    Don't forget to use your eligible Amex card for cashback;
and, if you are flying overseas in the next two months, get your GST back at TRS.

    • +1

do you have to bring the item with you if you are using the TRS?

      • +2

Yes. They used to ask to see the item(s). Not sure now in 2021.

    • +27

      flying overseas? what's that? :)

      • +6

I logged in just to upvote your comment, needed that morning laugh, thank you.

    • +1

Flying overseas? I tried that, but no-one could help with TRS. Nor when i arrived in Hobart.

    • So if I buy this using AMEX its effectively only a $400 laptop. Is that correct?

      • Yes it your card has that offer, but you also forfeit your $400 of amex travel credit, so the deal isn't as great as it first appears.

        • +2

Considering that travle credit expires on 31 December, uncertainty with travel and crazily inflated prices on travel (and possibly even higher prices if you go via Amex Travel) it's a good way of using this money.
So why not to use this money now? And when you are able to travel you just use your own money.
Another benefit of using your Amex is that you may get additional Warranty (1 or 2 years depending on your card).

          • @bob19: Well yeah, if you need the laptop then of course!… I was just saying, it's not as good a deal as it looks at first glance as you are forfeiting your travel credit.

Don't forget to use Shopback 4.5% cashback HN vouchers. Instantaneous availability on the app. I just purchased $800 worth to purchase the computer with $2 left over. Takes the price of the computer to $762.09 (+ leftover $2 on the voucher to $764.09).

    • Thank you so much for sharing this. I just completed the order for my kid.

    • Bought one just now using the Harvey Norman gift cards from Shopback. Thank you. But the 4.5% cashback is not available immediately. I am not sure why!!! I bought 8 x $100 Harvey Norman Gift Cards.

      • +1

It will take a little bit of time before you could redeem it. Not to worry, I have cash out successfully before.

    Ram expandable to 12GB? Surely, that’s a mistake…

    • +6

Unfortunately that info is correct because:

      4 GB Soldered DDR4-3200 + 4 GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200

So you can take the 4GB non-soldered ram out and install new 8GB which will make it 12GB

https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-3-serie… (the model in the middle)

      • Would be good if can add 16GB ram to make 20GB

  • Bought, thanks.

    • Could you please let us know about the screen? Is it TN or WVA? It's just Lenovo site says that it is WVA, whilst HN says it's TN.
The difference is that WVA has wide viewing angle oppose to a quite narrow viewing angle for TN, where colours and bightness changes when you look at the screen at an angle.
Would appreciate your reply as many people are considering buying it but the deal ends tomorrow.

      • Australia Post delivering Tuesday, sorry.

        • +1

          Thank you for your reply.

          • @bob19: Arriving next Wednesday due to postal delays.

Not even 1 USB-c port! Forget attaching it to a dock.

    • +1

Hi, What is this then in the specification? "1x USB 3.2 (Type C, Gen1),"

      • Do you see the port in the pictures?

    • +1

      It has USB C

      1 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 (support data transfer only)

      • Can’t see it in the photos, where could it be?

        • +1

It's on the left side according to the photo on the Lenovo site (assuming it's the same model)

  • +2

    Screen Type TN

    Someone had to mention it.

    • It may well be WVA (at least that's what specified on Lenovo website). But then who knows.

  • +3

    Just a tip…
In case you want additional product care replacement, for example, 3 years will cost you $299 on the website. So don't add it online. After your purchase, simply call your local Harvey Norman and they might be able to offer it to you cheaper than what's on the website.

  • +1

Ended up buying this today. Know it is heavier but for the specs thought it had more grunt and ability to upgrade.

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-11…

Also shop back for HN 500 gift card is giving 22.50 Cashback so might help those planning to buy the laptop as posted by OP.

    • Can you confirm if it has a USB c port?

      • Yes

        1x USB 3.2 (Gen 2), 1x USB 3.2 (Type C, Gen 2), 2x USB3.2 Gen 1, HDMI 2.0, RJ45

      • yes right hand side

      • Still have to collect mine but seems in the specs and pics it does.

    • Acer has dedicated graphics GTX1650. Should I swap Lenovo for the Acer for another $100?

      • +1

Depends what you really want it for. I got it just for the IPS panel to be honest and not much of a gamer.

        • Thank you.

  • Had placed an order through ebay for https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/654290
and an extra 8 GB RAM.

It's still on it's way. Should I cancel and buy this one instead?
Is it worth the extra $300. I am mainly going to use it for web surfing and a little bit of retro gaming.

  • What's the battery like? How long will it last from a full charge?

    • Found it on Lenovo website
      Battery: Integrated 38Wh
Does anyone know how long would this translate to average daily use?

      • According to the site that you linked… Up to 5.5 hours. According to 1 MobileMark® 2018. Battery life is an estimated maximum. Actual battery life may vary based on many factors.

      • Depends how you use it. Average I would expect would be around 5-6 hours

  • +1

Link to this model on Lenovo website for anyone interested

    • +2

Like comparing apples and oranges. These two laptops serve two completely different purposes.

  • i have a desktop cpu i7-7700, will this laptop i5 perform the same for adobe use?

    • +1

Which Adobe applications? Some require decent video ram as well for rendering.

      • indesign, PS and illustrator

        • I think you would want a laptop with dedicated graphics for a better experience running these programs. They will run but will be slower to render changes / previews etc.

  • +1

Proper spec's (middle column) (as per THT - I started writing this earlier)

Never trust HN, JB, etc. to get spec's right.

Eg. It is TN, but more precisely it's WVA.

    • You'd need to check the service tag. HN etc. tend to get custom spec models to avoid "price matching".

  • Is this a decent laptop to play the odd game of fortnite, COD, etc?

  • +1

Is there much difference between i5-1135G7 and i7 -10510U?

They both have 4 cores and 8 threads

  • Does it have Keyboard backlight?

  • The model shown in HN is 82H8003RAU which is different from the Lenovo AU official website.

    • +1

If you go through all the specs you will find out that the model at HN is exactly the same as @ Lenovo. The only thing different is the COLOUR.
      https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-3-serie…
      HV model # 82H8003RAU
      Lenovo model # 82H800FGAU
I also noticed that sometimes they give slightly different model numbers to the products supplied to different stores. I guess to prevent people from matching prices.

      • Thanks Bob19 for the link and explanation.
I guess the photo in HN is incorrect (or older version), but the actual product is the same as the link you provided, except the colour. I've collected mine yesterday evening and unboxed it last night. Will start the setup today.

        • Hi cttung,

Am keen to get one but really worried how the quality of the screen is and no way to check it out as in lockdown.

How do you find it compared to other computers you have had?
Is it of sufficient contrast and colour to be OK to use for a few hours?

          Thanks!

        • Could you please let me know about the screen? Is it TN or WVA? It's just Lenovo site says that it is WVA, whilst HN says it's TN.
The difference is that WVA has wide viewing angle oppose to a quite narrow viewing angle for TN, where colours and bightness changes when you look at the screen at an angle.
I would appreciate your reply as I am considering buying it for my child and if it's WVA I will pull the trigger too.

          • @bob19: Really sorry guys for the late reply. I didn't manage to check and setup the new laptop until this morning.
Based on the spec appearing on the box, it's TN. Is there a way to check the laptop, besides just viewing the display from various angles to determine whether it's TN or WVA?

            • @cliff-rock: If colours stay about the same when you view the screen from different angles, then it is WVA.

  • sounds like a good deal.

  • +1

What deal!!! Was looking for a laptop for my dad. Thanks OP

  • No camera ?

  • Reviews say the screen quality is terrible, but appear to be using different screens for different model Slim 3s.

A low contrast hard to read screen would be a real let down given the other specs are quite good for my needs.
Need this for a work environment.

Anyone seen this particular model's screen in action or received theirs and can comment??

    • It is unknown at this stage if it is TN or WVA.
Lenovo site says that it is WVA, whilst HN says it's TN.
The difference is that WVA has wide viewing angle oppose to a quite narrow viewing angle for TN, where colours and bightness changes when you look at the screen at an angle.
Would be great if someone lets us know as the deal ends tomorrow.

        • I'm really more interested in how you are finding the display, not just its specs.

Do you find it of good contrast, contrast and clarity? Can you compare it to say a MacBook air Retina, or an older non-retina MacBook?

Is it satisfying to use or does it tire your eyes?

          • +1

@pencilman: Hi pencilman, as I'm not really an expert in tech and I'm not a gamer, I don't think I am in a good position to provide useful info to you. For me, this new laptop is for my kid's education - high school next year. Thus, the TN screen and resolution are good enough. If you are looking for a laptop with better or higher-end resolution and/or longer life battery, this unit may not be suitable, and again it all depends on the individual's need :-)

            p.s. Sorry, I don't use MacBook, so I couldn't compare and comment.

            • @cliff-rock: OK. No probs. Thanks for replying.
I guess a comment on whether it is:

              a. better than you expected, and quite good to use
              b. worse than other computer screens you have used, but tolerable, or
              c. dim and unpleasant to use

is all I was asking for. But I understand, it's all very subjective.
              Cheers.

              • +1

@pencilman: I tried to tilt up/down and turn left/right, and I could notice the quality deteriorates significantly for up/down, but left/right is still alright but within small angles. Hope this helps :-)

        • Thank you for your reply.
Could you just have a look at the screen from different angles, e.g. if you look from above or from the sides. If there is a noticable picture quality and colours change, then it is a standard TN. If it doesn't change much when you look at the screen at an angle, then it's WVA.

          • +1

@bob19: It's TN as it does change when I'm not looking from the straight front.

  • The ThinkPad E495/E595 etc from a few years ago were ~$700. Are these Ideapad the new entry ThinkPad?

    • +1

The model number is different so they won't match it.
