  • Yeah, I was hoping to get a new Galaxy tablet but the prices are pretty average. Great prices on TVs, thanks OP

  • Hisense 65U80G 65" U80G 8K $2970, is the 8K U80G still the same as a lower end model compare with US?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124905226684?epid=8049365704&has…

  • Brings the wf-1000xm4 down to 335 which was similar to the pre order price I think

  • Not a great sale. Most of these prices can be beaten by small haggle directly to a sales rep, and certainly worse than sales in recent months.

  • Probably an unpopular comment given how everyone is raving about OLED.
I bought the 65G1 to replace an entry level 60" Samsung. So with all the hype and coming from a basic TV, I had high expectations of the G1. I calibrated the settings (followed various experts like Vincent, rtings etc).
Is the pic quality better? Yes. Is it mind blowing vs the old LCD, IMHO not really. I don't game so it's just netflix, disney, youtube..
(Yes, I made sure i look at HDR, 4K quality footages too)

It does look great with the flush wall mount though. And the sound from such a slim panel is pretty good. Just my 2 cents..

Keen to hear thoughts from other G1 owners

    • Try Dolby Vision content

    • +1

Just like some people are happy and content with $1 coffee from a servo compared other people who go to their favourite roasted beans from their favourite barista, some people don't notice the benefits of higher end TV's. The same can be said with people who are happy with their $200 phones from 3 years ago and not really noticing much difference to the newest $1000+ phone.

The differences are vast, but not everyone appreciates it or cares enough to notice. That's fine.

    • +2

Do you have the TV in a dark room ? OLED TVs work best in a dark room. Netflix 4K is about 1/4 of the true bit rate of a 4K disc. Added to which the sound on a disc is much better too. If you buy a good 4K player like a Panasonlc UB820 then play a 4K disc with Dolby Vision and still don't appreciate the difference, then maybe get your eyes tested. I bought my Panasonic OLED last year and upgraded from a 5 year old Sony 4k lcd and I'm still in awe at how much better it is.

  • Can someone really tell me, is it worth OLED? Like i know my tech, i appreciate OLED a lot.

But for the lesser price (1.2k), bigger screen QLED this is getting hard to justify!

    • +1

This is like asking if it is worth paying more for the expensive [pasta, milk, chocolate] brands of food. It's all subjective and only you can make the call if it is worth paying extra. Go to a show room (when it is safe to do so) and have a look for yourself. The OLEDs win in most areas of direct comparison but whether that cost is worth it is up to you.

It is worth it to me

      • i get it, thank you for the constructive comment.

    • +2

I had a 75" NU8000 Samsung LED (around $2500 when I bought it), and have since moved completely to OLED (65" BX and a 48" CX) and the difference is night and day, wouldn't ever go back even to a LED with good local dimming.

      • How is your 65BX going? Do you notice much difference between both of your models? I got an offer of $2,500 for the 65" - about to pull the trigger…

        • +1

The only difference that I notice is that the magic remote on the BX seems to track at 30fps and the CX it’s 60 or 120.

In terms of the screen it’s really not possible to tell the difference between the two for me.

    • See my comments above. I pay attention to details but I'm finding it good but not super duper great, maybe my expectations were too high..

      • im am worried about this too.
i wont be using the TV a lot, but i know when i do ill be picky af.
Considering im so picky with my monitor already

  • Interested to know for anyone who has bought or buys the G series what their approach with concealing cables has been?

Seems silly to pay extra for the beautiful flush wall mount only to have a cable duct sitting on top of your wall.

Other suggested option from LG is to have a recessed box in the wall with power point aerial etc.

Has anyone tried or succeeded in having the cable run behind plaster and then through to an entertainment unit for a truly concealed look?

    • It definitely comes with the flush mount in the box, right?

I've seen some videos of people using the recessed box which looks super nice. Unfortunately I have a double brick wall so will have to use a cable duct :(

    • +1

Making assumptions based on the GX, but there's a recess for all the cables to reach so we have a single hole for cables to into the wall. They then come out at the back of the console.

The tv came with a piece of paper the size of the tv which you can stick onto the wall to guide you to where to need to drill.

      Lots of details here https://www.lg.com/us/gallerytvinstallationguide

      • okay thanks for confirming, I think my concern was that the HDMI cables plug but then the actual cable has to bend 90 degrees to go into the wall, since the TV is so thin and flush mounted I was concerned it might cause it to stick out a little.

Surprisingly hard to find any videos or photos of people installing it this way online.

What is the main difference between the G1 and the C1? Is it cosmetic or performance?

    • +1

answered above already. brighter screen, better speakers, looks a bit different

      • +1

This would be worth the extra $300 in my opinion. My two biggest gripes with the C9 I own is the brightness and sound. I don't need booming soundbar sound, just less of a drop off between action and talking in movies. I assume better TV speakers might help address this. The brightness only needs to be better for when the curtains are open on a summers day!

And when I say biggest gripe, I really mean small niggle cause I love the TV and only wish I could afford to get it in a giant format!

    • Read replies already posted

    • G1 is best in class for gaming as well.

      • How so?

        • It's 5% brighter than the C1 but no one is going to notice the difference unless they review and calibrate TVs for a living.

          • @reactor-au: Earlier in the thread people have said it is 20% brighter?

            • +1

              @serpserpserp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljHREA5Ip2M

Its not so straight cut because at different coverage levels its adjusted, in real life use its more like 5%. Its been awhile since I looked at reviews but see this comparison for better answer.

              • @reactor-au: It is straight cut from a measured standpoint, it's measured at 20% brighter,
However, your eyes do not perceive it as 20% brighter because that's not how we process light.

That is a great video to use as a guide.

                • @snuke: I think the spec sheet was 15% brighter but its closer to 5% in actual use because the eye perception isn't linear according to Vincent Teoh.

                  • @reactor-au: LG have stated the the EVO panels (what the G1 and some C1 use) is 20% brighter and uses less power. All test using hardware have confirmed this to be the case.

eye perception isn't linear according to Vincent Teoh

Not according to him, according to science, and it is correct. The panel has a linear brightness increase of 20%.
In low light level, we would perceive a 20% increase as a several hundred fold increase, as it gets brighter and brighter we perceive that increase less and less.

                    • @snuke: Ok I'm going to have to take your word for it because yeah I don't really know.

I think one thing to point out with g1 TV's it don't come with stand.

**A TV stand is NOT included with the LG OLED G1. As this model is designed to be wall-mounted, it includes a slim wall mount bracket. The TV stand can be purchased separately.

    • +1

      I'm not 💯

But seen some comments on here suggesting Aus gets stand either in box or like a salad dressing - on the side

    • +3

Not true, it comes with a stand in Australia. I'm an owner. Make sure you remind them to include it

      • +1

        Thanks for clarifying

    • +1

Not correct, Australia is the only country that includes the stand with the G1.
It comes in a seperate box, if your retailer forgets to supply it, contact them and they will, these are the part numbers for them:
      AP-G1DV55
      AP-G1DV65
      AP-G1DV77

      • Thanks for clarifying for us

      • +1

And here I was thinking for a second we're not the greatest country in the world, boy was I wrong!

  • Where my Chromecasts at?

  • Which one is better value? 55" vs 65"?

  • thanks! Just got the soundbar I wanted, paid mostly with 10% discount egift cards, bargain and delivered for nothing too!

    • +1

Where did you get 10% ebay egiftcards? Or ur talking about some stores? Thanks

      • I get 10% off Coles/Myer gc through TGG concierge rewards (when they have them on sale) and you can buy other gift cards through coles with these, although I did have some egift cards that could be converted to many different stores so I used those. I got that through TGG Concierge last year when they couldn't supply the physcial coles/myer gc.

    • Which soundbar did you choose?

      • SRC20AB…it isn't a top of the line type of soundbar, but reviews seem good sound for the price. Got it for $177.65 delivered (ebay plus free delivery). I don't need anything OTT, just something better than the sound from the Sony X9500H tv we just got, as that is not the best. Now just trying to work out if I just use the optical cable it comes with to connect, or get a new HDMI cable (using IQ4 box as well) I have NO idea what to do lol

        • Thanks

  • Can anyone recommend a good value TV for PS5 gaming?
I also want it to be able to watch 4k stuff as well.

      LG C1

      Sony X90J

BTW, how is X80J ? 75" under $2000 and no Samsung TV listed at all.

      • Thank you for the advice!
        Appreciate it

    • +1

      LG G1 for gaming.

      • Thank you for the advice!
        Appreciate it

  • LG OLED 65G1 4K TV or Sony 75 X95j for similar price after HN GC cashback? Living room has quite bright natural light but can be managed by plantation shutters. Thanks

    • Depends on use, can't really beat the LG C1 and G1 for gaming, they are always first to offer features. Also the C1 and G1 are the only sets that have more than 2x HDMI 2.1 ports.

      • Not gaming. Just for watching movies, x95j also got 1 hdmi 2.1. How much is best price for G1 77? Thanks

        • $5,500 is C1. Assume $500 to $800 more for G1 if you can find stock at that price.

          • @serpserpserp: 2k difference with best price X95j 75". 🤔🤔🤔 Would it be $2k better… And need to buy stand too… And non Google TV… Haha

            • @Bargain-er: Essentially at that size you want it to be a home cinema screen. If you want the absolutel best DV viewing and colour reproduction then the LG. If you are not a hardcore cinema person and just want a nice big TV that'll look nearly as good then the Sony. Spend your extra money on something else. Maybe even stretch for some good 85" TV.

You also don't need to buy a stand.

              • @serpserpserp: "You also don't need to buy a stand." for the Sony?

Yea, i wonder if my untrained eyes can spot the difference tbh. I'm a bit reluctant to buy oled hearing the screen burn problem. Just family movie times for this TV. Thanks for feedback

                • @Bargain-er:

I'm a bit reluctant to buy oled hearing the screen burn problem

This has been a non issue for years.

  • +1

Took the plunge on the 65. Thanks OP!

  • G1 doesn't include a stand, right?

    • Not from what I read in the net. Too bad tgg doesn't have 77 G1 for 15% sale. It would be super tempting vs 75 Sony X95j.

      • Ah right, thanks. I can't remember where I read it, but someone mentioned having to buy a stand separately.

        • +2

Some comments above mention aus LG g1 includes stand

      • Whatever you're reading is not right

    • +1

Look up, prior comments covered this, yes it includes the stand.

      • I purchased the 65" LG G1 from TGG back in July and it did not come with a stand and TGG do not stock the stand separately either.

        • This is interesting. Has anyone purchased through the GG eBay store with delivery managed to get the stand?

        • It gets forgotten plenty of times. Did you ring and ask them for it?

          • @kulprit: i just called and good guys said it doesnt come with tv stand nor do they stock it. They only have the freestanding $499 on their website

            • @sgrusty: They are definitely wrong and if you need the stand probably worth fighting them for (or even if you don't need incase you sell the tv)

        • You should contact them and get them to supply it, they are supplied them form LG.

  • Is the LG G1 the updated/new version of the LG CX?

    • No, the G1 replaces the GX.
      The C1 replaces the CX.

  • Damnit. Just got the 55 g1 for my tiny house for 2750… Oh well. It's a banger TV!

  • 77 inch C1 for under 6k. Nice.

  • Didn't let me select C&C for multi item check out, had to check out all 3 of my items separately to be able to select C&C.

  • Hey there -

for those buying the LG - just wondering why people aren't instead going for the equivalent Sony?

(I'm guessing as it because Sony is not OLED and LG is?)

Any comments from those in the know re the differences?

Looking at the KD85X85J - getting it for a little over $4000 seems pretty good to me.

    • +3

(I'm guessing as it because Sony is not OLED and LG is?)

No, Sony have OLED, LG C1 = Sony A80J, LG G1 = Sony A90J is the simplest comparison, although the A90J is unique in Aus as the only OLED TV to have an aluminium heat sink behind the panel to allow it to get brighter than the G1.

It's pretty simple, the Sony equivalents usually cost several hundred more, are rarely on sale, so harder to get a deal when it is available.

In broad strokes, Sony has better picture quality and OS, LG is better for connectivity/gaming. It's not that simple though, there are far more nuanced reasons to buy one over the other.

      • Thanks for the info -

I've only owned Panasonic (from the old pre-4k days) and a 4k LG. I absolutely hated the LG remote and the operating system it ran. Laggy as well…

Hoping the Sony is better in that regard. It does seem that LG owns the 'bang for buck' in this space, jamming many features in there - like a Hyundai :)

        I'm now eyeing off the x90j (XR75X90J) - 75".

  • i bought the 65inch G1 with this deal, got an email saying being processed by ACT Tug Good guys store
    - called up and they said a few week delays due to supply issues
    - enquired about the TV stand. They mentioned it doesnt come with any tv stand and they dont stock the legs version only the swivel freestanding $499 one on their website

    • +1

Let them know it is supposed to come with the stand, LG supply it to them.

      • I'll try again I guess…

I emailed LG au and they replied with no stand included too

Wow, they must have changed this. I got mine form JB in June, they didn't give it to me when I picked it up, called up the following day, the store manager said, Yep, you should have gotten it, they come included in Australia, and got it sent out to me immediately.
There are many others that are like me, missing then supplied, and may that had it strapped to the tv box on delivery/pickup.

          • @snuke: Thanks for the extra info!

            • @sgrusty: Mate picked one up from the GG on the weekend, definitely comes with a stand (2x feet).

              • @OzKnighto: just got mine delivered, didnt come with it - they asked me to call the store.

Did yours comes in a separate box?

                • @sgrusty: You will have to phone the store and arrange collection, seems sometimes the delivery drivers don't realise there is a separate box

                  • @reactor-au: Thank you.. Exactly what happened..haha. Delivery guy just said it's in the box…. Zz

                • @sgrusty: Yeah, separate box. Funnily enough, I was so keen to get the tv and when I picked mine up they missed it and I didn't notice. So had to pick it up the next day.

Box is just a plain brown LG logo box like an oversized keyboard box.
