Seems good price. The Fold 3 is still a bit too expensive for me but $1599 for flip which gf wants could be a better choice than iphone

      you masochist

  • +26

They are now ipx8, that's crazy for a folding phone

    • So you can take under water photos? Man I never trusted ip ratings and was always against mixing a phone with water. If it’s truly safe to do so, this is a game changer!

      • +4

It's still resistant, not proof. I wouldn't do it and any damage caused is likely not covered by warranty.

        • Gotcha! I guess I’ll wait for a few more generations to pass before it’s safe to use a phone under water haha!

          • @Edamamme: you can use in shower or during special time with gf. it resist all wetness

      • +2

No I would suggest to never ever do that with any phone.

Plus the ip test is mainly on plain, neutral water. Whereas in real life, there are other things within the water that may over time corrode the protection. It's worse with sea water.

The ipx rating is only for day to day accidents; dropping in sink, left in the rain. Definitely not for prolonged under water use.

        • +3

Sea water is the killer, the salt content will mess a phone up.

Literally only got a small splash at the beach on my previous phone (S9) and a month or two later the charge port was completely unusable and not able to be fixed without disassembling the phone and replacing the whole port PCB.

          • +2

@Soothsayer: if you ever get it wet at the beach it's worth risking rinsing it with some fresh water asap. Normally wouldn't suggest, but it's better to risk it than have the salt water in there. Found that out the hard way too, the salt corroded the charging port. Not a good feeling eh!

        • +1

Yeah I figured that after the last comment! For a second I thought phones had advanced way more than I’d known about! Still great protection though.

Luckily for me I haven’t dropped a phone in years touch wood! Thanks for the info (:

          • @Edamamme: with a good waterproof case on top of an IPX8/68/69K you should be fine, I doubt they're making them for foldables though, at least atm

            • +1

@Anthropomorphised: Yeah can imagine it’s be a little further down the road before that happens! It’s definitely not a criteria for me anyways, but I’m sure one day it’ll get there!

I can’t wait for the day we have phones and laptops that wirelessly charge themselves wherever you are so they never run out of battery 😂

  • +1

will buying this deal be carrier locked to Telstra?

    • +1

      No, unlocked.

  • +17

Wow the RRP isn't even a lie, these TVs are $900 at all the big retailers

      • +33

It was not averaging 450 man come on, you saw deals for ~ 600 and the lower ones were for clearance. 'deals you find' =/= averaging. The covid release TVs launched at like lower prices than earlier counterparts you're just being dishonest here.
Gallery OLED getting massive price slashes on top of decent launch price, Sony master series launching at 20% off? Yeah bro everything is sooo overpriced these days.

43ru7100 was also below the ru8000 so the comparison is still trash since they previously had the low end split into 2 models competing for the cheaper tv slot.

Finding deals is meant to be fun and the dude above was right - you just had to be a buzzkill to prove somehow the value he found didn't count?

        • -7

really got not idea what you're carrying on about see here $450-$600

          • +1

@RogueWolf: Yeah you know those deals are from 2019? Like 1.5-2 years ago right?

            • +1

@Trishool: as said in my origional comment "pre-covid" which was 2019

  • +37

Imagine telling someone 15 years ago that your new flip-phone will come with a 43-inch, $900 TV

    • +12

About 15 years ago I got a free ps3 with my Sony plasma. They were about $700 back then.

      • +7

I think it was a LCD TV, they were going at $2700 with the PS3 from JB

        • +2

Got the Sony Bravia for $2400 (46" LCD) with the PS3 free as well.

      • And now you have to add an equivalent value of a tv to get PS5…if you don’t want to wait for months.

    • +2

Why do i feel like around the Moto Era some contracts would have come with an Xbox or a PS2

  • +2

Is this TV foldable (more than once)?

    • +13

Yes, but then it stops working as a TV, hopefully that isn't an issue for you 🤣

    • Once you fold it mate, you might permanently see a slight line down the middle :D

      • +3

Once you fold it mate, you might permanently see a slight line down the middle

And nothing else other than that line.

  • +15

Part of the deal is you have to sign up to a Telstra plan, which isn't a deal.

    • +2

If you look at phone plan deal history on ozbargain, you will find that Telstra have had the best deals over the past few years. I basically ended up with free phones couple of times

      • +3

        You paid $0?

        • Effectively yes as you could cancel the plan after a month and the phone came with galaxy buds. I paid 99 for the phone and sold the buds for more

          • +1

@mlburnian: How are you able to get a brand new phone for $99? Don't they charge you for the device when you cancel your plan?

      • The JB-Hifi/Telstra deals are not too bad. Gotta love a big gift card on a 12-month only plan. Harvey tries to do similar things with Optus, but their plans are 24 months if you want a decent gift card.

    • signing up for a telstra plan is optional - you can purchase the phone outright

      • And still get the TV?

        • ah right, my mistake

    • +1

Yeah, minimum cost of the fold over 12months will be $3279

      • Purchase it over a month to month and cancel it after 1 month.
        Minimum cost would be $2499 + $65 = $2564 over 1 month

    PRICE in title

  • Any edu prices?

    • any government prices?

      • Any OzBargain prices?

    • +1

      20% off with unidays apparently.
      https://www.samsung.com/au/education-store/UNiDAYS/

    • +5

      EDU Prices:

      Fold3:
      256GB - $1999.20
      512GB - $2119.20

      Flip3:
      128GB - $1199.20
      256GB - $1279.20

      • +1

IF you use unidays will you still get the TV free with it?

        • +1

No the TV is a telstra offer.

          • -2

@Dingus: What if you have a Telstra account and also go to Uni ?

            • +1

              @jv: Double trouble >:D

  • Will the front small screen is too small if you need to use GPS sometimes?

    • +15

Thats why they gove you a tv for free…..

      • +1

The TV is too big to use for gps 😁

    • I find it slightly too narrow, but still usable!

  • +6

The Fold 3 looks great and perfect time as my contract ending but the only thing that that still stops me from changing my Note 10+ is that they still haven't incorporated an micro sd card. Especially when this device is targeted for media consumption and productivity. Boohoo I'll play the smallest violin for my rant😂, but here's hoping Samsung's next fold finally incorporates it.

    • +2

Considering the S21 series removed it, I don't think there's any chance it's every coming to the Fold :P

    • I won't, the industry trend is in the opposite direction.

    • +1

They are smelling cloud storage dollars, so I wouldn't count on it.

      • Samsung shut down their cloud storage and funnelled everyone to one drive (no thanks). That doesn't follow.

    • Same here, I have decided to pass. At least they offer 512 this time, the Fold 2 was nobbled with ony 256. My Note 9 has 512 and a 256 SD Card, all up I have about 512 GB of storage in use…. which is why I am still with my Note 9 :)

I have to either import an Sony Experia 1iii or get a Samsung A52 5G to get the feature set I want and say RIP to the pen or keep my Note 9 for a bit longer and sacrifice a chicken and pray to the phone gods they actually release a Note22 and if they do, sacrifice a second chick with the hope it comes with SD expansion. If they take away all the decent features, why no just get a crappy iphone ?

  • OP, link to terms and offers at Samsung seems currently broken

  • +3

Gotta find new ways to get money out of people every year 😬

  • -3

Why the (profanity) will I need a 43" TV??

    • +3

      why the (profanity) not

  • +6

Is the post missing a crucial paragraph?

Ordering your new Z Fold3 5G or Z Flip3 5G from Telstra and adding a Medium or above mobile data plan means you get access to our awesome 5G network[1] that works in more places than ever. We’re also throwing in some incredible exclusive gifts with purchase to anyone who pre-orders on an eligible plan before September 2021.

Edit: The paragraph above made me think the TV was possibly linked to an "eligible plan" but reading the T&Cs link, doesn't seem to link the TV with any plan?

    • T&Cs state you have to be on a 'Medium' BYO telstra sim plan if I read it correctly.

      • +2

Yes, some of the information seems to have been updated and a new page has appeared which explains it quite clearly.

        2021 Samsung 43" 4K TV
        Pre-order any Galaxy Z Fold3 5G or Galaxy Z Flip3 5G from Telstra on a Medium or above a month-to-month mobile plan by 11.59pm AEST 9 September 2021 and you can redeem a 2021 Samsung 43" AU8000 Crystal UHD 4K Smart TV. RRP $949. Exclusive to Telstra.

        • +1

For those wondering, a medium plan is 80GB $65 per month.

  • +4

im just waiting for the price on galaxy watch 4 tbh

    • you and me both.

    • Ausdroid has prices here, assuming they're reliable. Bit odd that the official Samsung site doesn't seem to have the watches get though.

  • +20

The pricing of the Flip3 is going to tempt a lot of people. As for me, I'm not folding.

  • Samsung offering additional $500 trade in, ontop of the 570 they offer for my s21 ultra.

Which I traded up to from my note 10 for $800. Make the 256gb fold 3 $1429, then add the $50 voucher.

Not a bad price and extremely tempting, ontop of that free gift valued at $299.

Hmmm…. is the battery average? Will it be onpar with my s21?

    • How do you get the extra trade in value?

      • It's literally offered on their fold3 home page.

        Automatically applies before checkout.

  • Glad they're not giving up on this concept and it's now 120hz but shame that the battery size is the same as flip 2 since it's battery life wasn't great.
Wish the crease wasn't still so noticeable. Wonder if it's something that can be completely eliminated in future iterations.

    • Battery life average?

      • +1

I use gsm arena for battery life comparisons

    • They needed to make the glass thicker for this one, as the fold 2 was too fragile. It may make the crease even worse

  • +7

Step 1: Buy the 256GB Flip 3, get the TV and bonus gifts
Step 2: Resell the earbuds for say $150, TV for $700 and the phone for say $100 less than RRP.
    Step 3: Rinse and repeat
    Step 4: ???
Step 5: Free Flip 3, TV and earbuds

    • Shhh!

      • +1

Anyone who can pull it off deserves it. Are you game? ;)

    • +1

      This guy flips.

      • Sometimes I fold too

    • IMO you will have a hard time flipping several phones with just $100 below RRP

  • +1

Can you buy outright from Telstra or you have to get a plan with it.

    • Outright purchases are only available with eligible plans.

  • I think the JB deal is better well you don't have to mess around selling the Samsung TV (quick sale of TV on eBay maybe $650?)
So JB deal the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G (128GB) is $599 of course one needs to sign up for a Telstra plan for 12 months @ $69 anyone know the minimum plan price needed for this Telstra deal? (Well Telstras cheapest postpaid plan is $55 for 40gb) I know one gets a Telstra box but selling the TV the JB deal to my calculations is still ahead, I think, well whos better at maths here lolz
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/643943

    • You don't need to sign up to Telstra for this deal do you? Signing up with Telstra will grant you a subscription of Telstra TV. I think the phone should be unlocked if you're paying RRP. Assuming you can sell the TV for $650 and you can use a 12 month sim i.e. Catch for $89, you're only out of pocket $938.

The other deal works out to be $1427 over 12 months but it saves you the hassle of selling a TV you don't need.

      • Usually high end phones are unlocked and untouched, well usually but updates are usually through the carrier in this case Telstra but I found the carrier updates in Australia seem to be earlier then the Samsung bought phones, well comparing my 5G Note 10 plus a Telstra bought phone over my Note 9 Samsung bought phone

  • Ugh, still no micro sd support…
