Available in store at many Big W's.
Also available at Big W eBay with free postage if your have ebay Plus.

Comes with:
* Energy monitoring (fairly accurate from the one unit I've tried)
* All the timer options
* Works with Tuya apps. Easy to setup.
* Should work in Home Assistant with the Tuya integrations (not tested this yet!), and may be flashable
* Thin design, doesn't take up much space on the power point
* Power button on the bottom with status LED, which is programmable in the app.

I needed a smart wifi plug to trickle charge my car and this one does a good enough job. I first tried the new Arlec ones from Bunnings, but the monitoring on them was hit and miss. They showed different voltages, one as low as 225V. This Eko one was even cheaper, but is almost identical - works with the same apps. Same size, the main external difference is the power button on the Eko is on the bottom and not the top.

Edit: Looks like they're out of stock on eBay now. Keep checking back.

  • Similar to the Genio ones?

    • The design looks closer to the Bunnings one (power button on top), but the app UI looks near identical to EKO. Probably all out of the same factory, but I can't comment as I've not tried the Genio.

  • Thanks! Going to replace my shitty Xiaomi one’s with these!

Just curious, what didn't you like about the Xiaomi Power Adapters ?

Only asking as I am a fan - Have at least 12 installed.

I mainly have the later Bluetooth model.

      • +1

Main issues with my xiaomi ones are:

        • They often lose connectivity in the app for no real reason and takes a few tries to reconnect. More often than not I just give up and power on manually.
        • Having to change regions to "Mainland China" in the app to be recognized.

Once setup, they do work fine though and I have schedules and timers setup. However I find I’ve resorted to manually pressing the button more often than not due to the first reason above.

Once I receive these from BigW, I’ll have my 5x Xiaomi ones for sale for cheap if you’re really a fan of them.

        • maybe try using conbee with them instead

        • +1

Sure - Message me when you're ready to sell…
          G

    • Xiaomi are zigbee tho and act as a zigbee repeater

      • I thought they only acted as a repeater if you used a hub other than the Xiaomi one?

        • from what i have read most zigbee powered devices will repeat the zigbee channels around the house.

          • @asa79: Yeah, they generally do, but pretty sure I read the Xiaomi hub for Zigbee devices didn't use/allow that. Which is why I stopped using it with Home Assistant and got a $10 zigbee hub off Aliexpress. Things could have changed in newer versions as mine is quite old now.

            • @whatisk: I not sure I have also changed over to conbee stick now

  • So not fair - bought the Blaupunkt ones in November - needed another 6 (12 in total) - $20.00 each at Coles

    Needed Power monitoring

Tempted to buy these - return the 6 new Blaupunkt ones (similar price) and have 18

    • probably cheaper to buy the 4 pack arlec ones

  • OOS on Ebay now

No Template for Tasmota yet https://templates.blakadder.com/plug.html

    • That's interesting. What can you do with it?

      • No need for cloud

    • They're the same as the genio plugs. Same method to open and flash

  • 2400W max (10A @ 240V) - sigh.

Anyone know an energy monitoring plug (tuya ideally) that can handle a 2.4kW startup spike without the surge protector triggering (as my Xiaomi plug does - 80% of the time it goes into fail mode)

    • is that for a AC?

      • asko tumble dryer. When running it is less than 2kW, But there is a spike when it starts up, which causes the xiaomi plug to trip.

I've just found a 2.5kW tuya plug. Will give that a go

        • I used to use the Aldi medion (flashed with tasmota) plugs with my old dryer with no issues, i use it to monitor the power usage

          • @asa79: I've got xiaomi plugs on the washing machine, dishwasher and power tools battery charger - works fine there. Just trips most of the time with the tumble dryer thus WAF is exceptionally low..

            • @walaj: I only have the one Xiaomi that i had on the dishwasher, it was nice, but the aldi ones were so cheap and easy to tasmota, to not just get heaps of them

        • Genuine question - what do you need a smart switch on a clothes dryer for?
Don't you have to go to the clothes dryer and put the clothes in anyway?

          • @seanbaussie: I have a (home assistant) automation configured so that once an hour, after the dryer/washing machine/dishwasher has finished (and it is after 8am and before 7pm, and someone is home) uses the google home speakers to ask for someone to empty the device…

"the washing machine has finished; please empty it"

uses power measurements to work ouf if it is powered but finished.

            • +1

              @walaj: Just wow…

              • @seanbaussie: lol.
"its sunset - the stacker doors are still open"
"its sunset, don't forget to close the garage door"
"Its cold outside, and the stacker door has been open for at least 10 minutes"
"its dark, there is no one in the office, but the window is still open"

  • Are my assumptions correct?
    1. Displays the power consumption of the connected electronics/appliance.
    2. Can power on/off using the mobile app.

    • +1

      Yes correct

  • -1

thank god i got these before the post.

  • Does this need an account to use?

    • Yes, download the mobile app and register a new account.

      • You sure you don't already have a Tuya device?

      • Not sure why an account is needed when it's in your own home.

  • Can you have:

    IF
    Power Consumption < X
    THEN
    Turn off
    ELSE
    Keep on

    ?

    • you could via node-red or home assistant if you can communicate with it via the tuya

  • +2

    CB2S chip, so no Tasmota.

    Ebay OOS.
BIG W Port Augusta 2066.4 Km In stock

    • How did you find out the chip?

      • I just popped the case open.

        • That's pretty definitive! Thanks!

  • Which one is better: Cygnett or EKO?

  • Do any of these monitor plugs monitor in real time usage & record it min by min ?…. i would love to get a hold of one that does

there used to be a Jaycar one that monitored in real time and would record that information by the app.. so you could see peaks during the day

    https://www.jaycar.com.au/wi-fi-control-mains-socket-and-pow…

    • I use the Kogan ones but currently sold out. They do a reasonable job but can't be Flashed to work with Home Assistant.
      https://www.kogan.com/nz/buy/kogan-smarterhome-smart-plug-en…

They only report: Current use, Total for each Day, Monthly Totals (incl each day). They however do not show by the minute or hour totals nor can data be exported.
