After a few requests in the last 3 Xiaomi Aqara Zigbee smart home deals I've managed to secure a deal on the Aqara Water Leak sensor.

This sensor is designed to detect water and once detected it can be configured to do tasks like sending a notification to your device or an alarm to your Xiaomi Zigbee gateway. The sensor is IP67 waterproof rated and has a replaceable button battery with 2 years of battery life.

A recent example for me where this sensor would have been useful is when my washing machine was leaking and started to ruin the wall behind it. Had this sensor been behind the washing machine it would have sent me alert once the water was first detected.

Like other sensors it requires the use of a Zigbee hub to function and it's compatible with many brands including Aqara, Xiaomi, Conbee and more. It supports Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Home Assistant.

  • Been looking for a similar Tuya based product.
    Any suggestions?

  • Sounds pretty good…. I know I'll regret it if I don't buy it and I have a peak

  • I don’t have other Xiaomi products, can I just connect it directly to a Aeotec (SmartThings) hub?

    • +1

i think so, that has zigbee doesn't it?

      • Yes, the Aeotec smart hub is just a rebranded Samsung SmartThings hub v3. It supports Z-Wave Plus and Zigbee but for some reasons it doesn’t include Xiaomi in the compatible products list. That’s why I asked.

  • Do these connect to Alexa out of the box?

    • +1

No they require a ZigBee hub.

      • RIP, no effort for that.

  • I have these connected to home assistant through a conbee2 hub. Works well and I get leak alerts instantly through slack/telegram. They have a temperature sensor too but mine needed offsets to calibrate, one was 5 deg out.

    • What sort of proximity to the water do they trigger on, or does it have to be direct contact to liquid water? (v.s. just using humidity)

      • +1

they have two metal contacts underneath and when the water makes a connection between the two then it send a signal

I got a warning of my washing machine leak saved me alot
