I prefer my head with a pistol grip.

    • For video work pan and tilt is helpful.

  • Tripod noob here but wanting one for a Canon DSLR.

Should I get the tripod from this deal or this or this?

    • Either one will meet your need. There are people (that includes me ;-) ) who want nothing less than Manfrotto and the likes for their perceived quality, design and reputation, this deal is for them.

Any tripod will up your game tremendously.

That being said, this one will probably be of a much higher quality than the Neewer ones. They're marvellous for the price, but Manfrotto has been around since the 1960s and has a deserved reputation for quality. Since there's only $47 difference in the price, I'd be inclined to get the Manfrotto: it will probably pan more smoothly and vibrate less.

I really hate spending money for a brand but for something like a tripod or a lightstand which I'm relying on to hold much more expensive gear I'm not keen to take any risks on quality!

It isn't just the brand name, but that I have to admit that that's a big part of it. The rest is, as I said, smoothness and lack of vibration, but any tripod will be 1000% better than none. I wouldn't worry about protecting the DSLR because your camera is probably light enough that it will balance well on basically any tripod.

Given a choice between the Neweers, I'd go for the taller one: no tripod is at its best when fully extended, and the taller one will be more stable at any given height. Also, if you do decide to get a different tripod later, you can always use the old one to hold a flash or reflector or whatever.

        • I really hate spending money for a brand

What does that even mean? Why would you 'hate' paying for quality products? I understand going cheap but not the 'hating brand' thing

          • +1

@nikoris: Didn't say I hated paying for quality, I said I hated paying for the brand. Typically stronger brands will allow the company to charge more than their competitors for equivalent products.

If I see the item as quite critical e.g. tripod. I am more likely to just bite the bullet and not bother trying to save the few extra bucks.

    • I purchased this tripod for ~$110 (Seller had a $10 discount voucher + Cashback, if it tracks successfully) yesterday, also doubles as a Monopod + I'm 6'4" so I wanted the extra height.

      • Nice. The specs look impressive, the brand is well known, though not on the premium end.

  • I've always dreamed of having a 3-way head…….tripod (giggity)

    • Not sure what you wanted, 3-way head or tripod? ;-)

  • Received the Tripod 3-Way Head today. Happy with the quality and operation, especially at this price for a Manfrotto (with CR cashback under $80)!
