An excellent 1080p projector for grab. Cheapest I've seen recently. I would have grabbed it if I didn't have the Philips Picopix Max :(

Worth noting: This thing only does digital keystone correction. So if you don't/can't align it manually by placing it in the correct spot, you'll have to lose pixels in order to squash/stretch/tilt the image into the right shape digitally.

in this price range do u have something that does the optical one?

      • +11

Just letting people know that if they have more specific setup requirements that they might want to keep looking.

This is simply my first hand experience from this exact projector after being 'surprised' (i.e. failing to do sufficient research). No need to get defensive over something you don't own.

          • +3

@Fuzzy69: Didn't actually buy it myself. It was a gift/hand me down. But figured out why the picture looked shit after a bit of digging around.

Also, it seems from another poster in this thread…

            Epson EH-TW5700

            Does optical keystone correction.

            • @Zaptruder: but EH-TW5700 only offers vertical correction (vs Vertical and Horizontal for Xgimi) and doesn't even have built-in android TV, is much heavier and bulkier than Xgimi. no projectors in this price range in the market offer better specs than Xgimi at the moment. this projector has no competitor.

              • +1

@GOGOSING: @gogosing you're incorrect about the Epson 5700. It certainly has both vertical and horizontal electronic Keystone correction just like the Xgimi plus it has OPTICAL vertical lens shift which the Xgimi would not have.

Using electronic Keystone correction on any projector is an easy fix for a misaligned image due to a misaligned projector installation but the price you pay is image degradation. Optical correction does not degrade the image, and it gives you leeway for small errors in installation and/or to change the position of your image on the screen or wall should you want to.

It doesn't have Android TV but it has smart features to run the usual apps plus voice control plus built in Chromecast.

It may be a bit heavier and larger than the Xgimi (which allow for it's other advantages) but at around 3kg its still portable to move if you're using it that way.

It has another big advantage over the Xgimi which is flexible distance from the screen placement. For any given screen size there is only ONE distance from the screen the Xgimi can be placed. There is no leeway. So if you're putting it on the ceiling and there's a light/air con duct at that distance or in front of it you simply can't get the screen size you want. Same deal if you're coffee table mounting it and your coffee table is not in the right place for the image size you want. However the Epson has variable throw ratio via lens zoom which allows you to vary the distance for the same screen size, allowing placement options to work around any room restrictions. The 5600 is even more capable in this respect than the 5700.

The Epson has a much better warranty too.

I would also dispute your bold statement the Xgimi has no competitors.

          • @Fuzzy69: Mate
            Worth noting
            Worth nothing

  • Picopix Max was disappointing, so many bugs. But it was for only half the price and a quarter of the ANSI lumens..

Has Philips been able to explain what ANSI color lumens are yet?

    • Picopix was and is disappointing. no horizontal keystone correction was a big flaw. but I paid $700 ish for it through Indiegogo.. so can't complain. they tried to sell it saying 850 ANSI lumens. but we doubt it :)

      • I was one of the hundreds who got tired of waiting after multiple delays… I eventually got a refund from indiegogo and never looked back

        • it is a good projector for on the go.. i do FIFO so its really handy for me.. if i connect it with apple TV Then wah the quality is really nice…

        • I cancelled mine and got the Halo. Haven’t looked back.

      • Yeah I still doubt Philips’ own ANSI Color Lumens is the same as ANSI Lumens.

Luckily you got it from Indiegogo. I do like the portability and ability to charge via USB-C.

However JB Hifi is now selling it for $1500. What a rip off! It’s not worth it at that price.

  • Is the XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector worth the extra $1K?

    • mate.. it's completely your choice.. if u want a 4k projector then yeah its a good price compared to other brands.

    • I would say yes..

  • Damn, I bought the XGIMI Halo a few weeks ago for a couple of hundred $ less.

    • return it if possible :p

    • I got my Halo last year for $800 :)

Be careful with a lot of these Chinese projectors. A lot, including this one, don't support Netflix (not widevine L1 certified). You can Chromecast to them otherwise use a Chromecast TV or another compatible Android box.

I bought this model - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001193122247.html?spm=a2g0s… and use a Chromecast TV. I love this machine (though not as bright as the HGIMI). It has a built-in battery that lasts for up to 3 hours and has a decent speaker built-in also. The price is $100 more than what I paid last year but delivery is really quick - just over 1 week.

I have been using projectors for 25 years (just so you know I'm experienced). In this price range my top pick by far is the Epson TW5700 (or its recent predecessor the TW5600 which you could pick up for significantly less second hand, only $69 for a new lamp if required, and has almost the same image quality as the newer model which has smart features as the new selling point). Many projector enthusiasts agree on this choice and none would say it's a bad choice.

It's a real home theatre projector from one of the leading projector manufacturers and it's fantastic value for money. 1080p and a very bright 2700 ANSI lumens which looks great even on a 130 inch screen.

    • +1

Thanks for the recommendation. Genuinely curious what constitutes a 'real home theatre projector' vs a fake one?

    • I do agree with you but these are android DLP projectors and your ones are traditional ones.. thats the main difference

    • your projector is heavy, bulky, ugly, not portable at all. plus doesnt have built-in android TV and more.

  • I have been using GXIMI projectors for 6 years, almost every day, quite happy with the quality overall.

now I use GXIMI H3 (from Taobao 2 years ago for about $1000), specs look similar but no google framework, so I had to plug in a google TV Chromecast,

    this one is better

      Pssst, it’s spelt XGIMI

Unless GXIMI is a counterfeit brand of the Chinese brand XGIMI lol

  • Why are these so expensive when they are not 4k and from chinese brands? There are name brands that are less money. Anyone know if they support 3d directly from bluray?

    • Xgimi is a named brand in China… :p I think the days where Chinese Brands = less money is rapidly coming to an end. If anything, Xgimi have marked up the export models compared to their local Chinese versions.

    • do you pay for quality or manufacturing place?

    • XGIMI is a name brand. There're other inferior brands if you're looking at cheaper alternatives

  • +2

How does this compare to BlitzWolf BW-VP6?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/625472

    • you are joking right? Xgimi is 1000000000000000% better than the piece of junk you just posted in terms of build quality, built-in speakers, image processing technology, apps, durability, warranty, brand name, etc.
