Is this worth it over Ideapad 5 pro. I'll be using it out and about and would like some light gaming here and there (e.g Doom Eternal, Diablo 4 etc…)

    -5800H
    -16gb soldered ram
    - RTX 3050
    - 512gb SSD
    - 2.5k, 120HZ, 350 nits
    - 2kg

    For $1450.

    • soldered ram :(

      whats the link

Yup, it's a bit disappointing. I need a bit more ram cause I plan to study some ML and programming soon. 16gb should be enough for uni study though.

You can get 32gb but you need to pimp up the processor to 5900HX for an extra $400

      • +2

It's also 700 dollars cheaper. Yes, worse video card and not as good a screen, but 700 dollars is a LOT of money, soldered ram or not.

    • +1

Ideapad 5 pro definitely better value.

    • Although 80Wh is a reasonable battery capacity, I would expect his will have pretty average battery life. The power brick, at 300W, is going to add at least an extra kg, and you wouldn't want to stray too far from it.

      • +1

I suppose this can be worked around if you have a USB-C charger (65W and above). So if one needs to be mobile throughout a day and not doing anything heavy, they could bring along a smaller USB-C charger and leave the bigger brick at home. I checked the specifications and one of the USB-C port supports Power Delivery.

Hi guys, might be better to try the chat function to try to get better bang for buck.

    I purchased this laptop for 2.5k about 8 weeks ago… with 32GB RAM, 3070 and 1TB SSD.

    • Hi, do you have the quote ID? Just want them to price match your deal. Thanks

      • +6

Order number 4600835728. my chat history was with "Simon"
        best of luck.

        • I tried the chat and got Simon as well.
However, he says there’s no additional discount on a 3070 upgrade and 2464.15 is the best price😕

      • Also keen to see a quote ID if you could PM. Appreciate it!

    • teach me your ways

      • ask for Mia

        • Another fan of Mia.

She'll also bump up the warranty a bit whilst reducing the cost! Got a Vincent Vega Thinkpad P14S from her yesterday too.

          • @thushan: Vincent Vega Thinkpad P14S - What config and how much ?

      • got it?

        • they wont let me :(

        • +1

          they're not budging on $2850

          • +1

@Carrian: I see, well you can always add extra SSD on your own. Some reviewers also say the RAM (from Lenovo) will need to be upgraded anyway if you really keen in getting extra gaming performance.

            • -1

@tighttighttight: yeah just added yourself. i manage to get mind at 2450 about a week ago. seem like they wont match prices in the last few days.

    • they wont match your order number

      • you have an education email address. Lenovo got it for 2400 in the education store.

    • I tried five different agents over the last couple of days to see if I could get a better deal on the 3070 variant, but all refused to go below the price on the website ($2464.15), so you seem to have better luck than me!

All agents said their managers refused to do a better deal for higher SSD capacities, extended/upgraded warranties, etc.

      spoke to mia

      • What's your order no or quote number please ?

      • anyone knows if this is a good price?

      • +1

Oh mf. i paid $2600 flat for the same thing through Mia just now.

        ripped off ;)

        • +2

What's your order no please @Carrian, $2600 is a bloody amazing deal as well

        • did CR manage to trigger for 10% when you ordered ?

        • Tried Enrique, Noel, Sarah, Sid, Sandy, and Gibson but never done better than $2755.

Did you actually just ask to speak to Mia? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

          • +1

@Seansation: hi mate, i spoke to Mia and only by chance. she was the first operator who answered.

            • @Carrian: Thanks mate, really appreciate the speedy response - I'll keep trying my luck :)

  • is it worth upgrading to Win 10 Pro? or better to put that to hardware upgrade

    • +1

Hardware upgrade, unless you need Win 10 Pro for a corporate environment.

  • Whats the difference between the other ebay plus deal and this ? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637586

    • +1

This deal is the pro version. Better display.

      • Is it worth paying the extra $340 for this over the non Pro Lenovo Legion 5?

        • +1

If you plan to use the display a lot, yes absolutely. Much brighter and lots more real estate as well as better aspect ratio. Legion 5 Pro display is gorgeous.

        • The non-pro is no longer available at that price. It is $2,339.10 on the lenovo website so no brainer if deciding between the two now.

  • Thanks op. Got the 3070 model. On the wait for the next 5 weeks.

  • +3

it could be a very long wait for delivery… the recent Ideapad 5 pro deal says 6-9 days delivery but after ordering the update say Sep delivery, and then now Dec delivery… still not sure what is the true delivery date

    • +2

I see someone can't stand the true… but I am only stated the fact of my own experience

      • Lol not sure why someone negged you for that information. Maybe you should be more optimistic: December delivery means you'll get it as a Christmas present!

        • If I don't get tire of waiting, or a better deal come along, and cancel it before then

  • Assume cashback doesn't work given the code is not listed on Cashrewards?

    • Hard to say. GAMEON is on Lenovo's actual website so it would seem likely that cashback would work.

      • $220 gamble :/

        • you can always cancel is 8 delivery

      • +4
        • Codes generated directly by Lenovo on its website will be okay.
        • Codes imported from other sites, plugins, newsletters, banners, 3rd party advertising etc will be ineligible.
        • To ensure tracking, do all your research prior, then click ‘Shop Now’ from CR and buy. Do not browse away from Lenovo to other sites and do not use 3rd party plugins to find discounts (disable them, especially AdBlockers & Honey).
        • If you prefer, use the CR mobile app as it utilises its own native browser with no plugins.
        • Tracking notification for Lenovo typically takes from 1 to 24 hours.

        Hope this helps.

        • Any chance of a big cashback deal, tightarse?

        • so you think even with GAMEON coupons CR will work?

          • @wassabi: He works for Cashrewards so yes.

            • -3

@Guybrush57: okay well, other say don work so i am confirming with him. you have a problems with that?

              • +1

@wassabi: I am not sure why you are being defensive. I was helping you.

  • +1

I own this laptop in the 3070 variant.
Be aware of the slow memory issues, however easily fixed with a swap out.

    Check out Jarred’sTech review.
    https://youtu.be/HIm8vTualEE

Fantastic laptop though, I don’t think you could possibly be disappointed. Especially with that great 16inch QHD display.

    • slow memory is not even that bad 5% not a deal breaker

      • +1

Not at all, I still bought it. Just advising because it is a way you are able to increase performance yourself. Which you can’t do with most laptops.

      • It's more like 10%

        • Only if going from 16g to 32g. And only when your fps is above 70 or so, because it simply adds a luttle to the cpu bottleneck. If you’re already GPU bound, it won’t make any difference.

And if you’re starting with 32gb stock ram, its not even worth upgrading. You’ll only see a 5% improvement about 10% of the time if you’re gaming at anything below 100fps

          • +1

@eggboi: Have you bothered to actually look at the video linked? The standard RAM has very loose subtimings which leave performance on the table, it has nothing to do with capacity.

            • +1

@brimmy11: yes mate, i own the L5P myself. 1tb/32gb/3070 variant. it actually is related to capacity, but not directly. the stock 32g ram is somewhere between single and dual rank because it has twice as many physical memory chips as the stock 16g, which mosly nullifies the benefit provided by faster tRFC clock / dual rank ram. You're right in that it's not specifically to do with capacity though. Some people have been buying 32gb kits only to find that the mfrs are now putting double-capacity chips on them, so they are back to the same issue of having half as many actual memory chips on the stick.

It's mostly to do with ryzen being very picky about what ram it plays nice with. the 4000 series suffered the same problems. Jarrod's videos only touch on some of the testing that has been carried out by the Discord community.

The consensus is that it's not a bad decision to buy the 16g stock machine for cheap, then upgrade to high quality 32gb kit. but if you get the stock 32gb for a decent price, it's not worth the imperceptible difference to get faster 32gb because it really is only 1-5% difference in any situation for the abovementione reasons.

      • 5-10% performance hit is pretty bad actually

    • What memory did you get if you swapped out?

      • +1

Check the legion 5 pro discord for ram recommendations.

    • Just out of curiousity, as I know it won’t be great given power req, but what is it like on battery?

      • +1

gpu limited to 40w (about 1/3 full power) unless plugged into a lenovo high wattage power adapter. also accepts power input via usbc, but even with a 100w brick, usb-c power still limits the gpu to 40w.

Other than that limitation, the ryzen cpu is very efficient and it actually has quite decent battery life if you pay attention to what is chewing through your battery in the background

  • +2

not as good as the previous 3070 deal

    • I know and I keep using that deal as the benchmark going forward. It irritates to pay more to have had it less time.

  • How is the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro different from the Legion 7? Lenovo newbie here. Cheers

    • pro has a significantly better screen

      • +2

The 5 pro has the exact same display as the legion 7

    • +2
    • The legion 7 has less gaming look.

      • +2

Hah, I would say the 7 is slightly more gamery than the 5 Pro.

Big "LEGION" on the lid compared to Y logo with no text, and RGB vents and trim (presumably you can turn that off.)

    • I think the main diff is around RGB lighting. The 5 pro has zones but the 7 keyboard is fully customisable?

      • Nah, the main difference is the materials and cooling

    • +2

Let our man Jarrod inform you.

    • +1

Most notable improvement on L7 over L5P is cooling - vapor chamber vs heat pipes
Having said the heap pipes on L5P seems more than adequate - hence my looooong wait.

      • Yep - jarrods reviews show slightly lower temps for L7 (4-5deg cooler) but same performance spec for spec, and same noise level from the fans.

    • Design, speaker quality and rgb lighting are the main differences. Plus on the 7 the ports at the back have backlit labels which can be handy.

  • +3

Don't forget Amex has offer "Spend $1,499 or more, get $200 back @ Lenovo".

however, Items must be shipped by 31/08/2021 to be eligible for the offer.

  • Is there any word on when the 5i Pro will be available? I'm hoping for this laptop version with thunderbolt available.

    • I was hoping for this too - as the introduction may:
      - reduce demand on AMD L5P
      - intro offers on L5Pi

I think Lenovo technical pages mention L5Pi but doesn't tell us when it'll be released.
