might want to make it clear that its 87W PD (60W dedicated laptop + 27W shared across ports)

    Hi,

Just want to check because it isn't really clear on the listing.

How does this achieve 4k@60 when it has active 3.1 lanes?

Just referring to this - https://www.bigmessowires.com/2019/05/19/explaining-4k-60hz-…

From that it doesn't have the bandwidth to do that without taking the lanes.

    Thanks.

Thank you for asking the right questions. I've bookmarked that article.

    • From the same article, but with an update as of DP1.4:

DisplayPort 1.4 can deliver 4K 60Hz video using only two lanes, with a new high-bit-rate mode called HBR3 with a compression mode called DSC. This makes it possible to get 4K60 video and USB 3.1 ports in the same hub, but only if the computer, hub, and monitor all support DisplayPort 1.4 and HBR3.

I presume the specs assume DP1.4 protocol, rather than DP1.2, where your assumption that there should be no active 3.1 lanes would be correct.

edit: just checked the specs on the Amazon listing, and yes, it does say 4K@60hz for DP1.4 connections (single monitor only).

Single use HDMI 1 can up to 4K 60Hz under DP1.4 source

    • I have the DisplayPort version of this dongle connected to a thunderbolt 4 port. I've tried everything possible to get 4k60hz out of it (different ports and cables) and absolutely nothing worked. I finally gave up on it and I'm just using it with 1080p monitors.

happy to answer any other questions if you (or anyone else) has any

      • I think it because there are USB 3.1 lanes mapped out to the port and hence losing the bandwidth capacity to carry a 4k@60 signal.

        • Potentially not correct. See my reply above.

          • @CrushJelly: Well I don't believe that all three items have the required HBR3 mode. It makes no mention of it.

            • @jlogic: yea, no, I agree.

Seller has never replied to a question, so I doubt we'll get the clarification we seek.

The only positive out of this is that it's Amazon, so if it doesn't work as described, it's an easy process to return.

              • @CrushJelly: I just tried again with another USB-C hub that claimed to do 4K@60 and no matter what stays 4K@29. Changed cables to a known cable that can output 4K@60 and double checked what port (2/3) accepts a 4K@60 signal.

Should be called out on these claims.

      • oddly specific question. have you tried connecting this to say a galaxy tab s7 or s7+ or any android tablet without a headphone jack. and did it work? like was all the ports useable? did it detect the hub?

        • I only have a Oneplus 6 on me. I believe it only has USB 2.0. it didn't detect anything at all.

      • Not sure if you have a 1440p monitor, but any idea whether it supports 2560X1440P@60Hz+1920X1080P@60Hz? It says it supports 3840X2160P@30Hz+1920X1080P@60Hz. It seems to refer 1080P monitors as 2K.

        • I don't have one nearby, but 1440p 60hz is within the HDMI 1.4 spec. I think that combo should be fine

Need one.. bought it, thank you OP. I have the more expensive version WAVLINK docking, worked great.

  • Will this work with Chromecast with Google TV?

  • Is this plug ang play? Work laptop doesn't allow thirty party software

edit: Amazon description says plug ang play - good deal

  • Wait so does the cheaper one ($59.49) only have 1 HDMI + 1 VGA slot? I.e., if I have two monitors that need the HDMI slot, it would be the 2nd option at $85?

  • Do you have a smaller one with only 3.5mm 1x HDMI and some USB a and C? Don't really need the other stuff and I would like a more compact one. Cheers

  • Got the 13-in-1 station recently and it works well.
Can also confirm that it works with Samsung Dex.

That was also good price for around $54 on 23/06

Camels aren't kind, suggesting this item has never been close to $109.99…

Any deals on the 13 in 1 unit?

    • I'm waiting for the 15-1 to be released.

  • It's a shame none of these have a CF2 slot, then I'd take the claim "allows you to take photos off your DSLR" a bit more seriously.

    • +1

serious question. are there cameras being made recently that still uses CF?

      • +1

        serious question.

serious answer. Not everybody spends thousands on a new DSLR every couple of years…

        • +3

well with people buying high yielding investment cars. not really sure anymore.

      • I think most serious ones use CFExpress now but there's a heck of a lot of cameras out there that still use CF2.

        • interesting to know.

  • Never mind, coupon wasnt applying properly

  • How do we get it for $59.49?

    • I don't have an Amazon account but I can see a tick box to apply 30 percent off code.

  • Grabbed one. Thanks OP.
Hope it works well with my recently bought Lenovo P11 Pro.

  • Thanks Op! I bought one for my Samsung Tab S6. Gonna use it for games and emulations through my monitor

    • this is what i would like to know since i want to use it on a tab s7+.

      will it work.
