I have a few of these but having to change the button battery every few months gets old and is wasteful. I'd recommend to find alternatives that use AAA so rechargeables can be used.

I have a similar one and the button battery lasted more than 2 years 😅

    • I have over 10 of these and the one C cell battery lasts at least 12 months.

You need to flash with custom firmware which helps to extend battery life. https://github.com/atc1441/ATC_MiThermometer

      • If these are current versions then over the update is not an option. I haven't managed to get the firmware to work on mine even via serial update. Others have, so it is likely going to be a challenge.

    • I soldered a 2xAAA battery holder on mine.

    • I also bought some Govee recently from this deal because, like @fufufu, I also had a few of these and kept burning through CR2032 cells. The accuracy on the Govees seem to be much better too, as the Mijias would sometimes have 10% humidity variance between two units, where the Govees are identical (or within 1% of temp and humidity of each other).

    • they lost me at button battery, if it can't use eneloops I'm out

  • are these the ones that can be flashed to zigbee?

    • +2

In theory yes. All three of mine that I flashed to ZigBee completely died after a few days and are now ewaste.

Don't bother trying to flash them and just buy the ZigBee AAA powered ones

The ZigBee firmware is a bit of hit and miss. Some reported issues whilst it worked well for others.

Safer to just stick with using it as Bluetooth. Just get a few esp32 and turn them into bluetooth proxies to use with HA.

I've been using this setup for a few years now and is rock solid.

      • If these are current versions then over the update is not an option. I haven't managed to get the firmware to work on mine even via serial update. Others have, so it isn't as easy as the earlier firmware versions.

Idk if this is allowed but for anyone with a 3d printer i designed a removable enclosure for these if you want to mount them

  • Are these actually any good. I was after some for the baby's room and purchased 2 different thermapro ones from amazon, to find they were very inaccurate. For example, i would place it in the fridge, and it would say it was 24.5 degrees.. when it was 2 degrees.

    • +1

That is one good idea to test out the accuracy.

    • these are accurate enough. I use one for the baby room too but as above comments, have to change batteries regularly and also is bluetooth based, so not good for remote access to the thermometer.

    • These are pretty accurate for something that costs a few dollars and comparing it with a digital body thermometer it's +- 1degree out.

The advantage of these is that they broadcast the temp data every 10-30 seconds and is very handy to use in automation with HA. Such as auto turning on bathroom fan when X humidity is reached.

      • They look super tiny and cute, but i think the battery requirements is a bit of a 'drainer', pun intended.

I have 6 of these around the house, flashed with custom firmware - https://github.com/pvvx/ATC_MiThermometer
and connected to HA using BLE. battery life has been good been almost a year haven't replaced any batteries.
readings seem accurate as well compared with Xiaomi sensor - https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/WSDCGQ01LM.html the temp diffrrece are +-0.2 - 0.4C
got them as a bundle 10X for 58$ with free shipping
