I'm thinking this wasn't really a sale it was a discontinued stock clearout. These wouldn't be advertised since it would be illegal practice. However the worst thing DSE has done is "confirmed" it on their FB page.

I wish the list hadn't been leaked now :( got my hopes up all over the weekend and couldn't do anything else other than check out stock levels on their website and scoping out stores.

    • Yep why of all places did they go and confirm it on FB.

  • About 10 people in line here ( north parramatta)

  • dicksmith just succeeded clearing their games range.

the also succeeded in received tremendous amounts of negative publicity.

you can say that again, oh wait you did :P

  • lol the website came back briefly and crashed a couple of seconds later lolol.

    • so much for 5 minutes hey?

it took me to the checkout after I clicked 1 item = me saying noooooooooo

  • Site still works for me, most of the crap on this link isn't sold out yet : http://dicksmith.com.au/gaming-sale/t/

  • no matter what i add in cart it just goes away, bs! oh well :'(

Who in their right business mind would do a sale Monday, people have already spent half their money on the weekend going out and drinks and party and grocery stuff , come Monday they have spent their fun money . All sales should be Friday - Sunday . People work Mondays and it's harder to get to stores closing at 5

    • +6

Some people are capable of planning more than one day ahead.

    • Edit: was a bit harsh LOL

You were never taught to save?

  • Pffft…Bupkis…Jumped on line at about 6:55am QLD Time, pretty much everything already gone. Think the on line component of this sale was a dud… mind you some of my local stores I looked at over the weekend had no stock anyway.

  • was the sale actually on? Last night all the stuff i wanted said to "check in store" i thought it may have been they reserved it for today, but when i woke up, the prices had been updated but no stock still what gives? This was the case for the G19, no stock online last night, so i don't think anyone got it online this morning?

  • +5

I think DSE has one item in their sale that really sums up what everyones thinking: Game PCDVD RAGE

  • although they cant get in trouble of stock because they did not advertise they should get in trouble for starting the sale like half an hour before 8 which is when they advertised it would begin.

  • +5

Who loves an angry mob of OzBargainers on Monday morning both in-store and online? Dick does!!!

  • Fail fail and more fail ……. Limited stock in dick smith must be the same as zero

  • +1

    well i got about 5 stores in a 8km radius….
closest being the smallest, i might check it out.. but i wont whinge and moan though if they have nothing..

  • Nothing going on. Don't waste your time there's nothing online.

  • My store had white DSi instock and Metallic Blue DSi low stock. As of now only White DSi is marked low stock (1) - Thanks dick!

    • Same. My store had all 3 in stock this morning, now all out of stock and store doesn't open for 45 minutes.

  • Fail fail fail

  • anyone reckon that the prices of some of the games on that list is accurate? I see that most of the hardware stuff has been changed online (g27 being the exception..) but the games have stayed the original price; reckon the shops will honour it?

    • just keep persisting, you know, unless you have work to do:p

      • +1

thats why monday being my day off are good for :) I want that red dead redemption for 5$!

  • -2

Can I have a QUE update at all store?
    Get tapping!

    • +1

      You mean a queue update?
      And no.

  • +1

Omg there is a q at greensborough

    30+ people

    Edit more like 50 now

    • cheers for the update
I was planning on heading down now but screw that!
good luck if you find anything!

      • Almost everything is full price

  • does anyone know how many people outside dse in nunawading

    • I could guess close to 100…not even joking

      • geez..thank god i decided not to go..only wanted a g19 and website said they had one instock

        • Blah waste of time…no stock of any of the keyboards or mice. Most people just seemed to be grabbing anything they could saw a twenty something year old with like 5 ds games.
          And no dj hero :(

  • Ok well from Whirpool
    Toombul has 30-40
    Sydney CBS has 100
    Hobart has 50
    Hurstville has 20
    Paramatta has 50
    Gawler has 20

    • Which thread is it on WP?

  • Spoke to chick at Rousehill. They had 1 xbox 360 and 5 x Dsi. Said they've all be spoken for but not reserved. Hmmm. Anyone first in line gets them. Preety sure there will be a staff first in line.

  • quite an influx of xbox live gold 12mth cards on ebay over the last two nights ….
mmmmmmmmm wonder where they came from DSE employees ??

    • if any of them put in an honest description "I picked this up from Dick Smith during the clearance sale" I would totally put in a bid for it because of their effort.

  • lol i called 3 stores around my place and they all sounded like "fuck you I don't have anything, leave me the fuck alone"

  • Their websites are popping 500/503 errors. Exciting

  • Misus on a recon trip to tell me if there is a line on her way to work.. I can almost see my local DS form my front door lol. Couldn't be bothered walking :P

  • +3

screw it - go back to sleep/work/home all
wasting your effort if you're out there
Could probs work a couple of hours and make more

    • Expect long wait times as staff will need to check for stock out back.

  • 50 peeps in line. Screw this.

  • Belconnen canberra around 50

  • Just got back from North Sydney, about 50 people lining up when we arrived at 8.30am…. They sent everyone to the counter to buy what they want. Looks like all the goodies (if any) are behind the counter. Few people walking out empty handed and :( so we decided to bail…

  • Just called Bondi and they don't have any G19's just in case anyone's wondering.

  • Mt Druitt - no consoles at all.

  • +1

    From whirlpool:
Maybe this is the DSE staff member who got the items earlier

    http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/barry465/m.html?hash=item256eec53…

    • this person has been selling games cheap for a while going by their feedback

  • 50 in 'line' @ victoria gardens

  • +7

Barrack lane Sydney was funny. I was walking past at 8.58 as it was on my way to work, 10 people there decided to wait 2 minutes. It opens. Dse guy: "oh there is no gaming at this store". lol

    • Even they got in, there are more than 10 people in the queue. The chance you get any console/G24/xbox live points is like buying lottery. Staff took all valuable stuffs, you probably will just get a couple old games for $2 there. Maybe you got nothing at all and even lose your busfare.

  • what are the chances of officeworks pricematching the G19 keyboard

    • not if its not in stock I wouldnt think…

    • nil

    • Can give it a crack but we'll need someone who's fortunate enough to post a scanned copy of their receipt.

  • Ah screw this I'm gonna go clean my boat :}

  • any melb store report? Just wanted to know.. :-)

EDIT : their website is constant in "High Website Traffic Volumes" status too.

    • see some of the above comments :)

    • Why neg? I really did not find updates for Bourke nor Elizabeth store for melb city?

      • Yea you are right. I am wondering about the status at melb CBD too.

      • i didnt neg, but in case you're referring to other people thats okay

but really, Bourke St and Elizabeth st will surely be their busiest stores today. So given that smaller stores like Greensborough have about 50 people lining up, you can extrapolate that and assume those Melb CBD stores will have as many if not much more!

  • Only 19 items on their website for the gaming sale, with a few available instore only (i.e. no pay and collect or delivery).

    • +1

Website items minus instore only. unless you want these items or they are going to add more later don't bother.

      • The were the same ones on the DSE site last night

  • +1

pointless going in. Poor form by DSE. Should've started at 8 and given everyone an equal chance at getting a crash message.

and all I REALLY wanted was the xbox network adapter, which is still $150! :@

  • +1

LMAO. queue at the george street DSE was at least 400+ long. I don't know if they think the gaming section is huge but the only people getting anything are the first 30. I walked off

  • Hurstville DSE waste of time, nothing good

  • well a nice DS worker stuck their head out about 8:45 and told the line up ( all 5 of us ) that the sale was a HOAX, however they are honoring the sale by selling a few games at the discounted prices… so our little local store only had games for sale, he had his list of about 20. which none of them interested me.

he said the real sale is next week and is unsure of the prices.

so thanks to this rep for coming out and not leaving us wait another 15mins and his great attitude.
    thumbs up mate.

grats to all that were able to get something more substantial

    • +14

      What a lying …….

Obviously trying to make his guilt a little easier to bear by blaming it on a hoax. I bet his car boot is full of shit headed for ebay.

  • +1

Got to the Newcastle west one about 5 mins after opening. They just had a smallish box with all the shit thrown in there. A bunch of kids crowded around it ratting through the stuff. Pretty disappointing, none of the pc gaming peripherals that i wanted were on special, couldve slept in for 30 more mins.

  • There must've been 60 people waiting for the Parramatta store to open, walked in with them for the hell of it and walked out as I figured there wasn't a chance there would be anything worthwhile after that crowd went through it.

  • 20 patient Ozbargainers were already lining up at Elizabeth Street at 8:30am this morning..

  • Just tried adding a normal item to the cart (PS3 Twisted Metal) and it goes through fine. Tried adding Tin Tin PS3, and it bombs out… Looks like the sale items are hosted on a different web server or something? Waste of time :(

  • Stuff it, don't waste your time. Get 3 PC games for 10(pounds) at ZAVVI.

  • At least 200 ppl at the south land store. Most of the stuff was not marked so no one had any idea what to buy. Was going to buy something but the queue was too long and have to get to work. No dsi to be found either.. Though it said it was in stock. Did anyone get one?

  • such a waste of time, HN and JB did a better job (in my opinion)

  • No dsi s at easties nsw, apparently selected stores

  • i was in city and about more than 100 people flooded into DS. Then, I decided to go back to work

  • Come on, we need someone to post what they bought.

    • I haven't seen anyone who managed to get anything from this 'bargain'

  • Lol line up local DSE. MAny ppl walked straight in headed for the gaming section and then straight out haha

  • -3

Ew, hordes of the middle class everywhere!

  • There were 30 or so in a queue at the Nth Sydney store. I walked around and saw nothing ticketed on sale but did hear one staff member say that they only heard about it this morning.

    • That's bullshit from staff if you ask me. They just don't want I start a riot for being accused of buying the stock themselves before the store opens.

  • What a joke. Hardly anything at all at Southport. Could have made some kind of limits too. Some people grabbing 20 games off the shelf just because they were a few minutes earlier.

  • +4

    from whirlpool:

"I am SOOOO angry. I went to Dick Smith and the staff posted a sign on the door saying no consoles/handhelds left. The thing is, yesterday I went in and they had these and so I spoke to the person who claimed to be a 'manager' and he laughed and said 'try eBay after 6pm'… I assumed that means staff are going to resell… :("

    and from George ST Sydney:

    "So the damage report:

Sydney cbd opened the doors and everyone rushed in.

mad crush for the games section maybe 150 people in altogether. I have photos I'll upload later.

No consoles at all: some people start pulling the "false advertising"cry, but imho what did they expect: it was a clarence not a sale. No one owes you anything mate.

Some people got cheap points and live subscriptions. One or two ds psp's sold as far as I can see. A bunch of limiting stuff went out the door.

    Tldr; meh"

    LOL

  • Just got out of Ashfield store, most of the good stuff is gone. Some items supposedly $5 marked at $50. They justified it by saying original price was $89.

Not sure what is going on here, maybe managers have the right to mark whatever they want?

  • Menai DickSmiths (Sydney) had 40 people at openning. $100 xboxes sold out before they opened the door. One lady went down yesterday to confirm stock and they had it. Staff admitted that they bought them themselves even though they were forbidden. She's now complaining to head office. Don't like her chances.

Wifey recons most people were buying XBOX points.

Blacktown DS (Sydney) 20+ people at 8AM, had no xboxes on sale, only had the Kinect bundle.

  • +11

I lined up for 45 minutes this morning with 75-100 other people (most of whom had been waiting much longer) at Carindale this morning. Filed inside at 9am to find that NONE of the games had marked down prices. Some employee was explaining to customers that the "sale" didn't start until the 11th and they weren't prepared. I promptly grabbed Rage for 360 and MW3 for both PC and PS3 (all had normal stickered prices). I took the three games up to the counter for the woman to tell me that they were $40, $99 and $99 respectively. Needless to say - I didn't buy them.

So f**k you Dick Smith for starting, perpetuating and failing to correct the complete falsehood that was the "games clearance".

  • +2

I went to the Melbourne CBD Galleria store this morning, there was a 40~ person line, when we got into the store they had no Ps3s, xbox or DSis. I tried to buy an xbox live membership but they said it wasn't discounted at their store! Complete waste of time, left empty handed.

    • Did you try the bourke st store?

      • +1

        went to bourke also bullshit
