Cheers OP, even have stores in Tassie! Got it on supplementary cards as well but won't spend $1600! So just activated one

Wonder if any of them sell amazon gift cards lol

  • FYI Canberra locations are in the NSW list. 3 of them

TANMEL PTY LTD UNIT 3A 29 O'HANLON PL NICHOLLS
TANMEL PTY LTD UNIT 1 BELCONNEN
CIVIC PUB 8 LONSDALE ST BRADDON
      CELLARBRATIONS BRADDON UNIT 4 & 5 BRADDON

      • +1

Was thinking that since it's just Civic pub listed, you might be able to get a feed and a few beers and still get this deal. Amex don't know what you bought, they just see the business name and amount spent.

  • Cellar brations is listed in most states. They sell Coles myer gift cards still? Correct? If so, yay

    • No wait, I'm thinking of vintage cellars, never mind

    • +1

Cellarbrations is a liquor brand owned by Metcash, the same folks who own the rights to the IGA brand in Australia.

      • IGA/Metcash gift cards then?

        • +2

Had a look, should be able to.
HOME hardware, Mitre10, IGA, Foodland (SA), Thirsty Camel, should all be able to be bought there, time to head in and have a look.

      • +1

The Cellarbrations branded GC is an eftpos card with metcash listed on the back.
Do we know where it can be spent?

        • +2

I have already spent some at IGA stores for groceries

        • Actually, this was answered earlier in the thread.

  • There's an IGA Plus Liquor store listed near me. Might pay a visit to that store to checkout Gcs.
Is anyone aware though, if they sell GC's ?

    • My local IGA Plus Liquor doesn't sell giftcards.

      • Same here. I am going to guess none of these listed independent IGA Liquor stores sell GC.

I wonder if food expenses at some of these hotels qualify?

    Not on my Amex, targeted

Nick's wine merchants is participating. Great option!

    • +1 for Nick's wine merchants. Great selection of interesting wines at good prices

    • Nick's wine is primarily online based now? The terms reference online transactions are ineligible, Has anyone purchased via online on Nick's wine or any other eligible merchant and received Amex credit confirmation? Does Amex strictly monitor the online/in-store to issue the credit? (understand terms reference specifically to online transactions being ineligible)

  • I checked out the participants and none in Toowoomba. A few independent shops here though.

  • +1

Can I use four times in the same shop? or can I spend $400 in one transaction to get $120?

    • instructions are pretty clear… spend $100+, receive one $30 credit

    • +1

If you spend $400 in one transaction you will only get $30 back. Better to split it into 4 transactions of $100 each

    • Yes, 4 times in the same shop, just needs to be 4 transactions on Amex. If they will split payments then it could be $400 worth of stuff, but needs to be 4 separate payments.

      • +4

Historically Amex have credited $120 with $400 spend. But someone would need to test it out.

        • +2

I've also been able to do single transaction covering the whole amount in the past to get the entire cash back

    • +1

A very legitimate question. We can all read the T&C. But Amex offers have usually been rather easy in awarding the entire multi-times cashback in a lumpsum for spending the entire amount in a lumpsum.

Not sure why people want to downvote a question like this. I've upvoted to restore.

  • Shame none near me
    Good deal for sure.

  • Not many Ïndependent"retailers Cellarbrations mainly on PDF What about Gefen Liquor in Melbs?

  • +1

Assuming those are the gift cards you can find in the IGA / Cellarations stores listed.

  • Interesting selection for QLD to say the least… 11 North QLD, a few Wide Bay through Sunny Coast, and a grand total of 3 in Brisbane, all south side. Guess I won't be using this.

  • +2

I noticed the IGAs in Melbourne top up Myki. A potential play would be to put $400 on your Myki, get $120 cashback. Then apply to withdraw the money from your Myki. Or wait for your Myki to expire and ask for a refund.

    https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/tickets/refunds-compensation-and-…

    • How long before Myki expires? 2 or 4 years?

    • You can just get a mobile myki for free.

  • -1

Just beware it's not all IGA stores, only some…

I am guessing there is no way for Amex to tell if you've bought alcohol or GC? Is that the idea (if you don't want liquor)? In fact, looking at the offer again, despite the title of making it about independent liquor stores, it doesn't specify you need to buy liquor.

Also, anyone tried paying $400 in one go and see if you get $120 cashback lump sum? I've got it on a dozen cards including supps. Don't really relish doing this 48 times. LOL.

I know usually if it says "one or more times", it will apply the full cashback if you just pay the total in a lumpsum. Once there was an offer that specified "one cashback per transaction". But this one is neither.

    • No, there is no way in Australia for them to do this

  • +4

Employee at Cellarbrations told me a Cellarbrations branded gift card can be used at any Metcash business. So in theory, you could buy 4 x $100 gift cards and use them at IGA, Home hardware, Mitre 10 etc. He said it’s not advertised as such but it can be done.

    • +4

Yep, that has been my experience (at least with IGA).

      • Nice. Havent been to IGA for 10 years and only been to mitre10 to pickup the cheap power station

        • It may be worth checking out IGAs near you to see whether they sell any third-party gift cards, because at least one chain using the IGA brand (Ritchies) appear to sell a limited range of gift cards. That could be one way to burn through Cellarbrations gift cards…

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Will they let you buy a gift card with another gift card?

            • +4

@JIMB0: Considering Cellarbrations gift cards are simply prepaid eftpos gift cards that (should) only work at businesses under the Metcash umbrella, all you need to tell the checkout operator is that you want to pay using card.

Someone else also told me they used their Shop Local gift card (which is also just a prepaid eftpos gift card) to purchase a gift card from a Ritchies about a month ago.

Whether the staff member serving you demands to see the type of card you want to use is a different question…

          • +3

@WookieMonster: It seems to be exceedingly rare for IGA to even sell gift cards nowadays, most stores I've been to don't even sell IGA gift cards.

          • @WookieMonster: Any clues which IGA this is? Went to a Melbourne Richies that had no GCs recently.

            • @faithdealer: I know it was a Ritchies in Melbourne, but nothing more specific than that. (Sorry.)

      • Can confirm this is still an option. Purchased Cellarbrations GC and used it in IGA today for groceries.

    • Most likely those are the "proper" Cellarbrations stores, not the independent ones. The independent ones don't seem to sell GCs at all…

Thanks for the promo code. Got 3 whisky from Coles for $151 (Bushmills 10, Singleton 12, and Glenmorangie 10). X’mas shopping sorted :)

I bought 4 x $100 Cellarbrations gift cards yesterday (separate transactions) and then used them all at Mitre 10 no probs. "Saved" me $120 on the bbq I was buying

    • +2

Which store? Every store I rang either has the phone disconnected, or doesn't sell GCs.

      • -4

A few stores in SA sell the gift cards

        • Which Store?

          • +2

@talktome: I am starting to think maybe he went to a chain Cellarbration rather than independent Cellarbration. I have had a manager from an independent Cellarbration tell me they don't sell Cellarbration GC because they are independent. And every independent Cellarbration or IGA I rang said no GCs.

This means this deal is actually only good for alcohol or grocery at the time. Significantly less useful than previously thought. Oh well.

            • +1

@Jstrrrr: No issues here in Tas for at least one of the stores on the list. Cellarbrations GC, usable across MetCash/IGA stores…..

  • has anyone tried spending $200 or more in a single transaction and seen the credits come through? i don't have any stores particularly close to me, so unfortunately not so easy for me to test out

  • Anyone tried spending $200 or $300 or $400 and received $60, $90 or $120 cashback?

    • +12

I spent $400 in a single transaction and only got $30 cashback.

      • Thanks….

      • +1

        thanks but, d**n! that hurts.

    • +2

The wording for this deal is 'in one transaction'. It needs to be 'in one or more transactions' for it to work like that.

      • I guess now we know. It all adds to the mental database of how Amex offers work over time.

      • So @littlegiants could spend $0.01c 3 times and get the remaining credits?

        • No, only one credit is issued per transaction of $100 or more. They won't issue credits based on total spend.

        • If it said "one cash back per transaction", then this technique would work. But this deal doesn't say that. Amex has been tweaking the language of these offers.

    • I spent $200 but asked the staff to do split payment $100 each. I can confirm that i received 2 x $30 cashback.
Notes: took a while for the staff to figure out on how to do the split payment

  • Has anyone managed to use this offer to buy a gift card in WA?

    • +1

yes - Cellarbrations sell GC. jsut give them a call before you go

      • +1

I have managed to get some.

  • Petaluma Croser bubbles is 2 for $46. So if you buy $100 gift card and then use it to buy 2 bottles then you could say it cost you 30% off which is ~$16.10ea. Bargain!

  • Called a Cellarbrations in Sydney to confirm if they sell GCs. They do, but were very clear that you can’t use an Amex to purchase it. Presume they got swamped with Ozbargainers over the past few weeks and have caught on 😅

    • +1

That’s just plain ridiculous and wrong!just tap and pay…..oh dear so sad!

    Gift cards work lol

    • What store?

        • I mean which retailer and which gift card? Don't need to know location lol.

        • they sell Amazon gift cards? :O

          • @magster: Yep i found one that does. Took a bit of time but finally paid off

            • @easternculture: Could you at least share the name of the retailer? Don't need the location

                • @easternculture: Thanks for this very helpful comment - not the first like this and no doubt not the last either! I am not quite sure what you are risking but each to his own.

                  Happy New Year @easternculture!
