      At checkout selected LatitudePay But the price for the U6-LR is still at $319 not $269.

      Do I need to claim the $50 off LatitudePay after purchased?

  • Noob question: Could I connect this back to my default Internode router to simply boost the Wi-Fi signal in another place? I am wanting strong Wi-Fi in my shed and can cable this WAP directly back to the router easily. I don't want this WAP creating a new Wi-Fi network that devices will jump between when on the edge of both.

      Not really. This is really intended to be part of a pro-sumer network solely providing a Wifi Access point. Every configuration I can think of for this device has it creating it's own WIFI network. If you go "all-in" on Ubiquiti equipment you can set it up for seamless integration across different access points but that's a much more complex and expensive endeavor.

        Um, no. The Unifi APs can be plugged directly into anything providing DHCP (or not if they're static) and will work after a quick setup via the users phone. They have absolutely no reliance on the controller or any other Unifi equipment unless you want them to. If you have another non-Unifi AP on the same network just set the Unifi up to use the same details but a different band instead and you'll have zero issues.

        I've got several clients with their Unifi APs plugged directly into the back of a Cisco modem working perfectly fine.

          My point was that Mitch didn't want something creating a new Wifi network. Which is exactly what this device will want to do. I didn't mention anything about the Ubiquiti management controller/software.

            @ndenham: It's not a new WiFi network if it's using the exact same details on the same subnet. It's on a different band to prevent interference but in terms of devices jumping between them it shouldn't be a problem as they're the same SSID and PSK. Of course it's not a proper "mesh" network where all the APs are talking to each other and providing seamless handoff but in almost every use-case scenario the normal user won't notice that when moving between them.

              @Tacooo: I've done this in the past with non mesh equipment and found that my devices would hang on for dear life to the AP they were connected to even when a much stronger signal existed from another AP on the same SSID without something to prompt it to do the hand off.

              Given I had to manually do things to force it to switch, it was preferable to have separate SSIDs so that I could easily flick across in the wifi settings menu. I have Orbi now which manages handoffs nicely, and I'm not sure if multiple non mesh APs on the same SSID still behave the same way but it wasn't great a few years ago.

          • @ndenham: I set my one up with same network details, works perfectly, just transitions across.

      Sure you can.
      Just set the AP to the same SSID.
      It won't be as smooth a transition as your get from a true Mesh network but good enough.

      Note that sheds are proxy Faraday Cages.
      More power won't necessarily equate to signal inside a shed where there was none before.
      If you need shed WiFi, powerline Ethernet is your best bet.

  • How will this go outside mounted to an eave lining? Wanting stong WiFi for the backyard and will be installed on an asus mesh network

    • U6 Lite is not meant to go outside. Under an eave might work out fine. U6 Lite won't make a seamless mesh with the Asus network.

    • For outdoor you might want to take a look at the U6-LR. it has a rubber grommet that covers the RJ45 port and reset button access area.

  • Bummer that this need Lattitude.

  • Tempting, but I’m out of ports on my UDM so would also need to buy a switch. Was looking at the USW-Lite-8-PoE but seems to be sold out everywhere. Most of my home network is running off wifi at the moment, but might put more cabling in eventually. Do you reckon the Gen 1 US-8-60W or splurging for the USW-16-PoE would be the better buy?

    • It really depends on how many things you want to connect with Ethernet. I went with a 16 port just in case.

  • Would anyone be able to confirm the wireless range on the U6-LR vs U6-Lite?
    I got the U6-Lite but not getting good coverage in the back corner of my yard.

    • I don't know on the range of the U6's but you do need to keep in mind that your mobile device also needs to send back to the AP.
      I had a LR and had more dropouts then the standard lite.

        walls and an external brick wall.
