Any points experts think this is a good deal or not?

    • +8

$250 for 50 SCs is excellent. A Sydney-Melbourne flight usually gets you 10.

    • Given how hard it is to get Status Points with borders opening and closing constantly, I will definitely be going for this. It’s rare to earn Status Points without actually flying

      • +1

That's where Velocity's SCs through Coles shopping is a winner

    • +3

It's very rare to earn status credits without flying. If you fill up at BP anyway, or the local service station is a similar price to your regular, you're essentially giving away some PII to join, and then after filling up get free credits. 50 isn't enough to make any difference to your status without other earned credits, as it's not even the 300 required to reach silver, but if you're close or have flights coming up - perfect.

      • +5

Remember the Qantas "Try Gold" promo requires 100 SCs earned by Jul 31 - this could well tip a lot of casual flyers into Gold status for a year.

Who's thinking about status in a pandemic?

    • Lots of people are still flying. I've been flying 1-2 times a month since it all started.

    • +3

People taking the long view and thinking about what'll be useful after the pandemic.

      • +4

Status credits expire yearly so probably not that useful after the pandemic.

And these promotional credits don’t count towards lifetime status credits either.

      • +1

Qantas is rolling over status credits too.

"Qantas will rollover eligible Status Credits earned in the Membership Year ending between 31 March 2021 and 31 December 2021, up to a cap of at least 40% of the Status Credits required to retain your customer’s tier. This rollover will apply for Membership Years starting between 1 April 2021 and 1 January 2022. "

Will this count towards lifetime status credits?

    • Edit - I was incorrect - See below

    • +1

“Bonus Status Credits could take up to 8 weeks to be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. Bonus Status Credits will not contribute towards any Platinum or Platinum One Bonus Rewards, Loyalty Bonuses, Lifetime status and any Qantas Status Accelerator. “

Makes it no deal for me.

        • +4

What makes it a bad deal for others then? Terrible use of a neg vote!

        • +1

Not worth a neg, but worth OP adding something like "Status credits may take 8 weeks to be credited, and do not count towards Platinum/Platinum One status, lifetime status or a few other targets"

    • +1

No it doesn't (first time I've seen it where SCs don't also contribute to lifetime status)

  • is using BPme app also included in earning the SC?

  • +1

When you fill up do you just scan the BP Rewards barcode or you scan the Qantas card to earn the status credit?

  • I’m waiting for Rex to start flying international.

    • Putin : you will need to wait for a generation or so

  • How long can you keep the status points? Can you use the points on international travel?

    • +1

Until your status roll over date (under 12 months).

They're not points and can't be redeemed

  • Thanks,

Good way to accumulate some more status credits since flying has dramatically decreased.

  • Sorry for the newb question but what does 50 status point entitle you to?

    • +3

not much, however with a couple of flights and work you could get to 300. That's when you hit silver status. Whether that's worth it to you is up to you tho.

  • +4

but ozbers only put 7/11 fuel into their choppers

    • No, Ozbers only put Costco fuel into their choppers

      • but costco is not everywhere and it requires a membership fee

    • Hoping Velocity do the same deal with 7/11.

  • +1

this or just filling up at costco ?

    • +1

      exactly i was thinking lol

    • I did the math as someone who fills up with 7/11- depending where you live its about $25-40 gonna cost you extra that you could have gotten in extra fuel to earn the 50 status credits.

So you have to see if $40 is worth the 50 staus credits. If you are planning on reaching silver which is 300 status credits and plan to fly more then it might be worth it. Though since domestic travel only exists at this point it might be hard to get those extra $250 status credits.

Keep in mind that a flight from SYD to MEL is only 10 status credits through economy. so you gotta do a lot of flying :)

  • im pretty sure i had some status credit then i checked my app and i have 0 lol

ok i checked and my 150 status credit expired 1st Nov and i have until Oct 2021 to get 300 status credits to get silver status… stuff that lol especially when we aren't flying and plus im not rich to travel qantas all the time, i'm trying to get the cheap deals like with jetstar lol

  • Any idea if SA is eligible since BP here is OTR?

Just found out we miss out :-(

    • There are some BP servos in SA - most are OTR but there are a few.

    • Yes, SA is eligible so long as you got to a servo that has BP Rewards.

      • +1

And make sure if you're in the bpme app that you've selected the filter to only show BPs/OTR that give BP Rewards. Most around me do not.

  • Status credits make no sense now given Qantas is extending membership for most due to lockdown

  • -1

I wasn't going to bother, but then realised that this could be a little bit more on the way to lifetime silver… (need 550)

  • +1

    Simpleton here,
What are status credits used for?

    • +1

There are points, and status credits.

Points - exchange for flights or upgrades (or toasters if you don't fly).
Status - the more status credits you have, you reach say, silver, gold, platinum status. Each level entitles you to more benefits - eg lounge access, say.

    Can someone answer this please

Don’t forget to scan your card when you pay.

Which card are we talking about? Qantas FF or BP gives some card?

    • From the 'Important Information' section of linked page:

A member is required to scan their linked BP Rewards card or Frequent Flyer card at the time of each purchase.

There's also a 'How to scan' section detailing the options (app/physical card/digital wallet)

      https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/member-offers/bp…

    • Either can work. Just make sure your BP card is switched to earn Qantas points and not BP points if you are using that.

  • Just double checking that we don’t need to activate anything? QFF and BP linked already.

  • went to BP to spend $50 on fuel, the previous customer also bought $50 worth of fuel.. Lol
