What's this travel you speak of?

  • +7

WOW $1450 annual fee and get $1500 worth of gift card

  • +4

Isn't there a referral code attached to that link? Seems to work fine without the 'cpid=xxxxxxxxxx' on the end.

    • Seems a bit suss

I prefer the previous offer on AFR subscription.

    • I think we all do.

    • +1

Agreed, it makes me uncomfortable that having this card is putting money into Murdoch's pocket.

      • Isn't AFR also owned by Murdoch?

        • No. It’s owned by Nine which is listed.

  • +2

Too many lockdowns, so I say hardly able to use this deal!

  • +1

No more complimentary AFR subs, no more free Platinum Reserve (and the $400 credit that comes with it) and the progressively more useless so called concierge…yeah nah.

  • Yeah i guess its alright…
I think the qantas Premier titanium is better value at $1200 and 150,000 Qantas points (thats if you think that a $1,200 annual fee is worth it - i don't think it is) plus the card's metal!

    Here

    • Aren't the benefits on the AMEX much better? ie travel credit, Hilton gold, Accor

      • Just depends if you value that at $250
        Either or.

        • $450 Travel credit I would value about $300 as it can be hard to use
Hilton gold is great as it includes breakfast and club access (technically only if upgraded but in practice all the time) - maybe another 250 or so if staying for a week at a Hilton per year
Accor is a free night plus some other benefits so maybe another $200
VA is great if you travel for work but not great as a family as kids count as guests maybe another $150-$200

Other card maybe ok if flying Qantas a lot but not as good benefits otherwise.

          • @paultiffen: Hotel loyalty is not worth it unless you travel to the same place often and find a nice hotel under the brand.

You can get free breakfast by booking elsewhere or even at the same hotels but through third party sites.

Even as a plat, you only ever get upgraded to a room tier above what you booked which is what, 20$ extra per night for non-resort properties.

If you get the amex plat, it would be much better to book any hilton properties (esp. conrads) through their FHR program, making the gold status worthless.

    • Also just realised the link says 350,000 bonus points

    • How can you tell the card's metal while paying with your phone?

They should make the graphic shiny or summin

  • Do they still do a complimentary Plat Reserve or Edge that also comes with it's own travel credit?

Also there a lot more sweet spots if you look outside QFF to the other airline partners for 150000 points.

  • Yeah link says 350,000 which is fantastic but knowing Amex I'll probably get declined on my fourth try.

  • My referral for the card says 200,000 points on spend and $500 credit.

  • +1

You can't be serious about $1450 annual fee!

  • My link says 350000 points and 3000 spend in 3 months

    • Yeah, looks like they have increased the offer.
I would be so all over this x 2 if we weren't waiting out the 18 months.
Basically a return business class ticket to (nearly) Europe, + a free night at the Sofitel, + $450 Amex travel (few nights at a hotel in Europe) and the the thrown in status for $1450. Yep a steal.
Travel will be back sometime next year.

  • Haven't thought of applying Charge card but are existing amex holders out? I remember once upon a time they were both mutually exclusive and you could get both bonuses.

Update: just checked the t&C, looks like I'm out.

Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the proceeding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer.

  • In case you see 300K points, try to open it in either Incognito or a different browser, chances are it would show 350K and $3K min spend then.
