I was looking for the Alesis SR-16 to use to connect to my 360 drum midi output but for this price it is quite good but with 360 drum I can move it around easily. I have played with it before with my friend's Roland eDrum, it is very good.

You can use wired headphones but if you want it to make loud noise you'll need powered speakers or an amp, yeah.

Well the beauty of these kits is that you can put on headphones and still have it really loud without annoying anyone else.
From the images I would guess it can take on a wired headphone, you can use a bluetooth audio transmitter to use a bluetooth headset perhaps?
Yes, just use wired ones. I wouldn't bother with a BT audio transmitter, you would want the sound to hit your ears immediately.

A good pair of BT headphones will have latency around 20ms, imperceptible to anyone considering buying this level of instrument.
@1st-Amendment: You realise that this drum kit doesn’t have a BT module? So you need a good pair or BT headsets and a really good BT transmitter. That’s why I said ‘don’t bother’.

I paid almost double late last year (purchased at a local shop). Can't say it's being used much (wife bought it for our daughter who had a great drum teacher at school who then left shortly afterwards) - probably one of our worst purchases ever, now even worse knowing that we paid way too much for it.

Drumeo is meant to be really good, but it's not cheap
this is the one I've seen the most consistent praise for, but it's even more exxy.

I think all the free videos from drumeo, Stephen Taylor, and Drum Beats online will take you a long way. At least long enough to have a better feel for if you want to pay for a course.
I think Stephen Taylor has some excellent beginner videos (how to set up your kit, how to hold your sticks, how to build to your first beat kind of stuff), which progress from there.
Drum Beats Online has some really good top 20 beginner drum beats and top 20 beginner drum fills videos.

I have lifetime Drumeo. If you're serious, you should go get a few real lessons- Drumeo is the next best thing. It brings structure to learning the drums rather than just seeking out stuff online, but there is heaps of good stuff out there for free.
I see that Lifetime Drumeo isn't currently available: is it something which is offered regularly?
@RichardMelbourne: Maybe once or twice a year- check Black Friday or Christmas. It isn't cheap though, from memory it was close to $1k USD (equivalent to 4x annual), so you need to work out your own value proposition.

General consensus around edrum groups is that these aren't as robust as the Rolands, but OTOH, this is a lot cheaper.
Fact. I had to do a lot more maintenance with my Alesis kit re-soldering split wires in the pads- I have never had to do that with my Roland pads. Even in feel alone, Roland pads are much much better out of the box than Alesis. This is great value and a good way of determining if you're going to get into a routine before dropping bigger money on a better kit. I've upgraded twice already. :)
This. its been years since the last time i played drums. I have my eyes set on Roland VAD506 as it looks like an acoustic drums but I am a bit worried spending $5+k on that then realizing that edrums are not for me. I am still waiting for the finance minister to approve purchasing this Alesis kit……. :b

@blackpizza: I have the VAD506, it's awesome, don't need to upgrade anything. I came from a TD17KVX and before that Alesis Surge Mesh. The fall of the Oz dollar and COVID kept prices high so I just about being even on the first two lots when selling- actually profited in the Alesis for a two year old kit.
@bxpressiv: What do you find is the biggest difference between the VAD506 to TD17KVX and Alesis Surge ?
@Magik: The price. They're different market segements, so not really worth comparing. If you don't know if you'll play, get an Alesis BUT at the top end of the enthusiast line (TD17KVX IMO) the gear holds it's price pretty well. Once you're looking at $3k+ the market is so thin you would start taking a hit on resale because not many people have that sort of money.
Regardless of what you get, pay overs for a decent kick or double kick pedal because that will last even as you're upgrading other parts.

Roland have a mesh kit for about $900 which is a great starter kit. You can then upgrade the brain if required later when you need more precise sounds.
This is more akin to an Aldi instrument compared to the Roland.

Are you saying that because you have experienced it on this exact model kit? I find that extremely hard to believe as these most definitely have velocity sensitive pads and cymbals.
@DATApush3r: Yeah, never heard anyone who actually owns and/or uses one complain about the lack of velocity sensing.
@DingoBlue: Re-reading your comment, I see what you are saying now. You are saying there is only one very distinct sample that plays over and over instead of varied samples that makes it sound more acoustic. I suppose that's where things like connecting the setup up to a PC and using EzDrummer come to the rescue.
@DATApush3r: Yeah there is some sense of velocity but it only uses it for volume, and even then it's a very inconsistent and touchy affair in terms of sensitivity. Moreover there are only single samples with no layering or modelling, to my ears there isn't even different attack or decay based on velocity.
Also if you're hoping to use a PC as a sound engine ensure the kit has native USB midi. …… MIDI to USB is too slow to work in real time.

Great price. Great digital starter kit. Had my lockdown crisis during last year and got one. It sucks you in though. New sticks. Drum stool. Amp. Drum pad. All worth it though.
How much floor space will this take when set up? Very keen but will need to find space for it.
Just under 1.5m2, depending on how tall you are and your distance to the drums. Probably less if you tuck it away in a corner (triangle setup if that makes sense).

Reminder to anyone buying this - don't use the felt side of the kick drum beater unless you put a pad on the head, because the felt rips up the mesh. (A pad is a good idea anyway, apparently.)

Been looking into options for a double pedal, looks like the two beaters will need to be fairly close together so that they both hit the kick pad due to the size

@starspawn: Yeah, it is basically just a physical barrier to stop the felt/plastic beater actually contacting the mesh.
