Can my GTX 460 run this resolution?

    • +10

Yes, but it only if you orient the monitor vertically

  • FWIW I'm pretty sure this is the exact same model and it has free delivery when you get to checkout:

    https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/monitors/25plus-inch/835…

Save ~80 bucks? or only 40ish if you put insurance on it (which you may want to hah)

  • Good deal but Mwave has it for the same price with free shipping- https://www.mwave.com.au/product/samsung-odyssey-g9-49-dqhd-… However, the downside is you have to pay via bank transfer to avoid a payment surcharge.

Looking for something that throws horrendous scanlines across the whole screen whenever it encounters even a tiny square of specific patterns it doesn't like - does anyone know if this monitor would be suitable?

A 49 inch VA panel. Not only will you wrestle the size into your car but you'll soon need glasses or a higher prescription with those washed out colours.

    • See the reviews. This is at a different level altogether.

Price wise this is a deal, but I don't think this is actually a good deal given its the previous gen model, think you'd be better off holding out for discounts on the Neo or finding someone with access to the Samsung edu/epp portal where the neo can usually be had a little bit more.

    • +1

Definitely, if you're pushing into this budget you can get the Neo for $2375 on eBay (plus).

      • +1

Nice one, that's a good find, well at least for 2 more people

edit: you mean the factory seconds one?

    • Neo actually has lots of bugs and faults at the moment though right?

      • The odyssey and the neo have both had problematic launches. Latest firmware at least appears to have resolved a good chunk of the issues with the neos hdr.

      • The G9 would be 'less problematic' than the Neo G9 at the moment. Both has scanline problems which I believe is probably a side effect to the method Samsung uses to gain 240Hz on a VA panel. This is just my speculation of course.

I can't speak for the Neo but the G9 has a number of issues that is PITA for me at the moment. This is with the latest firmware.

        1. Samsung doesn't understand what does auto channel detect means. It only detects the active channel when you physically plug in a video source. How stupid is that? If you run 2 computers to it, you will need to manual select the channel every time you switch between the 2 computers.

        2. If you do run 2 computers to it, you better hope both computers run the same refresh rate. If your gaming PC runs 240Hz but your laptop can only sustain 60Hz, it sometimes confuses itself and cause micro stutters when you game on your gaming PC. To fix this you will need to turn the monitor off and on again.
[Solution] If you laptop has USB-C video out and it supports DP Alt Mode HBR3 or Thunderbolt 3.0/4.0, you can run a USB-C to DP cable (HBR3) and turn on 240Hz. This solution may also solve it for MacBook/M1 as well.

        3. If you're running custom calibration and need to manually tweak RGB values, the monitor does not remember it the next time you turn on. Again how stupid is that?

        • Wow that's really not acceptable for such an expensive monitor.

          • @Xastros: Yeah I am hoping this is all just a firmware issue and can be fixed soon. With Issue 1, I heard all the Odyssey product line ups have this issue. Not sure what Samsung is thinking because I am pretty sure their older monitors were not implemented this way.

Other than that, the panel is very good. It is still not perfect though. In some colours, e.g. a certain shade of grey or blue (particularly MS Team's background) will reveal the dirty screen effect. Initially it looked like image retention but fortunately it wasn't.

            • @Davesday: Thanks for the info. Hope they fix it soon for you.

finding someone with access to the Samsung edu/epp portal where the neo can usually be had a little bit more.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, buy from the Samsung store (or any online store really).

These monitors as good as they are when they're working, are also super faulty - you'll be lucky if you don't need to return it.

If you need to return it to Samsung, prepare to lose 5 years off your life dealing with their insipid service team. I bought a Neo a couple months ago, cracked out of the box, tried to get it replaced, no beuno, tried to get a refund - still waiting for the refund to process. Many hours of calls to deal with this BS.

Pay more and get it from a brick and mortar - bought a neo from Harvey Norman - got a replacement in the same day after some (a lot) of dead pixels appeared).

Third monitor going strong. Best monitor - when it works. But yeah… if you're not prepared to deal with a bit of hassle, just don't.

OK not a crazy deal. Thanks for the comments all. This was my first post and my hymen has been well and truly brutalised.

    • OzB is not for the faint of heart but don't feel discouraged.

    • +2

At ozbargain they confront you early and prepare you fast. Soon you'll start to worry when the negative comments and ratings stop. That my friend is when you start to question if you ever even had a hymen to begin with!

wrestle this beast of a box into your car

Says someone who never wrestled a 21" Trinitron back in the day :-)

    • Oh man, that takes me back! Loved my 21” Trinitron (still have it) but it was such a PITA to transport home!!

    • +1

I remember them sitting on sun pizzabox workstations

  • Side on it looks like CRT monitors are making a comeback!

  • Ran this past my gym manager, out came his fist and I am still recovering….
