  • If I also use the Apple gift cards with flybuys, how many can I use in the checkout and how much money can you spend until flybuys is maxed out at 45000 points

    • +10

you need to buy a macbok so as you can use calculator to figure this out.

    • 45000/20 = $2250.

But only 8 cards per checkout at apple. That means if you are buying only one product, then $1600 worth of gift cards + 32000 flybuys points. It should give you $160 to spend with flybuys.

Or you can buy 7 gift cards ($1400) at coles and 1 gift card for the rest in Macquarie bank (5% discount), you can save up a little more.

    • This sounds like a high school algebra question.

  • Can I use coles gift card to buy apple gift card?

      • I have a $100 gift card given to me a few months ago by a friend. I bought 3 Apple gift cards and told the lady I wanna pay $100 with my gift card and rest with debit card, and she said you can't pay for any gift card with any other gift card.

        • That doesn’t surprise me, as that staff member is simply enforcing the gift card’s Terms of Use. It also says on the fine print of your Coles gift card that you cannot use it to purchase any gift cards.

  • Is AppleCare+ worth it for the MacBook Air? I'm going to keep it for 5+ years

    • If you're prone to accidents (liquid spills, drops etc) than yes, other than that no, ACL will cover you for 2+ years.

    • dude you never need it until bad happens and that smh moments gonna be irritating as hell lol

      • +5

Something about the Sydney Morning Herald?

    • Yes. I had a 2018 MBP, keyboard issue ensured and Apple agreed this week to replace it with a 2021 MBP due to the on going keyboard issue,

      • +1

Yup I believe the extended keyboard warranty for the older MBP was an extra 4 years.

        https://support.apple.com/en-au/keyboard-service-program-for…

        • +4

Yea… but this isn't just a replacement with one 2018 MBP to another 2018 MBP. They are sending me a 2021 MBP M1 Pro 16".

      • Hi! I have a 15' 2018 MBP with the ongoing keyboard situation which is still pretty annoying :/. Is it possible to swap it out for the 2021 MBP even though I don't have Applecare+ or is that required? My 2018 MBP has become obsolete now due to these M1's

        • So mine was replaced under their CRU program. Basically they assess what your device has been through and whether it warrants a full replacement. For me it has been 4 repairs failing to fix the issue so because it has been a poor experience that is why it is being replaced.

If you haven't had them attempt to fix it at all then they won't do a CRU.

          • @daven1985: They've replaced my keyboard issue around 3-4 times already due to dust getting in and making the keyboard unusable. But atm I dont have an issue so not sure on what to do

          • @daven1985: Btw did they swap you out for a 14' or 16' Model M1 pro?

          • @daven1985: You are eligible for refund after 3 repairs. As the product is not suitable for the purpose.

As someone who always gets AppleCare

I find it a waste of money on laptops

You have to be an unlucky person if it breaks down on its own

Hard to fumble a large laptop especially with magsafe

      In short. Don’t get it

      • I disagree. While you may not drop a large laptop, you can have faults that happen when its just sitting there. A split drink or like me once accidentally leaving a pen next to the keyboard when I closed the lid smashing the screen.

      • It wasn't worth getting prior to AppleCare+. I still wouldn't recommend most people to get it as Apple cover Mac for 3 years under ACL anyway but if you are prone to damaging your devices and don't want to mess around with insurance it might be worth it.

      • I get it cause sometimes I step on them on accident.

  • Bought Mac mini 3 days ago from Qantas just to use my Amex credit. Am I eligible for return?

    • Just read up on the Refund Policy for Qantas Rewards. Change of mind is allowed on some products, but Apple products are excluded.

  • Has anybody got luck buying a Mac through online or physical store without a student ID? Just because I am studying online and don't have it!

    • You'll hardly ever be asked for any form of Student ID. At least in my experience - however if you do want peace of mind then order online.

      • Thanks nxllson and rvsure. Got it sorted today.

    • I bought from AOC store and picked up from store. No student id proof asked.

      • Hi @rvsure, can I ask how you added the free airpods to your order for the promotion? I can't seem to do it and wanting to pick up today aswell

        • +1

Sorry, I was talking about my previous purchase, not through this promotion.

  • +1

So same deal as last year.. already have a 2nd Gen AirPod..

  • No iPad 11 inch …., big let down

  • is the edu price and free airpods avalaible in apple physical store as well?

    • The terms of the offer state it is available in Apple Store locations, which is another way of saying physical Apple Stores.

You’ll need to keep in mind that you’ll likely need evidence of your eligibility of accessing education pricing if you’re initiating a purchase at an Apple Store location.

  • Got one thx OP!!!!

    • How did the promo get applied. I've added an Air and the regular pods to my cart and no discount is appearing.

      • Its a different portal. Click on the link above and follow the link back to the main edu page

        • Yep, just saw the convo from the top comment.

  • The normal ipad $499 is that included in this promo? Looking for a couple of ipads for kids

    • No it's not, unfortunately.

      • Wouldnt the ipad air is $899 and ipad is $499? It says ipad air does not qualify

        • Ipad is A13 chip and ipad Air is A14 chip. Which is the 9th gen

        • The iPad air and the iPad pros are the only iPads included in this promotion.

        • +1

It's a limitation of the table format (markdown) which you are not able to include a newline character in the cell.

          • iPad Pro and iPad Air
          • (iPad (9th generation) and iPad mini are excluded from this offer)

Basically, iPad (9th gen) and iPad Mini do not qualify. Basically, you need to purchase an item that costs more than $800.

    • No. iPad air and iPad Pro only

    • It says in the description that “iPad (9th generation)” is excluded from this offer, and that is the “normal” $499 iPad.

    • of course not include $499 ipad

  • iPad Pro and iPad Air (iPad (9th generation) and iPad mini are excluded from this offer)

Only the iPad Pro and iPad Air.

    • Unless you need it now, I would wait for a refreshed iPad Air, nothing confirmed but it’s rumoured before Mid year.

  • I wonder if they’d give me some AirPods given I bought a MacBook Air through the Ed store less than 2 weeks ago. Technically I could return and repurchase, but that kind of seems like overkill. I might try calling.

    Thoughts anyone?

    • No chance

Just return and re order if you want to save $219

I would it’s the ozbargain way

      • +8

I called them and they said I was eligible for the AirPods. So for anyone else in my boat, give them a call and get some free AirPods!

        • +1

          awesome

        • +2

Good on you for sharing the info after your success. So often people go silent after finding this stuff out

  • So would a primary school teacher qualify for this? It just says "A teacher or lecturer working at an Apple-approved and -registered education establishment within Australia."?

    • They hardly ask for evidence on eligibility. Order online for a safe bet :)

    • +1

      Yes, teachers qualify

  • Does anyone know if we can swap airpods? Haven’t used airpods before and not sure which one would fit better (2nd vs 3rd gen)

  • -2

Whats the cheapest ipad and macbook/air qualify for this promo

  • Can post grad certificate students get edu discount?

    • +1

They won't ask Student ID if you order online; but you're their primary target audience for these discounts.

  • Is the latest iPad Air eligible ? The wording is a bit confusing

  • Yes, iPad air and iPad pro are eligible.

  • How does it show up on invoice for tax claiming?

    • If it’s the same as the last promotions it would show AirPods at full price and discount off the device.

      • Nooo I was going to do this and salary sacrifice the MacBook but if it takes the discount off the MacBook on the invoice then that sucks 😭

  • Owned iPad and iPhone, but never got MacBook, just wondering can MacBook run the same apps in iPad and iPhone?
    Thanks

    • -2

Different operating system entirely, some iOS apps will also have OSX (Macbook) versions, but there's little relationship. However, where those OSX apps do exist, they usually integrate very nicely with the iOS apps. Particularly true of the native Apple apps like Notes etc

    • With M1 MacBooks some iOS apps can be installed and used and some can’t. It depends what the developer of the iOS app enabled.

  • This is a great deal!!

  • Love how the IPad 9th Gen is not in the offer - but this is the one schools are asking us to buy.
Picked mine up from JB anyway with discounted GC's.
You win some, you lose some

  • Now we need cashreward to bring back last year's 8% deal.

    • And get rid of the current exclusions.

      • And apply to Apple AOC too.

        • And 30x bonus points from WW or Coles.

  • for all those who purchased online with long delays in shipping, does the invoice show the date you purchased or the day that they processed your payment? trying to time my purchase with TRS refund

    • 25/01 delivery date for Mac Air and 21/01 delivery date for Airpods, ordered this morning.

      • What configs? I am picking up mine today - 16GB/1TB Macbook Air.

  • What are the prerequisites to use AOC store compare to the regular education store?

    • +1

Officially speaking, the AOC store is an Apple Employee Purchase Program (EPP) portal that is exclusively for Australian Education Union members.

No-so-officially speaking, Apple rarely audits orders to check for your eligibility to access the AOC store, but they reserve the right to ask for evidence of your eligibility (i.e. your AEU membership). From what I’ve heard, if you are unable to demonstrate your eligibility, they may cancel your order or ask you to pay full-price if you still want your device.

  • Is it wise to get iPad Air with this promo, as it is close to its end of product cycle.

    • Would wait around Mid-year for the refreshed device - hoping that it's released in March. But I would think Apple would release the new device after this promotion ends so no free AirPods :(

  • I want to buy a new laptop at some point in the next couple months, and stack this offer with a FlyBuys or Everyday Rewards gift card deal. Everyday Rewards is my preferred provider. Should I wait until a similar offer to the Flybuys one comes up from Everyday Rewards? Or should I just take advantage of the Flybuys one that's currently running? Thanks everyone :)

Also, if anyone has any thoughts to help me decide on the 13 inch vs 14 inch MacBook pro (512gb), would be much appreciated :)

    • MacBook Pro 14 inch is for power user like video editor and 3D rendering which requires strong CPU & GPU performance. If you are not in this group, then MacBook air should be enough. Upgrade the RAM and Storage if you want to keep it longer.

Also I personally not a fan of the notch on top of the screen.

      • I do occasional video production (screen recording) and use Adobe graphics programs. So it would still be best to get an Air and upgrade the RAM and storage?

        • M1 chip is still decent for casual video editing. M1X is for 4k or even 8k video editing so not many people can use the full performance of it.

        • I was facing a similar situation last week and unable to decide on which model to get. While Googling, I came across this video that I thought gave me a pretty good confidence to decide on which model to get.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weQRgzkcECk&t=383s

If you didn't have time to watch it, basically the suggestion was to not spend too much money on upgrading the RAM. There's hardly noticeable difference between the 16Gb RAM vs 32Gb RAM.

That's because, with the new M1/unified RAM combo, you're getting a much better RAM performance on the same amount of RAM compared to previous Intel chip/ram combo. More bang for your buck, if you like.

In a nutshell, M1/16 GB of Unified RAM will smoke any other chip with 16Gb RAM.

The guy in the video reckon's you're getting more value for money by upgrading your hard drive to the 1TB option.

This video is a really good summary of current Macbook M1 options:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA9pzk8Ezuk
There is also his view on 13":
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQmd8NxXAGk

Linus Tech Tips also posted this, showing that in some ways a jump up to 16" is a good choice due to the way heat is handled by 14":
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw_0tBl11bY

My personal comment is that 8GB of RAM is ok but 16GB is much better. This is relevant to having a lot of browser tabs open, running 4+ applications at the same time, etc. Having more RAM will reduce the wear on the SSD, which is helpful for longevity. At times 8GB will struggle with some tasks. So, for casual use 8GB RAM is ok but for heavier home use or for work I think 16GB is a much better choice.

    • +6

I’ll weigh in on the first part of your comment, but please keep in mind this is all based on past performance, and past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

If you look at the history of Apple gift card deals at Coles, Woolworths and BIG W (the dates in the table are start dates of one week promotions):

      Coles Woolworths BIG W
      Aug 2021 18 Aug 26 Aug
      Sep 2021 15 Sep
      Oct 2021 13 Oct
      Nov 2021 17 Nov 03 Nov 25 Nov
      Dec 2021 08 Dec 09 Dec
      Jan 2021 05 Jan
      • You’ll notice has been at least one Apple gift card each month between Coles and Woolworths. However, November saw one deal at Coles and one deal at Woolworths, and I have a feeling that was due to Black Friday coming up later in November.

      • There hasn’t been an Apple gift card deal at Coles in two consecutive months, so my guess is that the February Apple gift card deal will be at Woolworths. However, there is a chance there would be an Apple gift card deal later this month. Who knows!

      • As you can see, BIG W also had bonus points deals, and there isn’t really a pattern to their frequency. My assumption is that they did not have any deals in Sep and Oct, due to lockdowns in large parts of NSW and VIC (as well as all of ACT) forcing their stores to close or to restrict the goods that could be sold.

Here’s my two cents (and please keep in mind this is a guess):

There will likely be an Everyday Rewards bonus points deal at Woolworths either in late January or early-mid February. There may be an Apple gift card deal at BIG W during that time period too.
