindle. We don't live in 1931.
It has been 199.00(17% off ) in Amazon one week ago . Maybe try office for price match ?
No price match, officework already change their price internally to 199.00 , even price tag is still 239.00 on the display .
Why do I always read this as kindle paperweight🤷
