LG G2 83" Evo Gallery Edition OLED TV (OLED83G2PSA) $4,990 + Delivery ($0 for Selected Cities) @ Appliances Central

Seems like a good price for an 83" G series OLED, even if it is a model from a couple of years ago

Honestly I have a G1 and it's still going strong, nothing wrong with a G2.

    • +6

I’ve got a Gstring but unfortunately it’s cutting it pretty thin this year.

      • Mine has a crack and the fluid is leaking out :(

        • the trick is to wear it backwards >:)

    • +1

      Hits the G spot?

    • My g1 got burn it so warranty claimed to a g2… keep an eye out for it.

      • How did you test for it? Was it pretty easy to see?

      • My G1 is well out of warranty though

        • still covered under ACL

Great price for such a massive set.

For the current gen version (83G4) lowest price through deals has been around about $6400~.

  • How is this diff to a C4 ?

  • Great price for an amazing screen. I’ve sold lots and they are just good

  • +1

    Yeah great price, great panel.
Consideration maybe - it's still a lot of coin to miss out on MLA tech.
G3 77" (MLA) have gone for around this price.

    • +1

      MLA?

      • +1

Micro Lens Array. A layer of microscopic lenses which focus the light of each pixel.

They make the TV much brighter without actually needing to drive the panel any harder.

        • Neat, thanks.

I paid $6500 for a 83" G4 at Harveys during the EOFY sale earlier in the year.

Amazing TV. Highly recommend. I am glad I spent the extra for the gallery frame and slightly larger size.

    • -4

      No MLA tho

      • +5

The 2024 G4 83" does come with MLA. The previous G3 83" did not.

    • Good price. $6600 at GG in May including install brought down to $6300ish with gift cards. They had an 83 G3 they offered for $5k but MLA was with the extra

Yeah nice! Just double checked my invoice. Mine was $6475 (including delivery).

Then had to pay $430 for mounting it on the wall. That $430 also included re-terminating a power out to make it recessed and cabling out all the ports on the tv with cables I provided.

Its a lot of money for a TV (3x the amount to the last TV I bought). But honestly.
It worth every penny. Gallery frame is great too. The side of my TV sits bang in line with my main hallway. Now I don't see cables visible and its all flush with the wall. That in itself was worth the money. The room just feels so much cleaner..

        • 100%. I was least excited with the gallery frame - I got the display for its performance and MLA. Now it’s possibly my favourite thing about it

    • Whats the gallery frame? Is it an extra add-on or does is it a G4 feature?
I'm waiting for our G4 to be delivered (was a pre-order during BF from LG themselves), and I don't remember seeing that feature set - not a deal breaker anyway as I was after the TV itself

The frame of the TV is different between the G Series and C Series etc. The Gallery frame is a consistent size across the entire TV (like a canvas painting or a picture frame). It also only sticks out roughly 3cm from the wall and is perfectly flush.

The C Series frame width is not consistent across the whole chassis. The brains of the TV is all situated on the bottom half of the TV.
So when looking at the TVs side profile. You will have an air gap on the top half. And the TV overall will sit about 6cms+ out from the wall.

If you like your living area looking as minimalist as possible. Go for the G series.

        • Ah thanks for that! I hadnt really thought about how we're gonna mount it yet - we've got higher power points and a conduit to the tv unit but they're not recessed. I dont think it ever crossed our mind about recessing to mount a tv flush along the wall.

@aragornelessar: Good think about the current G4. You get both a normal table top/pedestal stand, as well as the slim wallmount.
So if your unsure what you want to do. You at least have the option of using the pedestal stand for a bit while you work out what you want to do.

Its an awesome TV. I think you will be super happy with it.

            • @Commander Shepard: Delivered and just on the stand and it looks like a beast. Missus was very impressed with look of anime on it - I think shes coming around to the price.

Question - do you watch much sports? I've only tried youtube highlights and some 1080p stuff I had and the not quite getting the look right - it looks quite blurry and not up the same quality as other sources. Did you need to configure it a certain way? I don't see a sports mode in the picture menu, tried game mode and it didn't make much difference. AI upscaling is on, which I thought would be needed to get some more clarity out of it

              • +1

@aragornelessar: Upscaling 1080p content to a TV the size of an 83-in is always going to be blurry with the current chipset technology.

That just is not enough information to make it look good unfortunately compared to a smaller model like perhaps the 42-in.

In 2025 there is a new mediatrk CPU coming out the promises better AI upscaling however this is not used in the LG models but it'll be interesting to see what LG offers at CES 2025 in terms of upgraded CPUs:

                • @zan5hin: Thats what I was thinking, but it just seems sports as other videos (eg anime, movies, tv shows) seem to still look much better than sports when upscaled.

I did some more reading and it seems its very dependent on the source material for the sport, as they suggest some 1080p broadcasts for sport are still only 720p upscaled - so like you said, just not enough info to upscale with. The reviews were quite good for sports viewing on the G4 so I didnt really think too much of it at the time

                  • +1

@aragornelessar: Daryl dixon s02e01 I downloaded 1080p as it's the only version, watched last night on my 65" OLED which is Hisense, and has terrible processor….. It was blocky as f***. This was a 9gb file so the best quality 1080p you can get.

It also can't handle moving balls like AFL. That's why for me it is either G4 77" to 83" on clearance or a top 2025 model as my next.

          • +1

@aragornelessar: Not Flush mounting with hidden power HDMI antenna etc cables on the G4 install would be a sin IMHO.

            • @triks: Yeah mounting it with the slim would be great, but due to where it is we're thinking of a wall mount with a bit of left/right tilt to be able to see it from the dining room a bit better. We'll see how it goes for a while first!

    • whoa why have I never found this site, thank you!

I bought a 77" OLED from these guys and it stopped working after around 18 months. These do not have the same warranty as a new set and I was able to get a replacement because of the statutory warranty, but it was a battle and is far harder than the standard LG warranty.
LG will replace the screen for 5 years if there are any issues (Excessive burn in, dead pixels and the like)

These have the serial number removed and LG send you back to these guys directly for warranty. They are ok to deal with overall and when I bought mine it was around $1500 cheaper, but when I replaced the TV I could have almost bought new for the same price, but I did have use of the TV for 18 months in that time I guess.
I upgraded a few years when I replaced the TV and actually opted for the extended warranty just to cover me and save time if the TV went again.

In hindsight I would probably spring for the extra just cost for the normal warranty.

      • I bought my C1 from JB HIFI and it ran into issues just after year 3. Contacted JB HIFI and quoted statuory warranty and they organised a repair with LG without delay. No arguing or excessive back and froth communication. Got it fixed up within a week.

This is so not worth the money. Its 2 generations old. Needs to be $1000 cheaper to be considered a bargain.

I still watch my 65" 2018 Panasonic OLED from time to time and I still think it looks fantastic!

My main TV is a 77" LG CX , IMO we're splitting hairs over this kind of attitude, incremental changes for this tech over the years.

Still my point is proven, the 2018 OLED still is a fantastic screen.

83" and OLED what's not to like ?

      • +2

Nothing wrong with the TV overall but I think there's a lot of options and deals that have come and gone that indicate its still priced too high being 2 gens old.

  • My Dad ordered one on Saturday morning, shipping to VIC. Supposedly arriving this Wednesday. Pretty keen 😁

  • How time flies, still absolutely loving my CX, haven't found any reason to upgrade yet

Must. Resist. Until. CES. 2025. Announcements……….
