I wonder if these get too hot, will they turn off?

  • Tapo alternative for those who hate the massive Meross form factor: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BNDW7N3S/

    • Yeah I went the tappo route its been pretty good so far.

    • Be aware of the click of death with the Tapo model.

  • My experience with these was terrible. I wont buy again.

Look I think it's fair to mention I bought a whole house of meross products 27 lights and 10 switches. About 25% of them have failed in under 2years. I don't know if that's an acceptable failure rate amongst competitors. The switches in particular have a capacitor that fails. It can't be replaced because board access is not possible because of the way it's situated in the shell.

The arlec grid connect devices are smaller

Grid Connect are horrendous. I have their garage door controller and a light, and their app interface is clunky and unreliable. It's been going for 4 years, but in that time have had to cold cycle the garage door power multiple times. I'm shopping for a replacement garage door controller and cant wait to get rid of it! Very frustrating to use (app and device).
Meross may have a high failure rate (I don't have anywhere near as many as you), but I have 4 power switches and they are all still going well- one is used as a pool pump controller every single day, no issue. Meross app is gold though. Very intuitive to use and program/customise each switch.

You're spot on about the apps. I have 4 grid connect switches and 3 panel heaters. For some reason they don't allow turning off of the light up switch whereas meross does.

The size of the meross devise and the failure rate though :(

        • Very valid on both concerns. I had to make allowances to fit them properly, but nothing a power board couldn't fix. Not that you should have to… I get that.

Time will tell with my 4 though, still going strong. Where were your failures? Anywhere hot/no air flow? Just curious.

But the Grid Connect app is baaaaaad. So bad it takes away the point of even having the smart switches, because you can't use them without constant resets! If there's some failures coming up, I reckon I can live with it because the devices themselves have worked flawlessly.

Ikea TRETAKT ones (Zigbee) are $12 and work really well, just need a Zigbee hub (Ikea, Philips Hue, etc).
