Pure One Classic Digital Radio $77.60 (in-Store Only)

130

Dick Smith has 20% of all digital radios, but the Pure One Classic appears to be discounted even further.

Best price elsewhere I can see is $145

Note this is the Classic I model soon to be replaced by the Classic II. Stock is limited. You can place order on website for pickup in-store.

Reviews seem good and the newer Classic II model is not much of an improvement

  • Been thinking about getting a digital radio for a while now. This is a great price for one that seems to do the job well. Placed my order on the web to pick up during the week. Thanx spockter.

I think the magicbox tower from graysonline that I posted a few weeks ago is better value… Includes iPod/iPhone dock, dab+ radio and fm radio for $69 delivered.

I received mine and very happy.

Finally good to see a decent brand dab+ radio come down in price. Had been looking to get one for ages and this looks like the one to go for. After looking at all the cheap ones and overpriced ones. Including a cheapie that I got at Aldi last year and had to return.

For those like me who don't need ipod dock and will never need that. Also good to see it can use both the rechargeable battery pack and standard batteries, although 6 c size.

  • Er, who in the world would buy a MONO digital radio? It totally defeats the purpose. FM stereo would sound better than mono digital.

    • It also got no internet connection.

    • +2

If you listen to talk radio then mono is fine - and digital mono is better than fm mono.

Also if you're a sports fan, there dedicated ABC Grandstand station, there's been a dedicated ABC Tennis station these last 2 weeks. There are other additional stations which are only available on digital.

(all of which are available on internet radio, but if you're not a big internet user, why pay for a bigger download quota just to listen to the radio?

digital mono is better than fm mono.

Err no, FM is vastly superior in quality to Digital Radio whether mono or stereo.
Most DAB+ radio stations broadcast a 48kbps stereo stream… would you encode your mp3's (or aac's) at 48kbps? Maybe if you were encoding as mono, but otherwise definitely not!

        • Okay, good point, my bad (I was more thinking in terms of reception clarity).
Anyway, if you're concerned about the sound quality to that degree, then none of these little mono radios are for you!

the scam will be over soon when dab+ is a standard feature

This one (Laser) is a lot cheaper, $38.

Just bought one and it's exactly what I need, sound is great, it's not going to fill a room but you wouldn't be using a small radio for a party anyway.

Didn't you check the above mentioned cheaper options?

      • Don't like the tower one as there's enough clocks around the place, the cleaver one is a bit ugly and plastic looking, same with the laser one.

Happy with my choice, this is a good brand and pretty decent looking.

  • Does anyone know of one that allows delayed sound - eg to match the cricket TV display?

Seem to recall hearing of one on the local VIC radio cricket commentary - from a Tassy listener?

    • +2

The Pure Classic has a feature called ReVu which allows you to buffer the audio for up to 15mins. You can then play the audio from the buffer so that it has a fixed delay,

I just tested it by running the radio 10secs behind. Seems to work fine.

      • THANKS

(I thought?? that a short additional delay [together with the existing 2 second? digital delay] up to 8s? would allow synchronization with the TV cricket).

With some LIVE TV even a 15 minute buffer wouldn't suffice :-)

I bought a DEGEN DE1126 (4G digital recorder radio) to automatically record ("tape") programs - but it isn't digital - just AM,FM & SW(?).

Sync radio & TV cricket might warrant a WP thread.

Deal expires today 30/1/2012 so still available for those who missed out and still want to get one.

This radio beats any other DAB+ in the same price bracket and under. Especially for sound quality and poor performing speakers. Which is usually the problem with these radios arounde $100 and under. From all the reviews and user feedback, I read when looking at DAB+ radios on special.
