Anyone has any feedback on refurbished TV from Sony? Are they returns from customers who has been checked by Sony? Do they come with full warranty?

I haven't bought a TV from them, but have gotten a refurbished sound bar. I didnt have any problem with it. You still get the same 12 months Sony Manufacturer's warranty as you would a brand new item, and the eBay item description says that all items would be fully functioning - might have cosmetic variations if any.

I brought a 65" "seconds" from Sony EBay, was very much a bargain. The box was damaged but everything else was as new. I haven't brought recently but I think it can be a gamble as they don't often distinguish between seconds and refurbished. Worth noting however, at the 12 month mark I had a panel fault which was repaired under warranty, then I had another panel issue another 15 months later (approx), the model wasn't available anymore so Sony replaced it free of charge despite being almost 2.5 years old (without me having to fight for it). I found their service pretty good and easier to deal with rather than via store - of course YMMV. Hope this is helpful :)

    • I got refurb 65x90h a couple of months back and the first one came with a drawn circle inside the screen and the leg stand have visible sign of usage. Most likely it was used unit that had broken panel and replaced.

Organised a replacement and the new one looks new and just opened box, it could be a hit and miss but I have heard others getting a brand new unit as refurb as well. You have full 12 months full warranty from Sony directly.

    • Mines been fine since 2019. Never noticed anything wrong with it.

My experience was being treated like a third rate citizen.

I bought a refurb x9500G earlier this year.
Delivery took 14 days from purchase and required me to chase at every, single, stage to get it that good.
It also required my wife to be home for delivery for 3 full days as eBay tracking showed it out for delivery before it had even departed Sydney, then after chasing up when it wasn't delivered I was promised a delivery date where they failed to show before chasing again and the actual delivery on a Friday.

Out of the box it looked brand new, my only issue was that someone had tightened the screws into the VESA mount so hard that I was worried my screwdriver would cam out and punch straight through the plastic back.

The TV died on the first night after 60 minutes of account setup and screen quality tweaking.
I called Sony Support Saturday morning to be told they could only arrange a technician visit.
I rejected that and queried Sony eBay… they took 4 days to respond and also only offered me a technician visit.
I immediately rejected that and waited a further 4 days for a response.
They then asked me to do a factory reset procedure which I'd already attempted from the original Sony Support Call and which I'd told them in my original message.
4 days later they said they'd "have to investigate" whether I could be refunded,
At this point I escalated to eBay cause it felt like I was being strung along.

Possibly cause I have eBay Plus (into my second free year thanks to the $50 gift voucher deals), eBay took very little time to find in my favour and force the refund through.
Pickup of the TV required further legwork on my part to organise with their agent, Toll and of course to be available in a 4 hour window.

Overall, from end to end the process took about 4 weeks.

      • Thank you for sharing your experience … I guess it is like people say here, it's a gamble :-( Not sure whether I would like to pull the trigger.

    • I’ve bought 6 tvs through Sony seconds over the past 5 years. No issues what so ever, I’ll always buy through Sony seconds.

Yeah, I recognise that my experience is pretty close to the bottom of the pit, but at least be prepared to battle the Customer don'tCare

    • I bought a TV from them 5 years ago. It still going strong

  • I bought a 65 inch TV 2 years ago and it came with a cracked screen. Also looking at it it was apparent that it was a return from a customer. Took some time and effort to organise the return. Took another punt a few weeks later, and received an (almost) brand new set with protective films still on. Guess it is a gamble.

  • Why not just make it 10% off. Minimum spend and maximum discount $100. Convoluted eBay.

I suspect its because you'll either spend more trying to make it to the next tier, or you will end up getting less than 10%.
