Annoying too that the online sale also seemed to starting earlier than 8am. At 7:10am they had stock of XBox 1500 points, at 7:50am they were sold out.

I think it can be called now … WORST SALE EVER!

Edit - re the memberships and points it was only the OLD ones that were on special

  • +1

Strange, newcastles marketown store had nothing at all reduced . Stock that should have been reduced also was not. No one there either.

    • pricematch their online store?

  • -1

thank god I bought my 4 games on the harvey norman sale and didn't put my faith into DSE :)

  • +3

Went into Dicksmith Lidcombe with nothing, walked out with..

    nothing.

    • +3

I too find that shops tend to like you to at least take a method of payment into the store.

      • +12

        And wear pants

        • +8

Maybe he wore no pants to show off his "method of payment"

          Giggity

  • +2

no bargains from what ive seen (i.e. no stock - isnt there something in fair trading about having reasonable stock to be able to advertise stuff like this? DS shouldnt have confirmed it on twitter or facebook).

good on anyone who was able to get something decent

    • it wasn't advertised

      • +3

I'm pretty certain that expressly confirming the sale on your official Facebook page counts as advertising.

        • yep, confirmed on FB and twitter, social media doesnt mean its not advertising.

  • anyone been to macquarie centre DS?

    • +3

Hi i was at sydney macquarie since 8:30, about 50 ppl at the time with 100 at opening. There was a decent amount of stock compared to other sydney stores, but consoles ran dry within the first minute. Dsi were grabbed within the first 10 seconds, people were running. Then the rest was grabbed and snatched by people greedy enough to resort to such desperate measures. staff were slack enough to hand undiscounted products to customers. I thought i had a psp until i found out at the counter it was not the correct model. Most pathrtic sale ever.

      • thanks for the intel!!

  • bought 15000 MS points for $50

didn't have much else in stock

    • +2

lol, at least you got something. i think your the first person who HAS posted and actually got a sale item..

  • Yet another evil corporation dick move pulled this morning when they had 0 consoles! Moby is not happy :(

  • +1

Here, have a sympathy dollar. :-)

  • I was at southport store in QLD and they had a 1.5m x 1.5m box of games no ps3 games just xbox and wii, so nothing for me and that box was raped by 9.10am, nothing left

  • +1

Waste of time, No good stock was on sale. I tried to buy gamer points and subscriptions but was told none of them were on sale. Looked for some of the $5-$10 games and was dissapointed to see them, all for around $50-80. There were a couple of consoles on sale but at the Frankston store it was 1 console per person.

  • Absolute crap at warringah mall, brookvale.
No Nintendo DSi, one PS3 , and a handful of MW3 Xbox 360 consoles going out for 299. Three Logitech keyboards got snatched up quick.
Whole bunch of games for sale, but all old released.
I picked up the MW3 headsets both for 80bucks….then I left..because of the number of people.Crazyness

  • went into dick smith menai lots of peaple there nearly every one holding keyboards in their hand and nothing left on the shelf

  • Was really nothing at the store I went to, a couple of DSI's that the manager snapped up to sell to some people who had been waiting since 6am… screw that!

Also interesting that the staff hadn't been able to get their hands on anything prior, one was there trying to get the last DSI's but was too late.

  • Didn't Dick Smith himself say he'd do everything in his power to rubbish the name if WW tried to sell the company? I'm pretty sure this whole drama has pissed off quite a lot of people…

  • +5

Maybe it's just me but, I'm almost sensing that a large part of ozbargain consist of self untitled dongwads.
    shrugs

    • It's not just ozbargain that knows of the sale

    • I was a given a title a few days after birth, as were many of my fellow brethren. Do not hold us responsible for your lack of imagination.

      Chill out dongwad.

  • Just got back from Chirnside (VIC) store. There was about 30-40 < 18 year olds and about 20 > 18 years olds there. Everything was gone. Saw one guy with a DS (The bastard! :P) and another with a Steelseries Cataclsym Keyboard. Talked to the guy with the Cata Keyboard and he said he doesnt play wow but saw that it had steelseries so he picked it up /facepalm. All I got was ex display Tony Hawk Ride for PS3. Bring it home and its in very poor condition but for $5 I really couldnt care less! :) Nothing else of value left that I could see.
No expectations leaves no disappointment. I can tell that the silly people that had expectations are gonna be butt hurt for the next few weeks.

  • There were about 100 people lined up at my local Woden Canberra. No console stock at all. No Logitech stuff.

  • I got Resident Evil 5 Gold, LA Noire and Sega Mega Drive Collection on PS3 for $5 each. Red Dead Redemption isn't down to $5 (still $50) on PS3 for anyone wondering.

  • Off DSE FB:
"i fucking waited at the store 3am, checked there was stock the day before for ps3's there was 4 fifa bundles< 1st in line when the door opens ask them where are the ps3's clerks say there wasn't any ffs
    dick move"

    3am, ouch!

    • +1

      To save what? $200?

    • Moby feels your pain. Dick move indeed. The staff must have bought them.

  • Any word on the g27?

    • back up fill price $499

  • +1

    Dick smith sale… HUGE SUCCESS

    http://cdn2.holytaco.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/empty_gr…

sure this is how the stores started off after the staff got their share

  • +1

All the stock at my local store wasn't marked down but it scanned at special prices. WoW headset priced at 150 ish scanned for $5

  • +4

There's no such thing as women and children (ie us customers) first as the SS Dick Smith Titanic slips slowly beneath the waves.

The crew are grabbing all the choicest lifeboats and abandoning customers to their fates.

In any case who can blame the crew….. The corporate B's in charged have pole shafted them.

If I was staff I'd be playing every legal trick in the book to make a buck out of the wreckage.

The corporate B's will still get all their payouts and perks while the galley slaves will be turfed out on the street.

  • +14

So I managed to get a PS3 320GB with FIFA 2012 (it was chaos). The reason I mention this is because I know a number of people are hating on the staff but it was a staff member who actually gave up theirs so I could have it, simply because I asked about the console nicely… With regards to the rest of the confusion, the hardware sale seems to have begun today but most games will be on sale starting April 11th.

So a big thank you to the staff at Logan Mega Center QLD. Makes me want to give Dick a big hug (I realise how that sounds lol :P).

Remember everyone, staff are people too so be nice and good things might happen.

    • +6

Good to hear a positive story. Doesn't change my neg though.

    • was it crazy at logan ??

      • Yep, I thought it wouldn't be seeing as it is a bit more out of the way. Probs 50ish people lining up.

    • This just proves the staff had their pick of the good stuff first. Giving one over to a customer showed that at least one of the staff had a conscience (how much other stuff had they put asside for themselves?). Having the staff take it all before the sale starts is not really good PR. Look out for all the eBAY sales from DS staff.

    • The staff shouldn't be holding onto this stuff in the first place.

    • I'm guessing the staff member didn't really want it (already had a PS3?) Maybe they got it because they could and were indifferent. It was good of them to offer it for sale for a customer though.

  • I went into the Sydney store yesterday and they had the game I wanted (fallout 3 GOTY), but almost nothing else worth getting.
When I walked to the store this morning (I live in the CBD) there was a massive line.
I'd rather just pay 13 pounds or whatever they sell it for online than waste my time in that line.
I hope they were all ready for disappointment.

    • they had that at the fairfield store yesterday too, with some other ones i was after and they refused to sell it to me because it wasnt in the system. They took them to the back of the store. dick smiths indeed.

  • I was at the taigum store looking for anything not for a Console like the game controllers etc.

Everything decent was grabbed by the people who got to the two tables first, then those people stood in their circle and piled 10-15 games in their hand.

They should have had a per person limit.

The stock was horrible, seems only worth it for console gamers because they don't have Steam etc.

30+ people crowded outside before opening with many coming just after 9am missing out on everything. Also had likely the only security guard in the shopping centre watching us :)

  • Yep sold out, don't waste your time

  • +7

    dse can ead

  • +2

    Who's got a sh1tty sale?? Dick Does!!

I scouted the Point Cook DSE yesterday and even then the games rack were scarce. I thought of popping into the store at 9am today just to see if there are anything of worth to pick up and when I drove past the store, there were at least 30-40 people already lining up. I'm guessing probably only the first 4-5 people would probably get something that's worth the wait.

  • Utter crap.

  • Just came back from Dick Smith in Randwick. There were a bunch of people in there but the place wasn't packed. This was at 9:15am though so there were probably more people when they opened. I saw someone walk out with a Logitech steering wheel as I was walking in. The people lined up at the cashier had games and accessories with them, seemed like they had some interesting ones. I don't think they had any consoles left but I didn't ask staff.

    • +1

yeah, i was also at randwick at about 9am, saw ppl getting some xbox live card things and a game, so, basically nothing there

  • Was at Robina store.

Huge line out front, soon as they opened a bunch of guys sprinted straight for the games and got the fifa 12 ps3 :(
Saw a kid carrying, I believe, everything that was on show as far as Xbox 12 month subscriptions go. I believe they weren't the discounted ones so I laughed inside. No one correct me ;)

I managed to grab a copy of Dead Island and LA Noire for PS3 :) Almost grabbed GoW C2 but still haven't even finished the first lot :\

Missed out on the G19 too :( On the plus side, the savings from not buying the store can go towards a Galaxy Note! :D

    • Yeah, saw a bunch of people carrying the new stock Play & Charge kits and the new XBL cards. Couldn't help but laugh.

There was a shit load of pushing when the doors opened - someone dropped their drink (who would even bring one to a sale?) and it splashed all over my legs. A little kid was pushed over too, and he was at the start of the line.

  • +1

Fountain Gate Dick Smith (VIC) was crowded and within the first 2 minutes, everything went. There were about 4 Xbox 360s, maybe four DSis and about three marked 12 Month Live Gold Membership for XBL. I also think there was one PS3. My brother missed the last 360 by seconds to a Japanese guy who had about five other boxes in his hand. The bargainer in me says way to go, but the person in me says Dick move.

Most of the 360 and DS games weren't actually part of the sale, so yeah.

I managed to actually grab a couple of MS Points but was told it was not discounted, despite it being on the list. I just left the store with ODST for $5. Bit disappointed but hey what can you do.

    • +1

Only the 'old' stock cards are.

  • +4

There was some douche standing at the checkout with 20+ games in front of him, grinning like a pig in shit…

Enjoy your eBay sale, Mr. Douche!

  • At the St Ives store, only 2 people were waiting. at 8:50am they let one of their mates in and i saw him buy a Nintendo dsi. Other than that nothing spectacular, its a small store and nothing good was left.

  • +9

Just saw staff giving stock to their friends from under the counter

    • They better because they may very well be made redundant after this joke of a sale/clearance.

  • +2

I managed to get a 250gb Xbox 360 and two PSPs (one for a friend) plus few games.

    • Which store?

      • +1

Kingaroy, QLD. and the PSP from a mate in Grafton NSW. Looked as though a lot of the good stock was in rural areas, few good items in rockhampton, armidale, Ballina, warwick, Penrith (if that counts as rural). I guess the big stores may have higher turnover of their stock and wouldn't have the old stuff.

        • That's what I got told about the xbox…it's about 400km away from where I am.

  • +5

    DSE = COTD

  • +1

Didn't even get to spend my centrelink money :( Damn you dicksmith for not having stock on anything!

  • pathetic..

  • +1

At Hobart this morning, 2 guys were let in to the store before opening - presumably friends of the staff there… looked like they got the consoles and g19's… massive fail to dse, should have been limit of 1 of each item per person.

I one of the first to make it to the keyboards - me and another guy, and no G19's even though there were showing as instock @ 8am

  • +1

    I'm so glad I didn't bother.

  • +1

O' well, this all just reminds me of why I don't go to dicksmith

  • remind me of the hp touchpad fiasco.

too bad DSE staff everywhere have destroyed the company's rep

  • God how desperate are people for this cheap crap???

    • +4

      It's ozbargain…..

  • It was an absolute joke, I went to the parra north large store, they had nothing of value.

  • Real hit and miss at our local store, there was limited stuff there but nothing was marked down you had to scan it to see the discount, i ended up walking out with nothing, disapointted but not unexpected.

The guys and gals there were very helpful, they claimed they knew nothing about the sale til they got into work this morning. And they even admitted to me that they put a heap of stuff away for themselves before openning the doors, the guy said " we have to have some perks in this job" which fair enough i suppose.

But its still pretty crappy for the customer though.

    • yep. it's pretty widely known DSE guys bought the best stuff for themselves behind counters before store opening

  • +4

items sold out before doors open = bad deal

  • +2

Got myself a PSP at a rural store (Morwell, Victoria). Those bigger consoles pretty much disappeared from the shelf overnight. When they lead me to the back to collect the PSP, guess where all the consoles went?

    • Shoulda said you wanted the xbox and ps3s instead

  • +2

    Mornington - Victoria here.
Managed to get a Logitech G15 and G9x for $20 each.
Some neck beard ahead of me cleaned out the entire section, I managed to wrangle a G15 out of his sweaty hairy paws.
Other then that, no consoles at all and the Logitech products went really quick. Meh good for about $50 each on ebay

    • I wanted a g9x, if you are selling it on ebay or want a private sale let me know.

    • +2

I don't seem to recall it that way, seems like you grabbed things as fast as everyone else and I never wrestled with anybody; then again if you want to trade a steelseries for a G15, message me. Otherwise, troll people to their faces instead of acting like a child, because at least I'm actually using the stuff I obtained and donating the rest.

      • Wait so you're the neckbeard!?

        • So it would seem.

Last time I recalled I shave yesterday, wasn't on the DOLE, and didn't look like a creepy guy on his lonesome though, although there were 2 other guys that weren't with him that kind of… did (but I was first there so…) I also grabbed some random stuff to donate to a raffle as well so it looked like I had more than a dozen things (I didn't) when some of the oldies were carrying a dozen games at least.

  • just came back and it seams only old stuff is on sale. need for speed the run, the new lord of the ring game, and some other ones were all scanning at normal price.
i told them about the list online and they said that they dont take notice of that and onl what they have on their list.

they only had the new microsoft points but how can new packaging make them different from the older ones. it is just different packaging, it is the same product and should be the same price.

  • I was one of the first few at the Penrith Mulgoa Rd store. They had 'clearance tables' with black PS3 320GB and stacks of XBOX360 Kinetic bundles with large "SALE" signs but all at full price. Zero PS3 Fifa bundles even though the website shows in stock.

    Bait and switch.

    • +1

Hardly Bait and Switch. Dick Smith in their non-advertising advertising did state they couldn't advertise due to low levels of stock.

      • +3

What do you call clearance tables and massive red SALE signs stocked with full priced products preempted by a 'clearance sale leak' that they 'did not advertise'?

        • +1

          false advertising?

        • The same thing I see every day in a Dick Smith store? I.e. big "Sale" signs on top of consoles that have been discounted before? I was in Southland store on Sunday and they had big "sale" signs over all their game consoles, including on clearance tables at pretty much full price for their Kinect bundles with a $30 saving.

      • they did advertise, on twitter and facebook. just cause its social media as opposed to newspapers of traditional media doesnt mean its not advertising?

        • ……. This is why I called it "non-advertising advertising" ……..

  • There was no $100 xbox console at all in Sydney CBD. What a joke. They only sell them at full price.

    • The only one that was $100 were the Rugby packs… I haven't seen any since before Christmas sales when they were $199. Not surprised that there haven't been any around.

  • Canberra Centre Store doesnt have much left, a few 3DS games, and a few copies of Fifa 11 for $5.
Line up for the counter and any available consoles went the whole length of the shop. At 9:05 the storeperson was telling people the consoles would be sold out by the time they reached the front.

Unlike some previous comments the staff were rather helpful to most people, they kept coming by the locked cabinets every 2 minutes to see if anyone needed anything, and politely told people they couldn't get a console for them as it would be unfair to people lining up.

  • Hardly anyone at the Neutral Bay store… 7 or 8 guys… they had a bit of stock left, no consoles obviously but a few games and bunch of accessories… make sure you take the list with you though as nothing has been marked with the sales prices… the employee said it wasn't supposed to start until Thurs so that's why none of it is marked… but it did scan at the discounted price… I got a few Wii accessories for $1 each (charger docks, starter kits etc) and a couple of older $2 games… but still… better than nothing :)
