I was about to buy a second set of R1700BT speakers and saw these were on special for another few hours (lightning deal). They look to be a similar model as the R1700BT, but you can add a sub. Not the cheapest they've been, but a decent price and free shipping.

The R1850DB is a dynamic 2.0 active bookshelf speaker housed within a MDF frame. The woofers on this model produce a quality sound and swift execution. The bass of this model vibrates any room or space it occupies. The additional subwoofer output allows you to add a subwoofer to transform this model from a 2.0 system to a 2.1 system. The R1850DB is exemplary and fun with the most recent Bluetooth innovation permitting recess from smartphones, tablets or PCs.

I have these hooked up to my TV with a sub and they do a nice job!

  • How does it compare to the R1380DB

The newer R1855DB's are regularly less than $150. Better off waiting for a deal on those.

I bought these about 10 days ago. I upgraded from a 2.1 soundbar to these, because I moved apartments.

I'm not sure if its all edifier speakers, but these speakers too 2-3 days to 'wear in', and now after a week they sound terrific. When i first plugged them in, they did not sound any better than built-in TV speakers, and terrible audio (like low quality youtube) sounded really bad. I've used them for a range of different music, and now listening to high-def audio shows the distinct sound and capabilities these speakers have compared to my previous 2.1 soundbar.

I dont have a subwoofer, but plan on getting one in the future. These bookshelf speakers are very good for a small room, and they are about 2.5m away from me. I think they would be a bit better sitting at ear level. I listen to them via optical from a PC.

I can answer any questions about these.
