AmEx Statement Credit: Spend $60 or More in One Transaction at EG Ampol, Get $5 Back (up to 3 Times) @ American Express

1380

Even though I almost exclusively purchase fuel at EG Ampol, I use these offers to purchase WISH gift cards in-store. If you are purchasing fuel to take advantage of this offer, please note you can stack it with any of the fuel discount offers listed here or any Everyday Rewards points offers (where applicable).

This offer is not available at any Ampol service stations not operated by EG (including Ampol Foodary). If you want more information on picking the difference between an EG Ampol service station and another type of Ampol service station, please refer to this FAQ.

Please note the wording of this offer (spend $60 or more, in one transaction, Offer is limited to a maximum of … $5 credit per eligible transaction) suggests you cannot make 1x $180 payment to get the full $15 credit.1 If you want to spend $120 or $180 in one visit, ask the service station attendant to do $60 split payments and then use your AMEX each time.

Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $60 or more, in one transaction, in-app or in-person at EG Ampol by 31/03/2025 to receive a $5 credit, up to maximum of 3 times. Limited to the first 20,000 Cards to save the offer. Exclusions apply.

Offer terms:

  • Offer only valid at EG Ampol co-branded locations.
  • To make payments in-app you must first load your Card to the app using a compatible device. Prior to spending or making a purchase, you must ensure that the location accepts in-app payments.
  • Valid for payments made by 31/03/2025 to be eligible for offer.
  • Offer is limited to a maximum of $15 credit per Card and $5 credit per eligible transaction.
  • Offer is limited to the Card to which the offer is saved and only spend on this Card counts towards the Offer.
  • Excludes transactions where you do not spend directly with your Card to which the offer is saved, in-app (Apple Store or Google Play) or in-person at EG Ampol co-branded locations. Offer valid at Australian app and locations only.
  • Excludes transactions made through a third party establishment or payment processor.
  • Credit is not redeemable for cash or other payment form.
  • Credit should appear on your billing statement within 15 business days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from the offer end date.
  • Credit will not be applied to your Card Account if your Card has been suspended or cancelled.
  • Credit may be reversed if your qualifying purchase is refunded or cancelled.
  • Full Offer Terms available here.

  1. During a similarly-worded AMEX offer at EG Ampol last year, this person made a $180 payment and only received $5 back. Similarly, during the recent AMEX offer for independent liquor stores (spend $100 or more in one transaction, get $30 back), this person made a $400 payment and only received $30 back.

Thanks Wookie. Didnt know they sell physical wish gift card instore.

EG Ampol actually sell a semi-decent range of gift cards (including Amazon gift cards), although stock will vary from store to store. I suggest you check out the GCDB page for EG Ampol to see the other types of gift cards spotted at EG Ampol.

Also, keep in mind the full range of gift cards may not be on display in the convenience store, so you may need to ask staff whether they stock a particular gift card. When I went to one EG Ampol last year to purchase a WISH gift card, it was stocked behind the counter out of sight of the customer.

The offer on my AMEX card is a bit different. It's more difficult but slightly more rewarding: Spend $60 or more three times and get $20 back.

    • Yup, me too. So, spend 180 to get 20.

      • the T&Cs say it needs to be in 3 transactions so not sure if you can spend $180 in 1 and get $20

    • +2

Damnit, I got the crap offer this year!

    • I got this one too.

    • Dont have any offer >_<

  • +3

Mine has “Spend $60 or more in store or on the app, three times, and get $20”. Amex Platinum Charge cards.

  • +1

    Interesting 🤔
I've got a spend $60 three times, and get $20 back. Thanks Wookie 😊

    • I was going to post the exact same thing I've also got that spend 3x$60 to get a single $20 back.

      Slightly better I guess

  • +1

I got a slight variation of this offer.

“Spend $60 or more 3 times, and get $20 back”

    TnC says one $20 credit.

  • Thanks got it on 5x Qantas Discovery cards but not on my Velocity Escapes.

  • Thanks, OP.

Do you earn EDR points when purchasing WISH GC at EG?

  • Not on Velocity Escape.

    • Not showing on my Velocity Platinum either.

      • +1

Well that’s sad. $440 annual fee not able to get back $5? Amex is becoming truly pathetic…

  • Thanks Wookie, will buy Wish gift cards

  • Got it on my main card but not the supplementary one.

  • None on Amex Essential this time

    • +1

It looks like it is hit and miss as I got the "Spend $60 or more 3 times, and get $20 back" on my Essential card

  • I activated my Amex velocity premium card few days ago and no offers are showing up in my app. Do you know when I can expect to see offers load up?

  • Offer only valid where $60 or more has been charged to your Card 3 times to receive one $20 credit.
they bold the 3 times and one…
so on my card it is spend 180 get 20 back……..
    not a great deal

    • +3

$20 is better than $15. $15 is better than nothing. One trip, one till transaction for Fuel and a GC totalling $180, three $60 payments. Easy

      • it's only 1 $20 payment after 3 separate transactions > $60

        • +2

Yes, and I point out you can do it in one trip as per the above with 3 payments.

  • What denominations of giftcards do they sell in store?

    • Variable load

  • so I can get a $60 wish gift card?

    • +1

      Yes.

Or you can get a $120 (or $180) WISH gift card and do split payments of $60, because AMEX considers each split payment a separate transaction.

      • I went into two EG Ampol stores today and neither had wish gift cards for sale unfortunately. So don't assume all stores will have…

  • great! the people waiting behind me get annoyed when I start with the split payments. At least I can still benefit from this deal with my electric car!

    • Make sure to park it in front of a pump too

      • And make use of the free windscreen washer.

  • it seems ok to spend $180 at once and receive $20 credit back

    • +2

Three payments are expected to be necessary. Or have you done it with just one payment?

A lot of hoops to jump thru for 5 bucks

    • +1

Spending $60 on fuel is a lot of hoops? Do you keep your credit card hidden in an escape room or something?

  • Thanks OP, great deal!

  • No dice on my 2 primary platinums sadly.

Usually I get an automatic email confirmation from American Express when I make a qualifying purchases, but I didn't get any for this offer.

    Let's see what happens.

    • Email confirmations for redemption of AmEx statement credit deals have been hit and miss for a few years now. I used to get the email nearly instantly in the past but these days they can turn up 24-72 hours later or even not at all but the credits still come through as usual.

    • I find I only get the email confirmation about 50% of the time nowadays.

I spent $60 at EG Ampol yesterday, and I just looked at the Savings tab of the AMEX offers section on the AMEX website, where I can already see the $5 credit for that transaction.

Also, I think I am the only person who did not get an email confirmation from the recent independent liquor store offer, and it took 12 or 13 business days for me to get the statement credit.

  • +2

Success, 3 separate transactions recorded on 2 Feb, one petrol + gift card with payment spilt into two over $60 payments and the other one a $60 gift card. No email confirmation received, even though I have always received them with previous offers, credit $20 showing on account this morning - success!

    • Well done! What gift card did you purchase?

      • For me, I bought a WISH gift card with $60 loaded onto it on the weekend, and the $5 statement credit came though this morning.

      • +1

Same, I purchased Wish Gift Cards as per @WookieMonster recommendation / comment above. Thanks @WookieMonster.

  • Has anyone seen EG Ampol stocking Activ Visa in a denomination other than $50 or $100? I want to pay some traditionally non-points earning Government bills and even eating the activation fees this could be a good discount and the points are handy too.

  • So get $60 of fuel. Walk around and then get $120 gc and split in 2 payments. I feel shameful asking for 3 split payments.

  • Is there any EG Ampol in Sydney that sell Wish giftcard?

    • The EG Ampol in Campbelltown does, purchased 3 x $60 from there and got the $20 credit.

      • Thanks! I've called several store around CBD and none sell WISH gift card

        • You're welcome!

  • 2nd card attempt, not so successful. Requested to purchase one $180 Wish gift card and make 3 split payments. Cashier confirmed all okay. Commenced transaction with one successful $60 payment, then the manager noticed I was using the same card for the second transaction and would not allow further splitting, had to pay the balance $120 as the second transaction. So now need to make a separate visit to make the third $60 transaction.

    • Wow wtf, the power trip of some people…

      • Amex blocked my car when I tried 3 back to back transactions. 2 were ok but 3rd attempt triggered fraud block. I had to call them to unlock it but 3rd payment was made using different card as queue was building up behind me.

  • Thank you. I hadn't paid much attention to these offers in the past because I don't have one of these near me.
Will go find one next time I need fuel and check out their gift cards
