[VIC] Free Public Transport Travel Vouchers in December & January @ Public Transport Victoria

1761

To get you in the festive spirit, we’re giving away 250,000 free public transport travel vouchers.

To promote a safe return to public transport and reignite a passion for our city, you’ll be able to grab the gift of travel for a range of events and attractions throughout December and January.

This covers all public transport in Victoria that travels to the CBD, including:

Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses
Regional trains, coaches and buses

50,000 vouchers will be up for grabs for each of five different event categories such as Christmas events, galleries and attractions, dining, performing arts, and shopping. Vouchers will be available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

The vouchers will be available from 16 December, for travel from 18 December and will be emailed to you, so you can print, or display it on a valid device. The voucher will only be valid for your nominated day of travel.

While travelling on public transport this summer please remember, you must wear a fitted face mask covering your nose and mouth and to check in every time you see QR codes at stations and stops and while you travel on trains, trams, and buses.

Due to the high volume of website activity, we are currently experiencing difficulties with applications for free travel vouchers over the Christmas and New Year period.

Please try again later.

  • What do they mean by display the voucher on a 'valid device'? I'm assuming it just means on any electronic device such as a smart phone?

    • I would argue that my invisible super smart megaphone is also a valid device when the term is not clearly defined.

      • Looks like they've updated what a valid device is. Pretty much added what I said lol. Must be lazy writing.

The tickets for "City shopping" on dates in January are now available.

    "City shopping
Grab a bargain in the post-Christmas sales or stroll the laneways for unique shopping discoveries. You can’t beat Melbourne’s city centre for your retail therapy fix, with major department stores, international retail giants and exclusive boutiques."

I grabbed one ticket for two people. Not too greedy. That'll do me.

  • How about going back home from the city, is that covered? I mean it says travel to city but nothing about traveling back from the city?

    • The voucher in the email says "to and from Melbourne CBD", so I think it's covered.

      • Thanks for pointing that out

  • has anyone got an email yet from a successfull application?

    • Yes, multiple. Only took a few minutes.

      • Thanks, were in the Junk mail

what's the point of the categories if the offer is all the same (free ptv) ????

it looked like to me you get a restaurant or gallery voucher, not only a transport voucher???

you must have just missed out?
when I got my email, I also got restaurant vouchers, entry to all events, a pass to change Myer's Christmas display, and various other things.

      • I signed up for Dining Out and Gallery travel voucher, didn't receive any vouchers for restaurants or any pass to events. Signed up around Thursday morning 12:30am when the link was mentioned here.

        • Was there supposed to be vouchers? I thought it was just free travel

          • @wolvesaussie: I thought so too, but user above commented they got restaurant vouchers and entry to events lol

Lol it was a joke. Surely you wouldn't believe I'd get entry to all events, plus ability to change Myers Christmas display!

Only thing any of us got is free travel. Thought it was funny the guy thought otherwise. Next time I will have to put a few /s

      • no, i was in early, something not right here.

    • Probably data collection?

These emails look very easy to alter if you fancy changing your own date. Very unofficial looking

    • yeah it's a bit of a joke.
although it was also very easy to legitimately register multiple days.

      • I'm guessing they made an assessment on the cost of making the vouchers verifiable versus possible revenue losses, and concluded it wasn't worth the hassle.

  • More now available

they seem to have made it one voucher per category per person now

  • Did anyone use this yesterday? What was the process like?

    • +1

hi I used it today. was easy. Was let out of barriers in the city just by saying I have a free ticket they didnt ask to see it. On the vline home the conductor checking tickets glanced at it briefly on my phone and thats it.

    • Yeah, used it on VLine yesterday, had a quick read and all clear.

  • Used it today, no issues at all but it was challenging finding a person to open the gates for you at 6.30pm at Melb Central station.

    1. Forward voucher email to self
    2. Edit to valid date on email
    3. ???
    4. Profit
  • Anybody else not receiving the email? Checked junk and there's nothing

anyone tried this on the skybus from melb to airport and return?

    https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/route/1123/melbourne-airport-melb…

    • Skybus isn't a PTV service.

You could however travel to Broadmeadows by public bus route 901 then train in to the city or to your final destination.

You can also use routes 478, 479 and 482.
