  • Does this replace the x90h?

    • +1

      Sure does.

    • Not really, not sure why some people are jumping and saying the X90J replaces the X90H. For the most part the X90H is just as good, if not slightly better in some areas. It's really not a big upgrade. I prefer a nice rich wide colour gamut, the X90J in most tests falls way short, in some it's almost there but not quite. That in itself is a fail for me.

  • +7

    Any reduction on the 75"?

    • I’ll be honest I didn’t look. Sorry.

  • Shame. I don't think I'd be able to fit this into my car, and I don't think any other retail store with delivery price matches costco. Would have purchased it otherwise.

    • +3

      Uber maxi.

    • +3

Try Sony price match with online chat

      • I asked, got a cookie cutter response about the request not matching the retailers advertised price.

      • I attempted this and was surprisingly successful. It was an odd experience though - I got an email stating the price request had been sent to a manager for review, and received a denial email a few hours later. The next day, another email came stating the request had been approved. Checked my cart and it has been added with the bonus remote thrown in too.

Maybe they've decided to honour price matching requests after an internal discussion? I've attempted to purchase it with cashback enabled too (6%) so will be interesting to see if that comes through.

        • How'd you go with cashback?
Also have you received the tv yet? If you have what are your thoughts?

    Must've overproduced TVs lol

    Prices dropping like a rock

Feels bad buying an x900h not too long ago

    • This model looks and feels like it was manufactured to a lower cost. Much rather have the x90h model.

    • Why, the X90H is better in some ways, you get the nice colour, the X90J guys don't. The differences aren't big at all.

      • yeah I'm really glad I got a X9000H before they started using an all plastic build. it feels like 2020 models were the last year to not use recycled plastics. Going forward thats the sustainable direction things are heading to.

        • It's not sustainable, it's Sony's way of promoting that they are pro environment, but they aren't really, Japanese people have never been "pro environment". Just look at the amount of included plastic with the tv for things like the remote and other things. It's all lies to boost sales

    Beware of their software updates!

Still waiting for a fix since Nov 2020 for a poorly tested auto update, where the Apple TV no longer turns it off anymore, along with spontaneous reboots and power ons after turning it off. There was absolutely no way to rollback to previous version either. A truly rubbish experience that has still not ended!

    See https://us.community.sony.com/s/question/0D54O00006gJ717/app…

    • just read on that threat that someone else said they a new update fixed the issue. It didn't for you?

      • Yep, it came out recently for the US, but still not Asia pacific / Australia, we’re still waiting. See the most recent posts down the bottom for others who will also attest to this.

It’s annoying on the latest Sony’s that you only get 2 hdmi 2.1 ports and 1 gets used by e-arc.

    • Well at least the ARR in full resolution works on the X90J!

    • +1

Its always preferred to have earc on the hdmi 2.1 port so it can passthrough console inputs if needed.

    • -1

People keep saying this and i assume its console players sold on the marketing of 4K120. Vincent Teoh has already shown that consoles remove graphical elements or use dynamic resolution to reach above 4K60.

I plug the PS5 into my soundbar passthrough earc port at 4K60 and call it a day. The 3090 stays in port 4. The 3090 barely hits over 90+fps @ 4K ultra on AAA titles and is 4K60 with Ray Traced games with DLSS on performance mode. Consoles can't hit that same performance.

Also, hdmi2.1 switches are being available now and not to mention and new AVRs have multiple hdmi2.1 passthroughs. There's options out there.

  • I'm looking for a new TV to upgrade from my 55" Samsung KU6300 and I am looking at either this Sony 65" X90J or 55" A80J which are on sale on the Qantas store.

I will be sitting about 2.8-3m away from the TV and the room has a lot of natural light during the day.

Usage will be TV and Disney + for the kids during the day, some Amazon Prime streaming and PS5 gaming in the evenings.

I always wanted an OLED but I am worried that the kids might leave it on in an app and cause screen burn and also that it might not be bright enough.

The X90J has the advantage of being bigger but I have read that the colour gamut is not so wide and that it looks uninspiring compared to last years H series. We have a Sony X930D in work and I have always loved how bright it is and how much colours pop but I'm worried that the X90J will pale by comparison.

    Any insights Ozbargain?

    • +4

At that distance and 4k streaming, get a 75inch

  • +1

ooh… tempting. Though I heard that apparently Hisense U8G blows this one out of the water. I've heard some people have had some luck with negotiating a C1 close to the $3000 mark, so Might try get that.

    • +3

The US version of the U8G blows eveything away but AUS is most likely to get some gimped version. Think it's still a unknown at this time

    • +1

Australia is getting a butchered version of the Hisense U8G. It's yet to be known exactly how butchered it is though - won't be as good as the US version though.

      • Oh really what? How do we know that it's butchered then?? haha

        • All previous models already have been diff to the US and the EU got the shit end too on the U8G, so we might get that or a in between the two

  • This or Hisense q8?

    • +3

Hisense Q8 is worse in every metric, but it's nearly half the price. Looking at the two are kind of an apples to orange comparison.

      • +1

        Q8 is discontinued

      • Any suggestion on around 80" with min. 120hz refresh rate? I see this Sony is 120 and Hisense is 200.

    • +1

I've been incredibly happy with the Hisense. For the price it's amazing quality!

    • ONLY look at the NEW Andriod Hisense TVs. Its the future and I dont know what their chinese support is like but TCL is bullshit!

BUT… TCL sell you a TV and if you stick with it, the updates or manual flash will make them work like they should of out of the box but its a year or more after you bought them! TCL have Andriod10 coming as an UPGRADE sometime in the second half too that could make their TVs bloody nice!

Only the NEW Hisense TVs get andriod, dont buy the non andriod version!

      • Only some hisense will get android and the TV itself will be a crap version of the US model.

Eitherway best is to choose the quality screen not thr software in it. A nvidia shield will outperform all of them and last years longer with the best AI upscale possible

  • Does Harvey Norman price match Costco in store price?

  • Which store has anyone seen this in Sydney?

    • Ipswich QLD.

    • Same price at Marsden Park NSW, ends on 21st July

    • +1

I was at the Auburn store today and saw same the listed price for the 65j. Ended up buying the 75" 90h for $2750

  • Checked a few reviews on youtube, x90j barely has any improvement over x90h, some of them even believe its a step down

    • Has a co-processor, smooth gradation and no 4k120 blur and also less audio bugs.

Key improvements but the build quality/stand are better on the X90H.

      • x90J has less dimming zones than the x90H also, 32 down to 25. Don't know how much that matters to the average punter.

EOYS on TVs was pretty sweet. The goodguys had amazing offerings (TCL microLED & 8k 65/75, Sony 8/9h & Samsung/LG offerings at around the same price points)

Alas all sold out now. But BLACK FRIDAY is coming now as we enter the second half of 2022 and that means in the meantime the price of new TVs launched in March are now also dropping to fill the void! Also dont think they are doing us any favours as TV (OLED on the new LG fab or QLED/Micro/Mini/Nano) are all bloody cheap to make now and in fact OLED is cheaper now than QLED! LG dropped OLED pricing 20% on launch of the new fab series and they have 2 more 20%'s each to go over 2022/23.

65" is now the BASE MODEL, 75" is where they value is and 85" is going to be the pricier models to get all the moolar they can from buyers!

    65" from 700-1500
    75" from 900-2000
    85" from 1200-4000

My 2021 EKO 75" was $900 from BigW with Andriod and its amazing for the money! Leaving room for a 3.1 stereo, Atmos sound system @<$1400 total spend! My next TV will be a 85" QLED or OLED as I await the LG price drops over the next year. I hope these price drops will be passed on but alas INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING costs have gone strasferic! Its cheaper to buy a ship at 8Mil than pay for freight for a single trip at the moment! Obviously this will mean LG/Samsung/TCL/Hisense & Sony will all be looking to get directly into freighting directly or waiting out the bubble and hope its temporary.

    • 2021* (you put 2022)

But great comment. What speaker setup did you go with?

      • I am also interested to know the speaker and amp you went for or is it soundbar?
        How good is it?

Any recommendations for the best 75”+ TV that can be purchased for under 2k

        • +1

I am hoping Hisense 75q8 will drop below 2k. It's not far off. Probably the best you can get for around that price

    • Your prices seem very optimistic. $900 might be doable for your big w Eko tv when on special but for $2000 certainly not a mid range LED 75 inch with local dimming (as can be seen with this deal here). For a mid range 75inch LED with local dimming, you're still looking at $2600 to $2800 at the best prices.

  • Available at Costco Moorabbin,VIC
Can see 6 of them in stock at the moment

  • +1

I had no luck with getting Sony to price match as the cheaper price wasn’t listed on the Costco website.

    • +1

Yeah they won't do that as it could be a discount that only applied to a single store in the country.

    • +1

I got a Sony price match, free delivery, extra controller and + 6% cashrewards.
Also take a look at Sony eBay. They have some x9000h seconds offers.

      • +1

Sony has now also price matched for me, also with the extra controller and free delivery. I forgot about cash rewards though.

Have you received your tv yet?

        • Nice work!
No but it's been processed and in transit from Sydney (gulp!!!!) to Perth via DHL. Should arrive within next few days…
I also thought about the Sony sound bar offer but I use Sonos.

          • @PJAus: I had a call from DHL and mine is getting delivered Tuesday, I’m in Sydney.

Which Sonos is sound bar have you got?

I’ve been thinking about getting a sound bar I thought about the Sony soundbar deal too but wasn’t sure

            • +1

              @innerwestie: Nice.
Sonos Beam. It's very good with sub. Great sound and features. Can pick them up for $400ish so similar price to those Sony sound bar offers. The beam would connect to the E-ARC HDMI. You can also use optic cable but considered as old tech nowadays.

              • @PJAus: @PJAus did yours arrive yet? Are you able to share a picture showing it with your soundbar.

I got mine yesterday and am starting to look at soundbars

      • how did you go about all of this? Was going to wait a month or 2 for this TV, but that's a great deal!

  • Got this yesterday in Sydney (Costco Casula) for a mate for this price as well. There were 10 in total available yesterday (9 after our purchase)

  • +2

Got a price match from Sony by requesting it on their website - same day response.
It includes the extra remote. Price match is 1,978.99. I'm in Brisbane. Thanks OP!!

    • I’m in Brisbane looking for replacing my old 2007 40 inch plasma TV. Can’t afford/budget OLEDs but I like to buy a Sony full array 9000H or 9500H series in 65 inch.
Can you guide me kindly to how to proceed match in Sony AUS website? TIA

  • +1

I got a price match approval from Sony online to purchase the tv same price from Costco and free delivery. I bought it from Sony online and after 1 hour my order was cancelled by them and the money was refunded. I called them to find out what went wrong, they didn't know and asked me to purchase it again. Went back, purchased it again, got a new order number and again after 1 hour 1/2 my order was cancelled and the money refunded. Got in touch with them again and they said there's nothing they can do and I should go back to Costco and purchase it there. They didn't tell me why, but I believe they canceled it because they didn't want to delivery all the way to QLD, because it seems like it comes from NSW. Does anyone had the same problem?

    • No, delivery to Perth for me.

    • I had delivery to VIC. So no issue there.

  • Cashrewards is offering Sony online 6% cashback again.

  • inquired further on the warehouse, the price applies only to the unit on display, lit the one next to that signage

  • successfully got this offer and made purchase with Online Sony Store, did this on 13/07 with the 6% cashreward offer, however it did not get tracked…..
I am really frustrated…does anyone had same experience? Can only dispute after 7 Days…
It does show in my click history that I visited Sony multiple times on the 13th.

    • Maybe something to do with this, Contact support, Mine tracked fine yesterday, I did need to re-login which I thought was strange.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637979

    • Same issue here. 2 days in a row Cashrewards didn't track my purchases.

  • I'm based in Sydney's Inner West. Sony have offered me a cost price replacement TV for my existing Sony TV which has failed. I can provide this brand new XR65X90J for collection from Leichhardt for $1,800. Is anyone interested?!

  • Just followed the Sony Price Match option on their website to secure one at Costco price. Also used cashback rewards for 8% or $143.93 back (in 95 days). Thanks to the people in this thread! Brisbane area.

    • Hey AuRob, is Costco $1978.99 doable for metro Brisbane? I don’t have cashback reward membership, and not too fussed about extra $143.93 cb.
Is there anything I should be aware in terms of inputing correct words in Sony Proce Match section?
I am retiring my 2007 plasma tv lol. On its last legs atm. Did it’s job well for more than 13 years haha.
Does the Sony Online store price match require me to be a current Costco paying member? Does Sony verify for Gold Costco membership details?

TIA for any reply input. Enjoy your new 2021 Sony TV mate. I’m sure it’s a awesome android TV
      Cheers

It is fairly straightforward. You just need to indicate the price from Costco. And I am also in Brisbane and received mine 2 weeks ago.
