    Got one. Love it.
The image has a lot of digital noise, but the upsides are sharp, and high frame rate.
Also works well in the dark.
Noise is just the cost for high iso.

      • +1

Webcams dont work well on specs alone.
Especially when your face on a call is usually smaller than 720p.

if you want to send me one and i'll let you know; but for now im thrilled with my creative.

      • Can you confirm if this on amazon is the same as that on ebay?https://www.amazon.com.au/VIOFO-Microphone-Rotatable-Streaming-Conferencing/dp/B087Q565C6

        • Looks to be the same model. In Amazon, under the description, I found the same model number.

      • Just purchased this from Amazon. Looks to be like a good camera. Amazon always has flexible return options and it is way lesser in price than the one on ebay!

    • I'm really happy with mine too, can't really fault it. Had it for about a year now. Good price.

    • there is a reason why this is 50 bucks if your wanting a decent stater webcam get a Logitech c922 pro its a great starter webcam and for most streamer is one of the best.

  • +4

Bought one just before Christmas one a similar deal. Much better than my built in webcam.

  • +2

Heard that this cam has a very high FOV, great for streaming but maybe not WFH.

    • +1

as per specs from the website it says 77°, compared to others which are like 110° or 120°

      • Thanks I thought this was a 110 as well. Do you know how this camera compares to the Logitech 922? There are a few second hand units around for $100 but I’m not sure if it’s worth the extra money or not.

        • logitech 922 is a bit better, but difficult to quantify in terms of doubling the price. i mean you pay 50 bucks, the 922 is like what? 120 bucks?
i only need it for work, so looking at the review here…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivV0Nq1Dha4
and the video quality, it does the job for me.
I suppose what the use is for at the end of the day. although i don't think 922 is twice as better as this one though.

          • @BlackMonk: Thanks. I just picked up a second hand 922 and very happy. Balanced lighting, the colours are good and its very crisp. Compared to some demo footage I've seen I'd recommend a second hand 920/922 over this Creative camera. My 922 cost me $60.

        • I have both the v1 and now the v2 creative webcams. Just gotta make sure you don’t have over-exposure ie. too much light. My WFH office gets abit too much direct sunlight so i would need to adjust the camera in the same direction to get the best results.

    • Its fine. Just crop it. OBS is free, and a portable app, so you can use it on a work PC even without install.

      • +3

Certain jobs would raise eyebrows about OBS on your computer. So not an option for all :)

        • -1

          True, but is for most.
Ive worked with banks, military, and law enforcement, and they were all cool.

We were not allowed to install apps; but so long as a portable program didnt try to access a network address, it was fine.

The second something tried to NAT that wasnt authorised, your phone is ringing lol.

Clearly exceptions exist, but those 3 sectors are pretty strict. So it'd be rare.

          • +6

@MasterScythe: from experience I can tell you there's absolutely zero chance a federal govt dept would let you run some random executable…

            • @harro112: Ah fair enough.
That'd be one of the rare examples I mentioned.

Still, now that windows10 has a bash shell, I'd be fun to see if you compiled locally and ran the linux version in the included bash shell as a child process, if it flagged anything.

            • -1

              @harro112: Or a bank…

            • -1

@harro112: Agree with harro112, app whitelisting

          • @MasterScythe: Very unique! I’ve found even portable apps are a big issue. But either way I don’t want anything perceived as personal ‘streamer’ on a work device.

            • @JSONBourne: Ah, most work has accepted streaming is common.
Teams and zoom is becoming more popular.
Each to their own I guess.

              Curious though;

What led you to find them a big issue?
Can it be story time please? :)

I worked in one area where they were 'blocked' but so long as I launched them from an approved process (like, used winword.exe to call obs.exe) it ran fine.

      • Has some lag unfortunately, a noticeable one

        • It shouldnt. Where is it being introduced?

          • @MasterScythe: MS Teams

            • @BargainCowboy: Then you cant blame the webcam if ms teams is introducing lag; its not in Discord or Zoom or Skype or OBS.

              Not the hardwares fault.

              • +1

@MasterScythe: Definitely not, I meant lag if using via OBS.

                • @BargainCowboy: Is it maxing out your CPU?
I just did a test between the raw output and OBS and Im seeing less than 3 frames of difference at 30fps.

Do you know what lane your USB ports run over on your chipset? Is there another usb controller to try? It sounds like a bottleneck somewhere more than anything; because its not a fault of OBS.

    • Yeah it has a wide FOV compared to my laptop. But you can always OBS it and narrow it down if you want.

  • +12

had it and hated it. sold it off on gumtree hours later.

video quality is pretty bad (subjective) - at best it was very meh, images are super noisy (grainy), certainly wasn't the improvement I expected it to be. If you sit in a room with a window on your left or right, the image will likely be overexposed on half your face or underexposed (in the dark) for the other half. Dynamic range is non-existent. If the window is behind you, either the window is completely blown out or you're in the complete dark, and you can't really choose which part of the frame to expose for when in a video meeting.

If you have an old spare android phone around, they can be turned into a webcam with much better image quality. You'll mainly need to figure out how to mount it, and it does get hot in use so hopefully it's an old phone you don't care all too much about.

Get this if you need a webcam, especially for a desktop, but don't expect any amazing quality video.

    • +3

Your phone battery will be a spicy pillow if you run it a lot as a web cam

      • You can't adjust for lack of dynamic range. Something will get blown out and overexposed regardless.

You might not be in the dark (if you adjusted the brightness or contrast), but the half of your face or the window behind will definitely be completely blown out and overexposed.

    • I found the dynamic range to be small but usable.
After the firmware update that is.

      • After the firmware update that is.

        How to update firmware?

        This?

        Didn't look like v2

  • +1

i had one, performs ok and got another one for a pi-motioneye project. (actually got it 10 hours ago but felt lazy to post it.)

  • How do they compare to the logitech c920?

    • Well, this is half the price of the C920. There are quite a few demos/tests on YouTube (the V1 and V2 are the same in terms of video quality): I'd suggest just watching a couple of them to see if it suits your needs.

      • I paid less for my C920 than this actually, that was two years ago tho

    • I prefer it. The weaknesses are easier to correct for.

I find denoise filters (which this needs) are way more effective than sharpen filters (which the c920 needs).

Also, this keeps the framerate a much better constant.

And works totally fine in the dark, where the c920 drops fps to up exposure.

      Horses for courses.

    • I got them to refunded me $5

      • Ordered today or in Dec ?

        • Bought before the deal you posted, they refunded $5 because of the 10% off.

  • Got one, thanks OP.

  • Got mine in December. Seems similar to the in build laptop cam in quality, however appreciate I don't have to crane my neck to face the laptop one, great purchase and love the privacy cap. Would recommend.

  • got it for the same price, good cam

  • +1

it works, but must do some manual adjustment in teams to make look normal. otherwise, over exposed and too bright on calls unless you sit in the dark

  • If colour not right you can use this to adjust

Got one of these just before Xmas and have been using it as part of my WFH setup. Might sound stupid but the main reason I got it was so that I could use my laptop exclusively in clamshell mode. Pretty happy with the webcam, good picture quality & mic. Wide FOV which might be a positive or negative depending on your use case.

    • +2

Totally a fair use case! More desk space and room for a 2nd monitor that way.

    • how long deliver took you remember? and what courier company they use? auspost?

      • They used AusPost, can't remember exactly how long it took but it was pretty quick roughly 3-4 days if I recall correctly.

  • Pay a bit more get ASUS C3…

  • +3

bought it before christmas, it is bad! don't recommend, my oil macbook air camera is far better

  • +3

I bought this on a last deal. It's basically barely above a potato. Don't bother don't waste your money

  • +1

I'm not sure what people are comparing it too when saying it's bad. I got one last year for WFH and everyone at work said "wow, you're so clear". I had noticed in Zoom the image was blurry, but then I just went into the video settings and clicked the "HD" checkbox and it uncropped the image to display the 1920 res.

Sure, it's no streaming camera but it's good for calls.

  • If not this, what's the best webcam for video calls that has the following:

    • Under $100
    • Can tilt (up/down, left right).
    • I'm fine if it doesn't move horizontal or vertical, just need to be able to tilt angles.
  • Good for WFH. It forced me to get more parts of my home office tidy due to its angle. The mic is probably its biggest downside IMO, so I bought a snowball on marketplace, as sometimes I have to do presentations and English is not my 1st language, so it has to be as clear as possible or peep no ondastand me.

    • Haha yeah god it's wide! Realised my tv left off in background the other day..

  • How does this compare to the Razer Kiyo X?

Paid $65 for it on Amazon Au Delivered.

  • Got this last deal, pretty good, except that on Linux, using the mic from this camera hangs zoom. Every other app is fine, and using another mic in zoom is fine. Go figure.

  • Have one, great bit of kit at the price and now I get a lot of compliments on my video calls. Actually now I think about it people just say "gee your camera is really clear"…hrmmmm

    • As long as they don't say "gee your camera is really clear… can you go back to your old one?"

    • got this on a recent deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/680014

I'm finding the video feed on discord has a green flash every 30 seconds or so.
Anyone else experience this or know how to fix? TIA!

    • don't buy this! i got this in previous sale, my builtin mac camera is far better! lot of noise and colors are not natural

      • If you’re on Mac this is a common problem. I’ve got a Microsoft webcam that’s absolutely horrible out of the box. Dunno if the generic driver has bad defaults, but check out an app called ‘webcam settings’, it allows you to control all the parameters. (Auto exposure, contrast, etc)

        • thanks, will check it out

  • I recently bought this webcam, however my monitor is really thin, so the webcam is really loosely placed on it. Is there a way to make it more stable?
