Just keep getting unavailable for online order?

  • +1

    Are these one time use?

    • what are the chances a refill is <$10?

      • +2

I spray a little to test, and it didn't seem to work again afterwards

    • +7

portable fire extinguishers are one-time use, the moment you open it thats it, it can never be stored for later use again.

      • Thats useful to know

      Just out of curious
Why are there so many "86" and "107 in multiple stores?
      Are the numbers accurate?

      • not associated sorry, If any OW associated here please confirm.

      • +1

        Pallet amount possibly

      • +4

That stock checker shows a mix of in store and click and collect stock levels so it's not technically accurate.

I don't know how OW's logistics work but my assumption is that if there's no stock in store, click and collect orders are sent from a central distribution centre. That's why when a product gets OzBargained in this case and with most of the country doing C&C orders, you'll see stock levels from multiple stores decrease.

Using those numbers you're able to work out VIC, SA and TAS stores use the same DC (Quantity: 107), another for NSW, QLD, ACT and NT (86) and another for WA (39). Just a guess though.

    • +1

Did drunk me start a fire for sober me to put out?

    • +1

What the hell have I done haha

  • How long do these typically last if not used before they require recharging? Comes with 5 year warranty, is that indicate of it's lifespan?

    • +3

I've heard that the powder can sometimes get clumped up if left sitting around for a long time without moving. I just turn it upside down and shake it around every once in a while. Otherwise it should last a long time as long as the pressure gauge is reading ok.

      • Same here, I have a couple that are 20 years old.
Gauges indicate only minor drop in that time and, every year or so, I give them a flip to stir the contents and ensure the brackets aren't jammed.

        • +1

Please get rid of any fire extinguishers over 20 years old. Not worth the risk of it failing in an emergency.

          • @MeatAxe: Why does a 20 year old extinguisher that shows correct pressure need replacing?

    • +1

5 years. Should replace or get serviced.

  • +1

Cheaper then a hammer, for, you know those "accidental" situations. Just asking for a friend 😏

  • what can you do with 1kg extinguisher? Is it enough for a car/home? Never had one and the ones you see in public places are big

    • +1

It's a trade off. They only last a short time. But these are so small and cheap you can have them in more locations, so your chances of getting to the fire before it can spread is much better.
Would you rather have a 1kg fire extinguisher in the kitchen, laundry, garage, shed and car or a 5kg fire extinguisher in one location.

    • +2

It's enough for any small fires - BBQ, wood heater or candle accidents etc.

My husband, in his wisdom and after a few beers, poured petrol on our fire pit and the tin caught fire. While it was outside, it was far too close to our wooden house and could have spread. We had a 1kg fire extinguisher in the house and, even though it was about 6 years old, was plenty to put the fire out.

We also had a fire blanket, which I threw on first just in case it did spread.

      • -1

That is such a "man" thing to do. You must be the fire extinguisher to your husband keeping things under control.

        • Do you have a bob haircut?

    • We always have one in our cars. Mum's insistence

  • +1

For those unaware, these only last about 2 seconds before they're empty. For home use you should consider a 3kg size at minimum.

    • -1

a quote from the SA Metro Fire Service
"A one kilogram (1kg) dry powder extinguisher is recommended for domestic home use. If the fire cannot be extinguished using a 1kg extinguisher it is too large and you should evacuate."

      • +1

Perhaps, but in a life or death situation where evacuation is not guaranteed, would you prefer a smaller capacity?

        • -1

you cannot cover the whole house with a 3kg either

      • If i had 1000 litres of this, ill test my luck no matter what they recommend

The guy i spoke to must of been new in that case

Does anyone know when Australia can expect to see the new Fire Safety/Suppression Stick (https://firesafetystick.com) available? I think they are made in the UK and claim to be smaller, lighter, work better and last longer than traditional dry powder fire extinguishers. Particularly good for motorsport.

    • I'd say it would be quite a few years as we get things quite late - might an opportunity to secure rights to the brand in Aus ;)

      • I found an AU distributor, they've branded it as Firestryker and charge $189 from their website assentpro.com.au complete with awkward youtube vids. They are 84 quid on Amazon UK.

  • Ordered 6… just had delivered and only 1 in box -_-
