Exciting to see Lenovo bring this tablet to Australia. Would be good to see the P11 Pro/Plus come too.

  • +1

    it looks really neat

  • Why does it have that ugly cylinder at the bottom/?

    • It's the stand, unfortunately built-in.

      • +1

The stand is why I bought one about three years ago (older model). Awesome to sit up, on a plane trip (remember those), or you have flip the stand 180 degrees and hang it off something. When folded up and using handheld the battery cylinder makes it easy to grip the tablet from the edge. It is really well designed.

    • Trademark yoga style stand. Would be cool if it had speakers on the side or more batteries inside.

      • It doesn't have battery inside?!
I'd assumed they put 18650s or such inside, to lower the centre of gravity, and make the rest thinner. (Designers are obsessed with "thinness" rather than weight for some reason)

        • +1

          Previous models have 18650 inside

Literally one of the selling points- it's marketed as an entertainment device hence the Dolby Speaker cylinder looking thing for movies, music etc.

  • Do you have to be a Student to use the website?

  • Yes you need a .edu email address to sign up.
    Easy to get one though

    • +1

As in borrow friends if your not a student?

  • Out of curiosity, is this tab a huge downgrade from the Lenovo Yoga Pad Pro? Or will it be pretty much providing a similar real-life experience, especially for media consumption (video, games)?

  • +1

    Mediatek - hard pass

  • how does it compare to those two recently popular tablets (lenovo and xiaomi)?

  • I have two of the old series at home. Bought one for myself and one for my SO instead of a kindle.
I bought the keyboard cover with mine and used it for work when I travelled. Incredible battery life and quality build on both but, and here is the big but, they stopped any updates and support as soon as I had bought them. They were useless except as expensive media players within 12 months.

    • How does it become useless without Android updates?

      • +1

Without updates, as a networked computer on your network, in time they become vulnerable to a variety of exploits.
Kind of like running an old computer with windows 95 on it to "surf the web". Malware magnet.

        • Also some apps I needed would not install. They may offer support. Battery life was the best ever by a long shot.

          • @OhPee: Yeah I had one also.
I think they were Intel atom based, prob why not so many apps compatible as it's not an ARM CPU.
Battery, front facing speakers and stand we good innovations at the time.

  • Android - probably should mention that in the title.

With ChromeOS / Linux / macOS etc, and a bluetooth keyboard, it would have made a great computer for high school.
Or are people managing to get through studies with just Android?

  • +1

Same price everywhere, Jb hifi, officeworks etc
    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/lenovo-yog…

  • The title has "QHD" but the device resolution is only 2000x1200, not 2560x1440.

  • On the list to get Android 12, so will be ok for a few years hopefully software wise.

Is this ok for a kids laptop to use kids games like 'Teach monster to read' and Minecraft? Reviews are pretty bad from what I've read for anything apart from as a media player.

This one comes with the pen, so also hopefully good for the kids to do a painting on.
